Faerie Tales
This was more a book of Faerie Tales than one of Fairy Tales--instead of Cinderella-like maidens being rescued by princes and aided by fairy godmothers, there are the shi' of Faery who mingle with the humans for mischief and pleasure, although often the humans manage both of those quite well on their own. Most of the tales deal with Fionn the son of Uail, and his life and times. They are ...

Accessible science for any age
I have to confess I didn't pay much attention to chemistry. Once the instructor talked about electrons, protons, atoms and the nucleus I usually turned on my Walkman (the cassette kind, now antique!). It never seemed interesting because it wasn't something that related at all to real life. If I had a teacher like Sam Kean, however, that could have been different. Fast forward too many ...

beauty and the beast-the best
This book was amazing. I have always wanted to know the true story behind on of my favorite Disney movies and this stoy did not fail me or my imagination. Even though there were different characters than in the movie, it seemed less nessicary while readign this. I highly recommed this book to anyone who wants a look at the classics! :)

"The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid."
Living a sheltered and quiet life in the small, peaceful village of Fullerton, Catherine Morland, at the ripe young age of seventeen, is in want of an adventure. Since she is fond of horrid Gothic novels, the ideal adventure for Catherine would be one with sinister characters, secret mysteries, and many Gothic horrors! Catherine does receive an adventure of sorts when the she is invited to ...

Great collection, Navigable if you use the Kindle search function
This is a great collection of the Brothers Grimm's tales. The table of contents is a listing of all of the titles (no point and click) (which by the way there are over 200 tales) but just type in the title that you want into your Kindle (using the find function) and it takes you right to the story! Titles are in English and German. And the stories are wonderful. (Remember this is the real ...

Adventures of Pinocchio
The story of Pinocchio has been rewritten so often that it is nice to read the original translation. I love the ability to but the book to audio much better than TV.

Andersen's Fairy Tales
Includes a few long stories (The Shoes of Fortune; The Snow Queen) and a bunch of short stories (The Emperor's New Clothes; The Real Princess) by Hans Christian Andersen, although this is by no means all that he wrote. A more definitive collection of his work is Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Stories included are: The Emperor's New Clothes The Swineherd The Real Princess (this ...

Hey Folks, This is a enjoyable read for those of us over the age of eight; or a mature younger child. At forty-eight I enjoyed spending a lazy Sunday afternoon reading these tales in their purist form. As far as one reviewer posting that there was anti-semetic typing in one of the Arabian tales, hummm did not get that, but did read enough stereo-typing that might be offensive to any and all ...

Score: Mortenson 55, US Military 0
Greg Mortenson should inspire us all to pursue the greater good. The American public, so-called experts and our political leaders too often fall prey to over simplification and misguided labels, without taking the time to understand the nuances, the history, and the people. Painting issues, people, races, religions and countries as either good or evil lures votes and makes better media ratings, ...
Fairy Tales from the Arabian Nights

Small collection, aimed at children
This is a small collection of stories from an 1821 edition of the Galland translation of the Arabian Nights. Galland was the first European to translate the stories we now think of as the _Arabian Nights_, and as far as they go, these are excellent stories, well-told and entertaining. The problem with the Galland translation (and, therefore, with this edition) is that it was bowdlerized for ...

Decent English Fairy Tales
These stories were written in a rough tone and have an unpolished feel to them. This is not necessarily a detraction, and some tales were better than other, but it was occasionally wearying to read them in the poor grammar of colloquial speech. Hence, four stars. Also, it lacks an interactive table of contents. Tales included are; Tom Tit Tot The Three Sillies The Rose-Tree The Old Woman ...

Kakoi!
Since it was free I didn't really know what to expect but the stories are quite nice. Not all of them are light-hearted though and even with the ones with "happy endings" you still might not want to read them to kids.

Perfect Welsh Children Learn to Make Cheese on Toast!
I read Dutch Fairy Tales for Young Folks by the same author, and was so terribly unimpressed with them that I only read enough of this one to ascertain that it was similar--except this one involves Welsh children learning the Secret of Cheese on Toast instead of Dutch ones learning the Secret of Flax. If you can handle the perfectly obedient children go ahead and read it, otherwise Welsh ...

fantastic book - but the "cut" version is better
this will sound like heresy, i'm sure, but the "cut" version is better except for some of the added scenes where we see civilization collapsing during the superflu. the rest of the original material really should have been deleted. score one for the editors! that being said, the stand is one of the standards against which all other PA novels should be judged. it has a strong cast of characters. ...

Great story
The first time I've ever read this story was on the Kindle. I don't know how I missed it as I was growing up. I really love the story. As with most free children's books for the kindle, this one does not include illustrations. (I guess I don't know what I am missing since I haven't seen the illustrations in the paper-book editions??) However, I found that it didn't take away from the ...
