A Sherpa Man Finds his Spiritual and Family Roots
This book was absorbing emotionally and stimulating intellectually. It is the only book about the 1996 Mount Everest disaster written by a Sherpa, the indigenous people who work as porters and guides for commercial expeditions. I have read about five of the books written after the disaster, and wondered about the Sherpa point of view as there was surprisingly little mention of them. The other ...

TIGER OF THE SNOWS
Does one need to review this book. It speaks for its` self. One word or two. He WAS the FIRST man to rerach the summit of Everest and not Ed Hillary. No arguements please. It is a fact. Great book.

Thought-provoking and fun - loved this book!
Insightful, funny, and deeply spiritual in an unassuming way, this book made me think, and, even better, it made me smile. The verses are really imaginative observations on life, with seemingly random twists and turns that feel like those hypothetical light bulbs switching on in the mind. The illustrations are brilliant, delicate and detailed, subtly capturing the atmosphere of the verses around ...

Good read
My son, who is 8, is obsessed with reference guides and natural history. He also likes human stories behind history. He loved this book. I definitely recommend it for a child who wants to know more about Everest. Shipping was quick, which is great when you have a son who keeps saying, "When will my book be here?"

Whimsical Glory
Glory is a whimsical thing and no one knows who it will strike. It is a marvel how a poor isolated mountain tribe was made a household word-how the Sherpas became THE Sherpas. Of course they unquestionably deserve it but many others equally deserving were ignored. But that is how life works and the Sherpas are not to be begrudged their glory. They have certainly worked hard for it. The Sherpas ...

Step-Into-Reading Review
This excellent book in Series 5 combines reading skills with historical, scientific and environmental issues that can be understood easily by young children. In general, Step-Into-Reading is a good series, highly recommended to parents who want to encourage their children to read and love literature. But the content of this book and many others in Step 5 is a step above.

Sensitive and Informative
I resonated to this book. Jamling Tenzing Norgay is a son of the famous Sherpa climber Tenzing Norgay, who together with Sir Edmund Hillary became, in 1953, the first men to reach the summit of Everest. Some of you may have read Jon Krakauer's book "Into Thin Air", about the ill-fated Spring 1996 climbing season on Everest. Jamling follows in his father's footsteps and finds himself high ...

A wonderful book about a wonderful man.
What I found really refreshing about Tenzing's book was his honesty. He tells of his time in New Delhi when he would point out Mount Everest to tourists. Many guides would point to a nearer peak which looked far more impressive than Everest, but Tenzing would always indicate the correct one. He also is quite frank about wishing that he had successfully climbed the mountain with the earlier ...

Travel classic!!
I treasure my broken and browned paperback edition of this travel classic!!! Tenzing Norgay Sherpa (where did Amazon come up with 'Norkey'??) was the first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest, along with Sir Edmond Hillary, and they famously refused to ever say who reached the summit first, instead insisting that it was a collaborative effort which could not have succeeded without each ...

A unique sherpa's view on Everest expedition
This book written by a grandson of Tenzing Norgay, the most renown Sherpa, and his wife living in Sydney is very unique, as all other previously published books on Everest expeditions or anthropology of Sherpas were written by so-called "non-Sherpa" mountaineers born and grown-up outside of Himalaya region. This book tells us a fascinating "insider's" story about the development of sherpas' ...

The most in-depth accont ever of Tenzing's climb from obscurity to stardom
In this thoughtful, well researched and educational book, Ed Douglas has delved far beneath the superficial surface of Tenzing, Sherpas and Himalayan climbing. The history and lead up to the 1953 climb with Ed Hillary is both thoughtful and highly detailed but despite the incredible academic depth and factual information, this book is highly readable and appealing to anyone who seeks knowledge of ...

Deftly written and superbly illustrated
Deftly written and superbly illustrated by Tenzing Norbu Lama, Himalaya is a truly outstanding children's picture book that draws its story from the Oscar-nominated movie of the same name, and is about the Dolpo people who live in the Himalayan mountains and make grueling annual treks to the valleys of Nepal to trade salt for grain. An untimely death, a conflict over clan leadership, and a young ...

very disappointed
Could not believe I had just paid over 20 dollars for what amounted to a "childrens book" with only 25 pages of text. Your book descriptions should contain more info (age group, page count, intended audience, etc). I am very, very disappointed with you and have expressed my satisfaction with my co-workers.
