The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook50 reviews
Michael C. Volkin

Booklocker.com, 2004

Incredible
This book has helped me in so many ways. I knew nothing about the military before I left for boot camp. Now, I feel I am completely ready. The book has an easy to understand fitness routine and told me what to expect mentally from a drill sergeant, even the other recruits. This book even contains a packing list so I know exactly what to pack for boot camp. Before I was scared to leave for ...

The New Best Recipe: All-New Edition205 reviews
Cook's Illustrated Magazine

America?s Test Kitchen, 2004

Perfect Creations Everytime......Almost Foolproof!!
First I will start by saying that I have never followed Cooks Illustrated or understood the belabored recipe-testing involved for this book. I have passed it up many times because the recipes looked too basic, and not gourmet or innovative. Boy, was I wrong! I was lucky to find a copy of this little gem at a discount store at third off the cover price, and it was worth every cent! The detailed ...

Sew Everything Workshop47 reviews
Diana Rupp

Workman Publishing Company, 2007

Must Buy for 1st Time Sewers
I purchased this book a few months back as I knew I wanted to learn how to sew but I had never even touched a machine. Since reading the book I've also begun taking a sewing class at my local vis arts center. If it wasn't for this book, I'd be completely lost! I've just bought my first sewing machine too. I shopped around for a long time and knew exactly what questions to ask and what I wanted to ...

City of Thieves (Thorndike Press Large Print Basic Series)54 reviews
David Benioff

Thorndike Press, 2008

I loved this book!
I fell in love with all of the characters and lived through their trials right along with them. I felt their cold, hunger, fear and despair but also their love for life and optimism. This is a book I could imagine reading again even though my pile of unread books is daunting. This one is a keeper.

The Encyclopedia of Country Living120 reviews
Carla Emery

Sasquatch Books, 2008

A must have
I read the negative reviews for this book before I purchased it. Nevertheless, I still ordered it. While the book is kinda like a phonebook type of product, the information in it is priceless. It covers so many topics. I strongly recommend it.

Your Basic Nightmare (Sweet Valley High Senior Year, 6)56 reviews
Francine Pascal

Sweet Valley, 1999

Good but just a comment...
This is one of the best books of the series. I love the Conner-Liz thing. However... I just wanted to point out, I think in this book something like Maria and Liz go into the Riot and laugh as Tia pull them into the crowd. It's something like "Liz laughed then coughed at the second hand smoke." Smoking's been outlawed in California bars for a while. Just a comment.

Betty Crocker's Cooky Book104 reviews
Betty Crocker Editors, Eric Mulvany

Betty Crocker, 2002

BC Cookie Review
Betty Crocker's Cooky Book is one of my favorite books. I purchased my original copy in 1967 and have used it for YEARS. All the receipes bring back memories of Christmas holiday baking with all the "children" who were a part of our lives for 40 years. Thank you for letting me find another copy of this book.

Back to Basics for the Republican Party59 reviews
Michael Zak

Michael Zak, 2000

A must read for all conservatives
As the chairman of the fastest growing and most active Young Republican group in my tri-state area I need books like this to more quicky educate conservatives. Whether candidate, supporter, or voter it is pertinent to understand the core values of Republicanism as well as our rich history. Back to Basics for the Republican Party is a terrific book about our values and history. It is in a ...

The MouseDriver Chronicles101 reviews
John Lusk, Kyle Harrison

Basic Books, 2002

Greg Fisher
The Mousedriver Chronicles is the story of 2 Wharton MBA's who take a business plan developed on their entrepreneurship course at Wharton and decide to make a go of it. In 1999 they turn away high paying jobs at investment banks and over funded dot.com startups to go it alone. Their idea: to make and sell a computer mouse that looks like the head of a golf driver. They fund the venture ...

Back to Basics68 reviews
Robert Dolezal

Readers Digest, 1981

The Skills Your Grandparents Had, But You Probably Don't
Until I checked this book out of the library, I had rarely given a thought to getting "back to basics," that is learning how to be more self-sufficient. After I read the book, I soon bought it, because it opened my eyes to the many ways that I am almost entirely dependent upon others for my basic needs. "Back to Basics" is a helpful guide for those who want to get away from it all and live ...

Negative, The (Basic Photo S)35 reviews
Ansel Adams

Morgan & Morgan, NY

An excellent technical reference
Concisely written in Adams' own scholarly style, "The Negative" is a valuable resource for photographers learning the foundation of technically correct (as opposed to generally good) base exposure in a variety of scenes, both pedestrian and those that are more conflicting. One must, however, consider that more than 4 decades have passed since the techniques were founded and the technology ...

Better Basics for the Home: Simple Solutions for Less Toxic Living38 reviews
Annie Berthold-Bond

Rodale Press, 2005

Terrific better Basics
This book is filled with natural and non-toxic cleaning products, personal care products and more. I have made a number of cleaning potions from Better Basics and am loving the way my house smells when I clean it! Meaning...instead of the old days using harsh chemicals, my home smells like almost nothing--just clean! I was going to post a review for Annie Bond's Home Enlightenment: Practical, ...

Basic Writings of Nietzsche34 reviews
Friedrich Nietzsche

Modern Library, 1977

Kaufmann Translations with all Footnotes
The Birth of Tragedy-75 Aphorism-Beyond Good and Evil-The Genealogy of Morals (3 Essays)-The Case of Wagner-Interpretations/commentaries A great collection, though a strange chronological leap from BOT to BGE. Right for the price and a great review of the later published books of FN. All of Kaufmann's footnotes are maintained. You'll at least want to have had read The Gay Science before coming ...

Dead in Their Tracks: Crossing America's Desert Borderlands36 reviews
John Annerino

Basic Books, 1999

Walk the Line in this New World
-"Photojournalist John Annerino plunges into a world few Americans ever consider, much less confront: a pitiless trek through the southwestern Arizona Desert that can deliver a man to steady work - or to a whimpering death," Laura Brooks, The Arizona Daily Star. -"Anyone interested in this slaughter should run, not walk, to John Annerino's Dead in Their Tracks," Charles Bowden, author of Down ...

A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar28 reviews
Seiichi Makino, Michio Tsutsui

Japan Publications Trading Co, 1991

Comprehensive and Comprehensible
There is a bit of a myth about Japanese grammar--that it is too complicated, too alien for the non-native speaker to ever really master. This is a myth that many Japanese perpetuate themselves, seen in unflattering characterizations of non-native speakers, or in the (unhelpful) praise lavished upon anyone who can speak Japanese to any degree, no matter how ungrammatical it may be. This is a ...

Programming Microsoft Visual Basic .NET Version 2003 (Pro Developer)28 reviews
Francesco Balena

Microsoft Press, 2004

Wonderful learning tool and reference
This was the first .NET book I purchased, and in many ways if I hadn't bought any others it would have been sufficient. It has thorough coverage of the .NET environment, with lucid code examples in VB.NET. I found the chapters on ADO.NET and the framework internals to be most useful to my job as an ASP.NET developer, but the coverage is deep enough that a person with very little programming ...
