The Best WW2 Book I've Ever Read
Out of all the World War Two books that I've read, this one is by far the greatest of them all. Gerald Astor takes you into the cockpit of a P-51 Mustang, the pilot's seat of a B-17 and the cold prison camps of Nazi Germany. I could not put this book down. This is a book written from the experiences of the men who were actually there. The men of the 8th Air Force are indeed heroes, and this ...

Classic Marvel!!
Marvel Civil War collection is an instant classic for all ages to enjoy. My suggestion is that if you get Civil War Frontline Vol 2 you should get Vol 1 at the same time because the story is SO good that you will have wished you ordered both if you didn't. While I'm at it, get the whole Marvel Civil War series. It's classic stuff and it's great for all ages. JC

5 Star Sniper Masterpiece Novel
I do not give 5 star ratings to many books but this novel set in the ruins of Stalingrad definitely deserves the max rating. It is Red supersniper against Nazi supersniper in a battle that can only end one way. Vasiley Zaitsev is running a local sniper school right in Stalingrad during the height of the struggle for control of this non-strategic value city that Stalin and Hitler chose to wrestle ...

Good book
I really liked this book. It was written in a style that made me feel like I was sitting and talking in person to Mr. Guarnere and Mr. Heffron. Their exact words and dialect was printed. It did not read like a book written by some armchair soldier or historian. It reminded me of my talks with my uncle, another WWII veteran.

Nasty Centaurs Try to Overflow USA's Plains.
I definitely enjoy sci-fi books, alt-his books, soldiers' war memories books and historical battles books. Well believe it or not John Ringo's "Gust Front" is a tasty combination of all these genres and writing styles, as the previous volume in the series! I've already read some books of what is usually known as "military sci-fi" and with the exception of Joe Haldeman's "Forever Peace" the ...

The Power of Truth
Of the three books written about the so-called battle of Roberts Ridge, this one has the greatest sensitivity. It's personal! Ranger Capt. Nate Self got caught between the miscalculations of the Navy SEALS, and a fundamental flaw in senior command leadership. Sent on a mission to rescue the SEALS from a snowy 10,000-foot Afghanistan battleground, he lacked basic mission information. He was the ...

After a brief four-page summary of the 8th AF's ...

The finest fighter pilot narrative of World War Two
What a pleasure to have a new edition of this marvelously evocative book available! This is the first time that it has been presented in its entirety and the additions only increase the book's value as a window into the world of the combat aviator. The book was originally written shortly after the war and as a result there is an immediacy about it that is, at times, electrifying. It was an ...

A Great Work
I am a soldier with the US Army who has been deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom twice and Operation Enduring Freedom once. And yes I have lost some close friends to these wars. I must say this is one of my favorite books on war that I have read next to the Red Badge of Courage. Yes soldiers are opened minded, I do know that this book focuses on the darker side of War and is considered an ...

Under Himmler's Command addresses two areas of World War II hitherto neglected - Heinrich Himmler as a military commander, and the German staff officer corps during the last months of the war on the Eastern Front. The author, Hans-Georg Eismann, was the Operations Officer for Army Group Vistula, a German formation created in late January 1945 to which Heinrich Himmler was appointed as commander. Eismann's memoir of this period has remained ...
Good Girls, Good Food, Good Fun: The Story of USO Hostesses during World War II (Gender and American Culture)
Meghan K. Winchell
The University of North Carolina Press
, 2008
Throughout World War II, when Saturday nights came around, servicemen and hostesses happily forgot the war for a little while as they danced together in USO clubs, which served as havens of stability in a time of social, moral, and geographic upheaval. Meghan Winchell demonstrates that in addition to boosting soldier morale, the USO acted as an architect of the gender roles and sexual codes that shaped the "greatest generation." Combining ...

The author has written another exciting book illustrated with wonderful photos and exceptional color profiles. This is the gripping true story of one of the first German fighter units of WWI, and one of the greatest. It was lead by one of the great aces of all time, Oswald Boelcke, who was an exceptional teacher of fighter pilots as well as a great example. The Red Baron got his start in this ...
