The only book you'll need for Graphic Design!
When a graphic designer organizes information into a visual communication he/she must organize the information so that the audience can easily navigate throughout the communication. Visual hierarcies are established and grids are created as an aid to the communication. READ THIS FIRST!

A Great Book on the Graphics Arts
This book is a hodge-podge of graphic arts and typography. It has little bit of everything: modern and historical examples of the uses of typefaces in advertising, business and the graphic arts. It is published by the International Typeface Corporation and is printed on a very dense glossy paper by Nai Nippon Printing Co. Japan. The quality of the printing is suberb; the colors and details are ...

A fabulous resource for black and white ornaments
This book contains hundreds of black and white images, borders, ornaments, rules, corners and other graphics. The pages are printed on both sides, it is necessary to make a xerox copy of a page before attempting to scan, or ghost-through will occur. The copyright notice is somewhat confusing, it appears to be a boiler-plate for use in books containing alphabets and states that use is free ...

The orality/literacy debate and McLuhan's media theory
This book expands on the views of McLuhan's teacher Harold Innis, who distingusihed oral and written cultures. The book argues that oral cultures are synaesthetic and work with synthetic logic, while cultures of writing push the mind toward singulation of senses, logic and 'perspective'. McLuhan 'glosses' through a wide range of scattered historical pieces of information to show how oral, ...

One of the Best Type Books
If you are a graphic designer and wake up one day thinking:"Well, I feel like spending $45 bucks today", you should seriously consider this. Edited by Roger Walton, this beautiful publication comes to rescue us from the sameness and the boring "commercial type book" type of thing. Beautifuly designed by Gabriella Le Grazie, Stefan Kraus and Iain Cadby, there's nothing else to do, but to put ...

Inspiration!
This book is great inspiration for any graphic designer. If I'm struggling for an idea, this is my muse. The art found in this book is primarily from page design (magazines, books) with very little web design. This is not a negative comment, just don't expect to see much web design. The medium is irrelevant; it's just great design.

Fascinating, timely and practical too
Another superb book by Götz. Although the title is a tad dry and does not suggest that the book will appeal to the same wide audience as Type for the Internet, in fact `Grids' is just as fascinating and timely. Gotz describes how websites (and other browser-read creations) should be laid out for maximum effectiveness. Her analysis is practical and how-to, leading from the apparently obvious ...

The Macintosh Font Book
This book fills in all the blanks for those of us without extensive Mac training. It covers so many questions about font loading, management and vocabulary. I have so many times wondered how to get this sort of information without working side by side, day in and out with an expert. Now I know.

Not Really Out of Print--There is an Updated Version
You can find the 'grandson' of this book available under a new name: Munster: Before and After. What follows is my review of the updated version. However, I have read both and they are quite similar. Both are outstanding. The target was Munster, an ancient walled city on the edge of Germany that up until that day had seen comparatively little damage from Allied bombs. But Munster was also a ...

One of the best
I have been a graphic designer for over 20 years. I teach typography at the university level. I learned typography the old-fashioned way: by specifying, setting, and manipulating it by hand. From that background I can confidently state that THE best way to truly understand how type works is through understanding the forms of letters, words, and groups of words. Students trying to understand ...
