Hey...it's a college book....
This was a good college book. I purchased it because it was required for my psychology class, but it was helpful on the papers we were assigned.

Weiten's Work of Fiction
This text was required reading for my psychology degree and quite frankly had the writer's personal opinions stamped all over the end of chapter conclusions. So much so, that often the conclusions would totally contradict the supporting research quoted within the chapter itself. Sometimes one chapter had contradictory conclusions to another, and so on. I guess there were many contributing writers ...

Hidden Gem
I can't believe I was only introduced to this in a graduate level class, under the humble (and quite vague) disguise of "modern enterprise systems". That said, this book has tremendous applications beyond IE courses. Astonishing and empowering...and I hope it really catches on for those who can handle a transformation free of charge courtesy of Wheeler....I guess IE's have a strong advantage ...

Great value...
Ok, not everyone needs to (or wants to) know calculus of variations. But if you are among the ones who, this is a great book to get started with (assuming you are in grad school and have a decent handle on calculus and some basis in dealing with differential equations). The text is clear and concise, and the financial investment is minimal. A good buy!

Very comprehensive
This book enlists many different authors, who all have an amazing point of view on the built environment. From gated communities to Disneyland, every chapter expresses concerns of fast-changing developed environments. Our cities are quickly becoming cold, enclosed enclaves. This book helped me realize how our society has snubbed the utilizaton of public space. This is definitely a book for ...

Human Variation and Genetics
Molnar's book is a wonderful introduction to human genetics, variation, and racial classification (that is, race is an illusion), just as the title suggests. Parts of the book are highly involved and technical, giving both the amateur and the professional room for learning. The book would be great for undergrads and graduate students.

Human Variation
This book is a good guide to the study of human variation. Based on the fact that all humans are genetically the same, it helps begin the study of how humans vary according to environmental influences, such as sunlight, temperature, food available, and other influences in these areas. It is a good starter book for the study of the human race.

Very deep and detailed
I have had this gem of a book for ten years, and I'm still enjoying it. Actually, it turns out that the text itself was written some time ago, but don't let you be put off by that - this book is very scholarly and you really will be enlightened by it. Now, where do you begin? Usually at University, I guess, this subject is treated in a way that makes most folks think that just about all "Calculus ...

a must-have for anyone doing language variation research
I never took a sociolinguistics class and was recommended to use GoldVarb to analyze some free speech data for an acquisition study. I read this book cover to cover and learned everything I need to successfully carry out a variation study -- from data collection to result interpretation. Learning a statistical software all by my own can be very scary. Thanks to this book so I can accomplish my ...

A novel to savor, not to fear
I don't so much want to write a review of this novel as I want to encourage you to read it. The words "dense" and "erudite," often used to describe The Gold Bug Variations, surely scare off a fair share of potential readers. Don't be intimidated. Buy the book and give it a chance. Yes, you'll have to slow your reading pace and think while you turn the pages, but you'll rarely have a more ...
