The musical splendour of St Petersburg
St Petersburg is famous for the magnificance of its architecture and this CD explore that splendour in music terms. Peter the Great drove Russia into the modern world with his modernisation drive, and without this Russia may have remained in the middle ages and certainly no match against the onslaught of tyrants such as Napoleon and Hitler. With his modernisation drive Peter the Great brought ...

Mystery of the East: Music from Russian Churches and Monasteries
An excellent recording-with exception of the engineering. Having attended a concert of choral music from the Ukraine, I find this recording faithfully follows all the whisper quiet to needing earplugs in your ears volume. The music is performed admirably, and the diction is good - I would be able to understand the words if I understood Russian. In the Russian tradition, the pieces are all ...

Glorious
I have listened to a great deal of Orthodox music and I think this is by far one of the most beautiful collections I have ever heard. Actually, it is one of the most georgeous pieces of music of any kind I have heard.

Basso Profondo from Old Russia
An incredible disc - magnificently recorded - including mainly sacred music from mesmerizing chant to soaring anthem but also a taste of patriotic and popular tunes. The amazing impact of the Russian "Oktavists" has to be heard to be believed. The sound of performers, singing an octave below the normal bass range with clarity and beautiful resonance, has been compared to the 16 foot pedal ...

Beautiful, peaceful, and holy!
This CD truly surprised me....not knowing what to expect from the Slavonic Liturgy, and a big fan of sacred chant, I found myself deeply and profoundly moved! Chants of the Slavonic Liturgy contain some of the most beautiful and serene religious chant I have ever heard!!! I highly recommend this cd without any doubt or reservation!

Wonderful and Relaxing.
Truly one of the best collections of relaxing classical music. A must have for couples when the kids are gone, or just some quiet time alone. Soothing to the mind, body and soul.

Easter Choral music: Behold the Bridegroom is magnificent
Listening to classical radio has once more paid unexpected dividends; yet again I discover a treasure that would have escaped my notice and I would never have otherwise heard. This disc is a collection of Easter music performed by the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir under the direction of Nikolai Korniev. It is beautifully recorded in the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul in St. Petersburg, ...

Inner beauty
The sense of beauty emerge within us as these chorals fill the space of our head and heart. A music written by real masters and interpreted by voices rarely heard. Beautiful.

Moving, intense music.
I've had this album for a little over a year now and still listen to it regularly. It's a favorite in my car, especially in the early morning while driving my kids to school. The combination of the sunrise and the moving vocals combine to leave me feeling full of life, ready to move on with my day. The chorus is truly incredible, and with a decent sound system the feeling of being in the midst ...

The best of russian folk music
Really a classic, a must-have. Some people say that russian music is gloomy, but for me it's more likely to be spiritual or even a joyous proclamation of the glory of God through Nature. This cd contains, along with some not-so-familiar songs, the most famous folk songs, as Black Eyes (Otchii Chorniye), the green grass (Kalinka), The Volga Boat's Men Song, Stenka Razyn, etc.

They weren't kidding
This recording embodies much of what is best about Russian classical/liturgical music. The voices are extremely pleasant to listen to, the harmonies are rich, the absense of instruments scarely noticeable, the compositions themselves comforting and embracing. This has become my standard 'gift that everyone should receive'!

Inspiring!!
I've listened to Russian choral music (live and recorded) since i was a child, and this one brings to mind the Branko Krsmanovich and Russian State Symphony Capella performances that still bring tears to my eyes. Fills the heart! Highly recommended!

So many decades wasted in clandestine spirituality
This is a selection of 18th-20th century liturgical compositions by various Russian composers. It reflects the captured glory of the Saint Petersburg imperial court, and a few decades after its fall in 1917, under and after the musical revolution brought about by the very productive Dimitri Bortnianski. His "Gloria", given on this CD, is unique in its dirge interlaced to glorification, even joy ...

Spiritual Perfection
What a jewel in my collection. The music, a mixture of Russian Orthodox and Western Late Baroque, brings both worlds close to spiritual perfection. All four CDs thus far released are outstanding and I can't wait for the 5th.
