A beautiful variety
This has got 2 be 1 of my fav. cd's of all time. The variety & arrangment seems 2 be very well planned. While all of the songs are very beautiful & breathtaking, my 2 favs are the Requiem for My Friend by Preisner & the Dies Irae immediately following it. If you ever run across the Preisner Requiem I would highly recommend that you buy it b/c it is soooo expressive & emotional.

This is actually a very fine recording
I am sorry, but I have not yet heard this recording, as much as I would like to. I just think that, in view of the very positive "Editorial Review" by a professional reviewer paid by Amazon, it is unfair that the Spanish reviewer gives this recording only two stars. Most of us cannot read the Spanish, though maybe we can guess what some of the words mean. There are not that many recordings of ...

A Great Musical Discovery!
The Maitines para Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, by Ignacio de Jerusalém, receives on this recording its first performance since two hundred years ago. Music lovers must be very thankful to Chanticleer for their interest in reviving works from the Mexican Baroque. Matins (a religious service that was performed in the Roman Catholic Church in the early hours of the morning)were a vehicle for ...

A treasury
As you can tell from the samples, the music here is amazing and covers a wide territory. It is less obvious that much of this is available on other CDs. I am confident, for example, that "We Shall Walk Through the Valley In Peace" is the same track that you will find on their phenomenal and highly recommended gospel collection, _Where the Sun Shall Never Go Down_, and I see a number of ...

Musical splendor of Mexico in the 18th century
Maybe the musical sophistication achieved in Mexico during the XVIII century is not well known. This recording will go a long way toward exposing the greatness of Mexican composers of that time. This recording was recommended to me by a PhD musicologist as an example of the excellent polyphony written by Mexican authors. Some pieces are a capella and of an older, Renaissance style; others with a ...
