Sombre, elegant and thoughtful
I first found myself in complete agreement with the previous reviewer's balanced and intelligent assessment but subsequent listenings to this interesting and subtle disc have left me unsure. It is certainly not as light or playful as her earlier Philips versions and the emphasis in both concertos here is often more upon sombre introspection, yet Uchida has something profound and even slightly ...

This recording is simply sublime!
This is simply the best interpretation of Mozart's Piano Concertos I've ever heard! I own three different sets and in my humble opinion this is the Holy Grail as far as recordings of Mozart Piano Concertos. Uchida's fingers (touch on the keys) work and finesse the pieces played into a musical tour de force. She truly does bring these pieces of music to life. I have listened to every piece ...

Absolutely perfect
This is a wonderful collection of some of the most beautiful, relaxing classical music composed by the greatest artists of our history. My personal favorites, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Gabriel Faure, are well represented here. The selections are made based on their ability to relax, and transport you to another place. They certainly succeed. In these troubled and stressful times, we need ...

Filled With Concentration, Imagination And Clarity!
Mitsuiko Uchida continues to amaze with her unique ingenuity, creativity and musical imagination. Her depth of understanding in Beethoven's E major sonata, Op. 109 stands true, proven by her incredible accuracy revealing that Beethoven has never expressed himself more directly and intimately. She magnificently blends the lyrical aspects and ingenuity of the sonata's first movement allowing it to ...

Excellent Mozart playing
Opinion is divided here about this set, and I'd like to weigh in heavily on the favourable side. I love Uchida's Mozart sonatas. She is to me, with the possible exception of Murray Perahia, the greatest Mozart pianist of our age. Some people have found Uchida's playing lacking in emotion, but this is music from the Classical era, between the contrapuntal complexities of the Baroque and the ...

One of the best!
Although I have most of the pieces in this collection in performances by other artists such as Horowitz, Richter, Pollini, and Brendel, I find myself listening to Uchida more than any of the others. Her interpretation suits my liking for precision, tempo, and chiaroscuro of mood and dynamics. I come to trust her more and more. I also recommend her Mozart collection.

highly recommended
I started listening to this when I had to cram for an exam the other day. I couldn't stop listening to it, and when it came time for the test, I wish my professor could have let me listen to it while I was taking the test! All the pieces are upbeat, while at the same time not distracting.

Smart Music
The creative process is a mysterious phenomenon. Artists, musicians and writers will tell you an array of different sources of inspiration from physical exercise, viewing a beautiful landscape to falling in love. We all have different sources of inspiration, but what ever it may be, it has the capacity to put our creative energies in motion. Years ago, I remember while studying at school, ...

Pure
This album has it all, believe it or not. There are loads of cheesy #1 blah blah albums that are horridly popular. Sure, there are many well-known pieces on this, such as Alla Turca, the Adagio Sostenuto of the Moonlight, Fur Elise and the Minute Waltz. But almost everything else is relatively unheard of outside of the closely knit piano community. That said, these CD's opened my eyes to some of ...

ABSTRACT IMPRESSIONIST
Debussy attached no picturesque captions to his etudes. Each of the 12 has only a functional description from him - thirds, octaves, repeated notes and so forth. Even the phrases he attached to his preludes (at the end of each piece, be it remembered, not as titles) don't seem to me to define the pieces (except for the one called `alternate thirds'). Debussy's piano music always sounds to me to ...

A Matter of Taste
I entirely agree with the previous reviewer. I can't talk about this music technically. What I do like about the dodecaphonic music of Schoenberg (and Berg and Webern) is, unlike music written strictly in keys, the feeling of gliding with it across variations of a landscape and touching down at times to take another stride. This piece was my accidental introduction to serial music and I have ...

Music that Motivates
Phillips Classics has spawned a brilliant concept for classical music compilations. The first compilation to enter the market place was "Mozart for Your Mind", a collection of scientifically proven sonatas and overtures that actually boost the listeners IQ. In this compilation, they have presented Mozart's more buoyant and snappy tunes to quicken the pulse, motivate the spirit and inspire the ...

Superior Performances. Mozart is Food for the Brain.
What differentiates this collection from other "Mozart for young children" CD's is that it is played by classical music virtuosos. Some of the biggest names are included, and the performances are outstanding. Playing quality music like this on a daily basis in the background or in the car will help your child's development in many areas. Mozart is food for the brain. I also highly recommend any ...

Yummy, some delicious moments
As the saying goes, "Mozart is Music" and Uchida is Mozart! On this recording, you have two of the most popular Mozart piano concertos in modern performance(that is, played on a very big grand piano--not a fortepiano as they would've been in Mozart's day). Uchida is crisp and technically correct, though perhaps, as some other reviewers have noted, lacking the passion of other artists' recordings. ...

Doubles as a traveling and party cd
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart knew how to bring life to a party. With his music, we can note how witty and exuberant he was. The selections here contain fast, allegro movements that are sure to speed your way to work and make you feel good about it. It is also a perfect party cd. The Sinfonia concertante is highly recommendable, so is the Impresario Overture and the Concerto for 2 Pianos. The ...

THE BEST!
I don't believe there is a 'BEST' in anything. It's all in the eye of the beholder, or in this case the listener. But I almost have to make an exception. Because this is the 'BEST' and the most listenable Hammerklavier ever. I have heard her perfom it live twice. Uchida has a way of making 'old' music sound new, contemporary. I just heard her Bartok 3rd with Boulez and Chicago. Like ...
