Superb
Bernstein's usual wonderful interpretations of 5 pieces. This is probably the best performance of Barber's Adagio you can find and I have heard them all. One other note is Williams' Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis... it is spellbinding. This cd is definately worth the price if you are into slower strings.

Nashville Chamber Orchestra recording
This CD blew me away. The uniquely home-grown sounding Americana themes are not hackneyed but fresh and even exhilarating. I had the privilege of first hearing David Schnaufer and Stephen Seifert perform "Blackberry Winter" live and knew I was going to have a favorite CD in my listening collection as soon as I could find the recording!

Bicentennial Military Music
The music from these three US Military Bands was originally released in 1977 as single Long Playing Records to celebrate the Nation's Bicentennial Celebration. It is missing the US ARMY BAND (which I regret) but otherwise the music is GREAT and the Bands are FIRST CLASS as you might expect. Except for the different services renderings of THE NATIONAL ANTHEM, no marches are duplicated. If you ...

Outstanding Barber
I'm starting to come around to Hilary Hahn as a player. When I first heard her, I was put off by certain aspects of her playing, but now I've finally come to appreciate what she brings to the table. Her tone isn't as full as say Joshua Bell, Gil Shaham, Viktoria Mullova, or Anne Sophie Mutter, but her overall drive and determination put her in the same ring as these players and may very well ...

Wow!
I'm a long-time listener of all things rock-'n-roll, from Classic rock, to Alternative, and even a little Metal. I first heard this CD while having dinner at a friends house a long time ago, and I loved it. I've always been enchanted with choir music, so I bought this CD. Well, after years of listening to it to help me to unwind in the evening, I somehow misplaced it. So I came to Amazon to ...

What an amazing sound.
I heard a track from this CD on the radio and knew I had to hear more of this wonderful group so I purchased the CD "All Angels". I have not been disappointed, each track is uplifting and exciting, beautiful and pure. I just love this CD and have since purchased another CD by 'All Angel' as well.

Just what you need to unwind and dump the stress
I kept hearing Clair de lune in my head today at work while the rain poured down and realized I was in a mood for most of these songs on here. I'm not a huge classical music fan in that I pretty much love all genres of music-especially movie soundtracks (this wasn't on the Twilight one unfortunately but love the Bellas song)...but my classical is limited...but on those days where Led Zep or Snow ...

Exquisite collection & performances, unbelievable value!!!
"Over 2 l/2 hours of the world's most beautiful music." These words on the cover are very close to true. What an incredible value this collection is!! So many of these compilations of this sort are cheaply produced, and those "greatest hits" collections are one trite piece after another -- after a while one runs screaming to the stereo to shut it off. However, this collection is top-notch, ...

Beautiful interpretations
I agree with a previous reviewer on the minor problem of variations in volume. Beyond that, I find every piece beautiful. This interpretation of Barber's Adagio is the most passionate I have ever heard. I also find the Faure selection very touching. I love the vocals. I recommend this set to anyone, if for no other reason than the Barber piece.

A Winning Combo of Barber Concerti
For those who want to one-stop-shop for Barber's three solo concerti, it doesn't get much better than this disc. Conductor Leonard Slatkin has a firm sense of the overall pulse in Barber's music; he rivals Marin Alsop in not allowing drama to overshadow lyricism. With Slatkin we take time to smell the flowers but know we're not going to be abandoned in the meadow to find our own way home, as ...

Excellent selections in demonstration sound
This is the best one-disc survey of music for organ and large orchestra I've found. Barber's Toccata uses the full resources of the modern orchestra in a one-movement concerto (in all but name). It's nice to have a new recording of this, a performance in the composer's home-town, no less. Poulenc's orchestra is limited to strings and timpani, and here it's a revelation to discover details in ...

THis CD is worth 10 times its weight in gold. Just get it, get it now, before you have to hear a minute more bad music. It'll play in your head for the rest of your life. What a great investment in your mind. Have you bought it yet?

Contains some great marches that are seldom heard. The only drawback is that it contains the "Stars and Stripes Forever" which is undoubtedly the most overly-recorded piece of music there is.

What I've been looking for!
I have loved this piece of music for ages and one day heard that the Trinity Choir did it...I wanted to collect all the different Arrangements but they wud have to been bought in big collections and sets of sonatas/etc... So this CD is perfect...it combines the best settings of this wonderful piece together on one CD...quality is flawless and its a major contribution to my classical repetoire...

The title says it all.
I bought this CD set for my fiance who requested a "greatest hits" of classical music. He was able to recognize 90% of the pieces, and has listened to the CDs several times in the past month. I am a great fan of classical music, so I was able to recognize that many of the pieces were not performed by top-rate musicians or orchestras, but my fiance didn't notice. He simply wanted an ...

I have had this disc for years, and I'm more impressed with it as the years roll by. I bought it for Barber's "Knoxville, Summer of 1915" which is a glorious piece of music caught here in a luminous performance. I didn't initially warm up to the Harbison songs, but they have grown on me over the years to the point that I listen to them far more often than the Barber now. I think it just took me a ...

Superb performances overall
Back in the days Naxos achieved undeserved commercial success through mediocre recordings of the standard repertoire at a price which wasn't much lower than reissues of superb performances from other record companies. Currently, however, Naxos is one of the most interesting record companies in existence due to their series featuring somewhat less familiar music in excellent performances. Their ...
