Superb historical achievement!
Emil Gilels temperament has always been at least to my mind extremely cold and even analytical. His powerful phrasing is first rate, who can deny it? . However, he recorded for the posterity two emblematic works; this album and Brahms Piano Quartet Op. 25 with Amadeus Quartet(see my review). Gilels was at top form that historical evening with these Grieg pieces. This miniaurist composer ...

Soothing sounds for unborn baby
This product is wonderful and i would recommend it to anybody who is expecting a baby. It can be used also later on when the baby is born of course so it is a never-ending beautiful piece of music.

Beautiful piano music!
This is simply an exquisite collection of beautiful piano pieces. I am very satisfied with this purchase. I can read while listening to this music-call it background music...maybe, but even when you're doing something else-the music is there...it does not intrude, but it doesn't get lost either. I am having a hard time explaining this. I wanted music to relax and enjoy. I got just that with this ...

Inspiring!
You simply cannot go wrong with this wonderful collection from a disciplined and masterfully-led chorus. If you want to hear Christmas choral standards in all their glory, no disappointment here - beautiful men's chorus version (original) of Beibl's Ave Maria, and the treble voices also get play in the Ceremony of Carols.

Great
True, Haitink is not a "ZIP! ZING! POW! conductor" like David A. FLetcher mentioned in his review (I thought it was funny put, so I wanted to quote it), but he sure knows how to let the music do the speaking. These are not "impressionistic" readings and I'm glad they're not, although the orchestra sounds warm and round, a little "cosy" if you like, but that's fine, I love the sound. The ...

The finest brass ensembles all on 1 album
I got this CD quite a while ago, and I still listen to it almost daily. Best at night in a candlelit room while it's raining sipping fine wine and reminising of the Renaissance festival! (wierd, I know. But that's just me) If you have an interest in this time period, you won't regret buying this CD.

Outstanding Performance Disappointing CD
Imagine my surprise when I received this CD, and after removing the shrink wrap discovered that 9 of the 10 tracks or 2 of the 3 works on this CD were re-issues. The Piano Concerto in A minor Op 16 is a reissue from 2002 and the 6 Lyric Pieces were originally issued on a wonderful disc in 2001. Until I looked at the notes inside the jewel case I thought these were new performances. Shame on ...

Well worth the money. Wonderful! Wonderful!
I am not a classical music expert but I am an expert when it comes to a great product. I have listened to the works of rubenstein and Horowitz, but nothing is comparable to this great collection of polands favorite son. The nocturnes are dreamy and romantic. The other pieces though not as mesmerizing have plenty of depth and feeling. This is a collection that you will listen to over and over ...

Superior recordings and performances
The Penguin Guide to CDs and DVDs has Thibaudet's sets of the complete Debussy solo piano music at the top of the digital recordings, and this is certainly high quality. We have several recordings of the Preludes and some other works, but there is nothing to come close to Thibaudet for great performances and superior recording quality. The liner notes are very helpful, and in the first set ...

A Debussy Disc That Enters the Top Echelon
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is a French pianist known to me only from a previous disc of Bartók violin/piano pieces, in which he more than ably partnered the gifted French violinist Laurent Korcia Bartók: Works for Violin. Admittedly I was paying more attention to the violinist on that recording -- it also contains a magnificent rendering of Bartók's solo violin sonata -- but I was aware that Bavouzet ...

I've been disappointed by lots of music advertised as relaxation music, but this Piano for Relaxtion CD is the real deal! Listening to this CD is like having a peaceful, meaningful talk with an old friend whom you love and with whom you feel very familiar. Unique and unforgettable
All of this music has been recorded many times over by musicians ranging from the dire to the sublime. For any Chopin recording to really stand out from the pack nowadays, it has to have some really special qualities. This is one of those recordings, and as someone who has never heard any other Moravec, it has made me eager to explore him further. The B-flat minor Sonata of Chopin is a ...

At the Top of My Christmas Playing List!
This is just an outstanding collection of choral, Christian selections. The majority are composed by Rutter, who it turns out was led into this field for which he is so well known and loved when in school, he was motivated by a fellow student who was composing a Christimas carol to do the same. Thanks be to God for that motivation! Rutter's work simply in this humble reviewer has no other ...

Explore the romance and poetry of Chopin
This is an ideal CD if you are looking for some "nice piano music" or want to explore the music of Fryderyk Chopin [1810-1849]. Chopin was born in Poland but lived most of his life in Paris among the glamorous, wealthy, aristocratic and artistic. Stories of his lavish life, beautiful female students and love affairs are legendary. Having few musical influences and minimal formal training, he ...

Marvellous cd, enchanting music
Our whole family loves this cd. I am continually charmed and refreshed by the subtlety, taste and musicianship that has gone into these arrangements of well- and lesser-known gems. Apart from the joy of the simple yet perfect chordal progressions, listen to the warm, caressing tone imparted by the low bass notes in the piano in many of the tracks. The pace is so wonderfully leisurely, there ...

Sensitive modern pianism
Borrowing a phrase from the contemporary political philosopher Fukuyama a case can be made that the world of classical piano music has reached "the end of history". This notion is based on the often heard idea that it only takes two clicks to get superior performances of any piece worth recording at home and that this part of the universe has reached a state of completion. Add to that the ongoing ...
