Great Music
The music on this album is very well done. Amazon's description was sketchy and after receiving the album I realized I already owned it. Fortunately I have friends that would appreciate it so it will make a wonderful gift.

Beethoven: Les 9 Symphonies [Box Set]20 reviews
Ludwig van Beethoven, André Cluytens, ...

EMI Classics France, 2006

lyrical, nimble and passionate beethoven
i add my enthusiastic agreement with the consensus superlatives lavished on this recording cycle. the most direct way to say it: i own the complete beethoven cycles by karajan, klemperer, szell, bohm, harnoncourt, hogwood, gardiner, vanska, abbado, and what's available from furtwangler and kleiber ... and the cluytens set is irreplaceable and indispensible. it's the kind of performance that you ...

A State of Wonder: The Complete Goldberg Variations (1955 & 1981)62 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, Glenn Gould, ...

Sony, 2002

Must-Have Edition of Bach's Goldberg Variations
I finally broke down and bought the double CD after having heard these renditions most of my life. Glenn Gould, virtuoso pianist, made two major recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations. The first was as a technically precise and blisteringly fast youngster. The second, over a quarter of a century later, as a mature and reclusive, famous artist who performs in a slower, more expressive (and ...

Essential Mozart: 32 Of His Greatest Masterpieces25 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Neville Marriner, ...

Decca, 2001

Good times
I just cant say enough about this collection. It used to be that you had to spend a fortune to get Mozart's best hits; a few on each album. Now, you can buy them all at once and dirt cheap! very nice

Denon Records, 2004

Lullabies for the young and young at heart
Purchased the CD from Amazon.com when my daughter asked me to find some soothing music to help her first child relax and fall to sleep. They have and are still enjoying the CD very often.

Product is as advertized. If shipped from Saint Paul, the service was suburb and on time. If shipped from elsewhere service was late and way too long especially if shipped from western US...which is closer to me than MN!

25 Thunderous Classics14 reviews
Richard [1] Strauss, Gustav Holst, ...

Vox (Classical), 2000

Excellent Compilation and Good Value
While 25 Thunderous Classics gives only a brief overview of various pieces of music one could consider 'thunderous,' it is an excellent value and introduction to the style of music. Many of the songs are instantly recognizable, and this is good for someone who may only dabble or be new to classical music. Really, I think the only downside is that it only plays the 'thunderous' part of the song ...

Mahler: The Complete Works - 150th Anniversary Box5 reviews
Gustov Mahler, Simon Rattle, ...

EMI Classics, 2010

Great "Mahler in a box" - excellent deal.
It was bound to happen sooner or later: pretty much everything known by Mahler put into one box (16 cd's). Of course, one could argue endlessly about what performances of the various symphonies EMI could have/should have chosen. But what this set has going for it are a series of outstanding renditions of the various song cycles and vocal works. In addition to having the Thomas Hampson/Wolfram ...

Vivaldi: The Four Seasons8 reviews
Antonio Vivaldi, Alexander Titov, ...

Sony, 1994

Beautiful Recording
I've always appreciated Vivaldi's "Spring," but wanted the entire Four Seasons Concerto. This CD delivers! Not only does this CD contain the entire Four Seasons Concerto, it also includes 3 other violin/cello concertos written by Vivaldi - and they are beautiful! The recording is crisp, the violins intense and beautiful, and the rendering is very well done. This is a recording that one can ...

Romance of the Violin80 reviews
Joshua Bell, Giacomo Puccini, ...

Sony, 2003

Gorgeous, beautiful, 5 stars
I was just getting back into classical music and heard one song on internet radio. I believe it was Casta Diva. I loved it and decided to give the whole cd a try. Not a weak song on it. His playing is exquisite. If you love beautiful, romantic music then this is a must buy!

Prokofiev: Peter & the Wolf11 reviews
Sergey Prokofiev, Mario Rossi, ...

Musical Concepts, 2006

Classic Recording
There are many, many recordings of this children's classic by different narrators and more than a few of them are very good to excellent. This is my emotional favorite. I say emotional, because there are other recordings with better sound and a crisper tempo. Personal preference as to narrator also plays into it. For me, however, there is no more thrilling, enjoyable recording than this one. ...

Telemann:Tafelmusik (Complete) [Box Set]8 reviews
Georg Philipp Telemann, Pieter-Jan Belder, ...

Brilliant Classics, 2004

Telemann Tafelmusik...
Just heard the Concerto for 3 Violins in F Major on KUSC on Tuesday, 03/23/2010. So, I stuck around to get the data on the work so that I could purchase it! Wouldn't you know it was (1)Telemann and (2)performed by Musica Amphion conducted by a certain Mr. Pieter-Jan Belder? Why do I even bring this up? Folks, I bought this collection in Spring 2009! At a great price (no-less!), and I just ...

25 Bach Favorites13 reviews
Hildegard Rutgers, Johann Sebastian Bach, ...

Vox (Classical), 1996

Like Floating On A Cloud
My first real appreciation of this sound was from watching the film "Slaughterhouse Five" in the theater, back in the '70s. That soundtrack was just a taste of what you get with this recording. My family pops this CD in the car stereo on long trips, and glide down the highway to some original smooth grooves. Helps the miles pass swiftly. Music for the soul.

Beethoven's Wig

Rounder / Umgd, 2002

Yes, it's Silly--but kids LIKE Silly!
As a mom and preschool teacher, I thought I'd give this CD a try. I love the classics myself and I want my kids to be exposed to them as well. Yes, some of the songs can be silly...but guess what, kids LIKE silly! It is not a classic CD to relax to my any means--it is a great way to expose them to this great selection of music. It is fun and up beat. My 1 year old always bobs along to ...

Buena Vista, 2006

Great Follow up to Lullabye Classics Vol 1
I knew we would want this after hearing Volume 1. I don't think my daughter has heard more than the first 4 songs, since she generally falls asleep by then. Glad it is so pleasant for us to listen to as well!

Beethoven: Symphonies 5 & 7151 reviews
Ludwig van Beethoven, Carlos Kleiber, ...

Deutsche Grammophon, 1996

inexpensive 'must have' nos.5/7 beethoven
both symphonies are bright and float upward. c. kleiber uses 'negative space'-i.e. silence(&'wide-open sky') in interesting ways to promote the comparative solid, sculpture, statue density of the vpo/c. kleiber bouyant sound. in the late '50's/early '60's movies likeivanhoe, a row of long, valveless trumpet horns would blow fanfares for royalty, and this simplicity of effect and ambience is also ...
