Once in a great while someone does something right...
Kudos to Sony Legacy for putting this wonderful package together. The original 1955 recording of the Goldberg Variations is presented in it's vastly superior and long-neglected analog version (rather than early tech digital side-by-side master, which was, for whatever reason, the way it was released previously). The sound is fine. One can get an understanding right away why Bach is referred to ...

Review
I watched Wagner's opera Der Ring des Nibelungen twenty years ago when it was first televised by the Metropolitan Opera and was enthralled by the production. I was equally excited by the fact that it was still available as a DVD. This DVD package met all my expectation in quality of product and the quick service in getting it to my home was equally appreciated. Thanks so very much!

Great "Mahler in a box" - excellent deal.
It was bound to happen sooner or later: pretty much everything known by Mahler put into one box (16 cd's). Of course, one could argue endlessly about what performances of the various symphonies EMI could have/should have chosen. But what this set has going for it are a series of outstanding renditions of the various song cycles and vocal works. In addition to having the Thomas Hampson/Wolfram ...

The Best Compilation of the Man on 2 Discs! Great Sound Quality Too!
The title very aptly describes this great classical guitar album showcasing some of the best ever works of John Williams on 2 discs. The track selections are great as they span the centuries from the Baroque greats of Bach and Vivaldi to the modern day composers such as Stanley Myers and York. John even flirts with Blues and Jazz-style pieces and they actually sound very good. In addition, ...

Bernstein is strongest is Symphonies 1,4,5,and 6
Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) recorded all 6 Tchaikovsky Symphonies with the New York Philharmonic for Columbia records-now Sony Classical - in the 1960s and early 1970s. Bernstein later re-recorded Symphonies 4,5,and 6 with the New York Philharmonic for Deutsche Grammophon. In this box then are Bernstein's only recordings of Tchaikovsky's first 3 symphonies. Symphony 1 in G Minor, "Winter ...

In memory of an unforgettable giant of the conduction!
For the newcomers in music, it's convenient to carve in relief that during the late sixties and early seventies, only two conductors of mature age captivated the great Halls around the world due his undeniable talent and vital energy: Istvan Kertesz and Carlos Kleiber. Pitifully with the sudden and painful departure of Kertesz in 1973 (He was just 45), Kleiber stood aloof as the most brilliant ...

Radu Lupu's Mood Indigo
Purchasers of Decca's 2005 Radu Lupu Edition -- three budget-priced collections devoted to Schubert, Beethoven, and Brahms -- may be hesitant to buy the new "complete Decca solo recordings" box set. The earlier sets are worth hanging onto for Lupu's complete Beethoven piano concertos with Mehta and the Israel PO; the Brahms D minor concerto with Edo de Waart and the London Philharmonic; and ...

The Decca / Deutsche Grammophon catalogue of Mahler recordings is unsurpassable. Our major contribution to the celebrations this year will be the first-ever Mahler Complete Edition, a combined effort of Decca and Deutsche Grammophon recordings as an 18-CD supe-rbudget box, with the ten symphonies, Das Lied von der Erde, Das klagende Lied, the song cycles, the Knaben Wunderhorn songs and early works - in benchmark recordings by a great assembly ...

Fine performances
Some collections of this type -- a composer's complete works -- are pieced together from here and there, old sources and new, and the resulting collection can be uneven. This set brings together many complete cycles of Mozart's works from individual artists and groups. For example, the fine Hungarian pianist Klárá Würtz performs all the sonatas here in recordings originally issued as a ...

Loving the classics
"Swan Lake" has great meaning for me. I used to rent LPs and would play them in the basement of Fine Arts on the University of Georgia campus. This was in the '50s. There is nothing as soothing as "Swan Lake."

Very Nice and Fair Nutcracker
This is one of the great Nutcrackers put on record. Everything is good, Gergiev does an excellent approach on ballet music, however i can realize on some scratch on surface in some passages that need more psychological treatment, found in another competitors such as Svetlanov or wonderful Hans Vonk. This is an important recording and could be my recommendation for everyone who is looking ...

Just heard the Concerto for 3 Violins in F Major on KUSC on Tuesday, 03/23/2010. So, I stuck around to get the data on the work so that I could purchase it! Wouldn't you know it was (1)Telemann and (2)performed by Musica Amphion conducted by a certain Mr. Pieter-Jan Belder? Why do I even bring this up? Folks, I bought this collection in Spring 2009! At a great price (no-less!), and I just ...

To my ear the playing is perfect and you feel you are right inside the instruments. You can't help but admire perfection and passion/energy. Ms Dinnerstein has justifiably become quite famious. The Definitive Tatiana Nikolaeva recording, re-released
Upon a recommendation from a Finnish friend of mine in the forum, I searched out this Regis release. Upon listening to the samples, it is obvious that these are the definitive 1987 recordings, released first on Melodya, then licensed to Allegro and released on Moscow Studio Archives. Good news, because the others are out of print. Do not even mess with the Hyperion (recorded in 1990 and later ...
