Vivaldi: The Four Seasons24 reviews
Antonio Vivaldi, Zubin Mehta, ...

Deutsche Grammophon, 1990

The name says it all. Vivaldi by Perlman.
It's Vivaldi, there is no need to say anything else. The recording is phenomenal as one would expect from such tallents.

The Dvorak Album11 reviews
Antonin Dvorak, Kurt Masur, ...

Sony, 2004

Glorious music by YoYo.
I am fond of everything that YoYo does. He is the classical artistan who can go outside his natural circle and become the people's artist. He is so expessive and gives his all to the score of Dvorak.

Violin Adagios7 reviews

Decca, 2001

Exquisite collection & performances, unbelievable value!!!
"Over 2 l/2 hours of the world's most beautiful music." These words on the cover are very close to true. What an incredible value this collection is!! So many of these compilations of this sort are cheaply produced, and those "greatest hits" collections are one trite piece after another -- after a while one runs screaming to the stereo to shut it off. However, this collection is top-notch, ...

Beethoven - Triple Concerto ~ Choral Fantasy / Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Berliner Phil., Barenboim12 reviews
Ludwig van Beethoven, Berliner Philharmoniker, ...

EMI Classics, 1995

Great
Although the Triple Concerto is not one of Beethoven's most inspired compositions, it is indeed thrilling when played well. Perlman, Ma, and Berenboim certainly give a convincing performance of this work. They collaborate well together, and the energy they create in this piece is electrifying. The Berlin Philharmonic also gives a wonderful accompaniment to the three soloists. This is indeed ...

Bach: Violin Concertos15 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, Daniel Barenboim, ...

EMI Classics, 2002

Very pleasing
I can understand the criticism and praise from the reviewers on this interpretation. Once again, it's a matter of taste and ultimately liking the balance between technical skill and expression. Sometimes the tempi can alter the course of appreciation as well, and I think that's more the case here. To my ear, this is a very solid and beautiful rendition. Perlman plays with a very distinct ...

Beethoven: Piano Trios, Vol. 2; Itzhak Perlman; Vladimir Ashkenazy; Lynn Harrell7 reviews
Itzhak Perlman, Vladimir Ashkenazy, ...

EMI Classics, 2004

Definitive Beethoven Piano Trios!
Unfortunately there are only a handful of the Beethoven Complete Piano Trios on disc. Of those, these are by far the finest. I've purchased the set by Baremboim-Zukerman-DuPre several years ago, but found their performances to be a bit dry, conservative and uninvolved in the music. The Beaux Art Trio's renditions are classics, but inconsistent. The Askenazy-Perlman-Harrell set are not only ...

Mozart: The Violin Sonatas10 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Daniel Barenboim

Deutsche Grammophon, 2003

My favorite
I have several versions of these sonatas including the DVD of Anne-Sophie Mutter with Lambert Orkis and the CD performed on fortepiano and early violin by Malcolm Bilson and Sergiu Luca. You must look to other reviews for proper analysis, but I much prefer this performance for its balance between the performers as well as its production. The Bilson-Luca is spirited and challenging, though I ...

Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E minor; Bruch: Violin Concerto #1; Itzhak Perlman9 reviews
Itzhak Perlman, Felix Mendelssohn, ...

EMI Classics, 1990

An Impressive Pairing of Concertos
In addition to the bargain price of this 1990 recording the music lover will find two of the more solid performances of two very popular and demanding violin concertos from the vast repertoire available. Itzhak Perlman is in top form for these performances, marrying his impeccable technique with the poetry inherent in his approach to the scores. The Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor, Op. 26 by Max ...

Tchaikovsky & Mendelssohn Violin Concertos4 reviews
Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky, Felix [1] Mendelssohn, ...

EMI Classics, 2003

Superb versions of the violin concerti!
I was familiar with both Violin Concerti before my purchase, but since I am just starting to work on my own collection, did not own any version of either of them. I chose this CD at the store because of the relatively prestigious reputations of all performers and conductors, even though there were cheaper options. I have not been dissapointed! These versions of the Violin Concerti are without ...

Beethoven: The Violin Sonatas8 reviews
Ludwig van Beethoven, Vladimir Ashkenazy, ...

Decca, 2002

Greatest cycle of the greatest violin sonatas ever
I agree that this is the greatest cycle of the greatest set of violin sonatas ever written. Gidon and Argerich are also good but Argerich doesn't articulate her notes clearly like Ashkenazy. You feel that Argerich is kind of "cheating" by skimming to lightly over some notes - whereas Beethoven needs to be played with a greater force. Ashkenazy provides just the right kind of Beethovenian playing. ...

The Italian Album6 reviews
Giovanni Gabrieli, Antonio Vivaldi, ...

Sony, 1990

Bravo!
I heard this album for the first time at a restuarant in Florence during my trip to Italy. I was surprised it was from the US beacause it has captured the very soul of Italy. After 7 years it has remained my favorite of all Puccini cds I own. I especially like the fact that it is instumental and can be played for many occassions. It never fails to stir the wanderlust for a trip back to ...

Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante7 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Zubin Mehta, ...

Deutsche Grammophon, 1990

CONCERTED EFFORT
Why is Mozart's great double concerto for violin and viola called `Sinfonia Concertante'? I am only assuming provisionally that Mozart himself used the term - his voluble correspondence never (so far as I know) refers to the work. This is now the second performance of it in my collection, the first being a Supraphon production from 1962 issued on a Classics for Pleasure LP with Suk and Skampa as ...

Beethoven - Choral Fantasy and Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello & Piano / Barenboim, Ma, Perlman12 reviews
Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman

EMI Classics, 2003

Beethoven Choral fantasy and Triple Concerto
A wonderful treat to see these three great musicians playing together! They are so intense and involved in the music, a true inspiration to us all! Outstanding work by Daniel Barenboim to be able to conduct and play - he is truly one of the greatest pianists of our time!

Itzhak Perlman: Beethoven/Brahms Violin Concertos11 reviews, ...

EMI Classics, 2005

maybe the best "modern" video of these works
It's hard to beat this DVD - Two of the best pieces of music ever written (Beethoven and Brahms violin concertos) One of the great soloists alive today, and the Berlin Philharmonic with a talented conductor with great insight into the music (Barenboim). Excellent production, sound and video - A few strange intonation problems in the Brahms still don't prevent me from giving this one 5 stars.

In the Fiddler's House16 reviews
Itzhak Perlman

Angel Records, 1995

A Destination and a Beginning ...
Having heard this one local Klezmer band a few times and wanting a CD, I browsed and took a chance on this one. It's wonderful, multi-dimensional music, ranging from the uptempo "Oy!Oy!Oy!" dance pieces to the aching beauty of "Flatbush Waltz." As follow ups, I've gotten some wonderful CDs by Itzhak Perlman's musical partners here: Andy Statman, The Klezmatics, The Klezmer Conservatory Band, ...

Concertos From My Childhood / Perlman, Foster24 reviews
Lawrence Foster, Charles August de Beriot, ...

EMI Classics, 1999

At last, student pieces played by a virtuoso
There's a lot of composers who wrote pieces especially suited for students. Many of those pieces are relatively "easy" to play, but are also very beautiful compositions. These pieces, and their composers, deserve to be discovered by a larger public. Thanks to Ytzhak Perlman. I recommend this album to any violin student of any age. Classic Yo-Yo18 reviews
Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla, ...

Sony, 2001

Bravo
I don't feel particularly qualified to comment on anyone's musicianship. However, I can tell the difference between an instrument well played and, well, the opposite. Love Ma's playing, and this is a nice representation of his repertoire.
