like it
I play this every night to put my son to sleep. I hear music is supposed to be good brain development for math and being a math teacher I figured I try it. Playing this music seems to relax my son and puts him to sleep. It even puts my husband to sleep...

Essential Guitar: 34 Guitar Masterpieces

Decca, 2002

Great
I got this for my mom whose family were from Spain a few generations back. She went last fall and loved it. I heard about the album as a premium on my local Public radio. I had already done my pledge so I got this here. My mom loves it and I liked it so much I burned a copy for myself too. It arrived on time and in perfect condition.

Great lessons with Classical Music
I have really enjoyed listening to these CDs with words to Classical Music. Being a trained classical musician this is such a fun way to teach Classics to the younger generation. Keep it up!!!

Excellent Service - As Usual!
Everything was completed in great shape, as usual. The disc was exactly as described...it was shipped immediately...and arrived in the time frame advertised, with notice having been e-mailed. My title as stated above says it all!

Dreaming Rachmaninov
Ordering coffee at 6:00 AM in an empty Java Jones, I heard some amazing piano and instantly fell in love with this music. I asked the coffee girl what song this was and she told me it was some dude named Rachmaninoff and spelled it onto a napkin (mispelled it, making it impossible to find later), and since then this album has been one of my favorites. I went on a Rachmaninoff binge for a ...

Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 3, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini2 reviews
Rachmaninov, Gergiev, ...

Mariinsky, 2010

The gem here is a scintillating Paganini Rhapsody, a total delight
The previous Mariinsky releases have concentrated on unusual repertoire. Here, as a change up, they offer very familiar piano showpieces by Rachmaninov. Thanks to the fall of the Soviet empire, Russian conductors and pianists have flooded the world with far more of Rachmaninov's music than it merits. So, can the starry Denis Matsuev and the masterful Gergiev outshine dozens of competitors who ...

This is the first classical cd I have ever bought. The two-disc album was a great price. I really love the performance of Lynn Harrell. I like the collection of Adagios because they are perfect to fall asleep to or study to.

Relaxing Music Suited For Today's Busy Lifestyles
"A vast and tender calm Seems to descend from the sky Lit by the moon This is the exquisite hour" ~ Paul Verlaine ~ The above quote is taken from a poem by 19th Century Fench poet Paul Verlaine titled "La Bonne Chanson No. 6." His words fittingly describe the ambience of this classical album which promises unruffled musical moments just perfect for unwinding and relaxing, or when you're ...

Liszt: Favourite Piano Works9 reviews
Franz Liszt, Jorge Bolet

Decca, 1995

Don't downrate a CD because of a missing piece - please!
This is an excellent representative 2-CD bargin set of Liszt's piano works played by a recognized expert pianist in this repertoire. The other reviewers (i.e. those w/ 5* ratings) have made their points well. What continues to bother me in many of these classical CD reviews is 'downgrading' a CD by several stars, if not more in some cases, because the listener is irked at the lack of a feature ...

Piano Concerto 2 / Rhapsody on Theme of Paganini7 reviews
Rachmaninoff, Graffman, ...

Sony, 1990

Hard to find a better recording
This is one of the finest performance and recording of these pieces available. Gary Graffman shows his brilliant talent in these interpretations of Rachmaninoff. Far too many think that speed is critical in performing specific passages when in fact patience is required. One may have the skill to play all the notes but lack the talent to perform the music. Graffman performs with nuance and ...

Decca, 2005

Great Music by a Gifted Performer, Terrible Plastic Case
Joshua Bell's playing is simply enchanting. This recording is wonderful and I needed it as a reward after I fought the plastic case to release the two discs. The packaging - hard plastic case with a non-release hard plastic wheel in the center of the CDs - was so frustrating that I was considering breaking the case just to get the discs loose, but was worried I'd break the CDs instead, so I ...

Pay no heed to the anti-hype
This is a great CD. I've listened to it at least 10 times both in my car and in my phones at work. Yes, I have other versions of these pieces. This version certainly stands up to any I've heard. One disclaimer though is that I have seen Lang Lang in concert and so I can visualize him playing here. Maybe that taints my opinion but I think this disc is quite good.

Outstanding value, plain and simple
I've had this CD sitting on my wish list for quite some time, but for some reason never got around to buying it. The other day, it took a drop in price. I was ordering some other items so I stuck the CD on the order. Oh my.... wish I had ordered it sooner. The music is wonderful. I know where I will be turning when I find myself in the mood for some relaxing and expertly played classical ...

His Story & His Music2 reviews
Brahms

Vox (Classical), 1995

great series
This CD along with the others in the series is very good. So far we have collected about ten different ones. They are thorough and interesting. I homeschool and it has been a great additon to our teaching materials and tools. The narrarated history format interspersed with the composer's music is key to keeping the interest of the children. A must-have for introducing classical music with ...

Cello Essentials: The World's Greatest Cello Music1 review
Janos Starker, Johann Sebastian Bach, ...

Denon Records, 2008

You can't go wrong with Janos Starker
This is a good collection that spans a wide variety of styles and eras. Many contain pieces most cellists should know, but I hadn't yet heard. Musically, I have no complaint, but the packaging looks like it was put together in a hurry. The back of mine said "Guitar Essentials". No worries, I won't be listening to the packaging. A good value.

Heard this with NEW appreication.........
This is such a wonderful mix. I especially love the Haydn concerto finale in E flat. I was listening to this cd when my grandson (almost 3) heard the glorious music of the trumpet for the first time. He loved seeing the photos of Mr. Marsalis (which I embellished, albeit true, saying how difficult it is to play the trumpet - hence the need for a handerchief to wipe his brow in one of the photos). ...

Rachmaninov: Complete Piano Concertos/Rhapsody2 reviews
Sergei Rachmaninoff, Andre Previn, ...

Decca, 2003

Classical Rachmaninov Performance by Ashkenazy
This CD replaces a tape cassette of the exact same performance of the 2nd piano concerto that I have had for years, which became unplayable. The CD was derived from the same analog master as the tape, but, of course, is superior to it. I now have all of the Rachmaninov concerti plus the Rapsody and Variations. I am very pleased!
