Lovely
I purchased this for my daughter because it includes the Brahms' lullaby at the very end. When I first sang this lullaby to her when she was two and a half, she cried. I asked, "Why are you crying?" She said, "Because it's so pretty." We were in the guest bedroom on the second floor of her grandparents' house in Portland, a little bungalow in Northeast, the night before the Portland Marathon. ...

Bernstein Favorites review - great!
My children and I really enjoy this CD. It has lots of useful information about instruments of the orchestra. The children love the Peter and the Wolf story the most, but the individual instruments section is very interesting for them (and adults) as well!

The Best recording of Peter and the Wolf!
This is a fantastic disc! Peter and the Wolf sounds whimsical, fun, and great as narrated by David Bowie. Bowie proves to be the best narrator yet for Peter and the Wolf! Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra sounds excellent as performed by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra! To wrap up the disc we have a stellar performance of Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals by Arthur ...

Outstanding Collection
The aptly named Ultimate Movie Music Collection does not disappoint in the least. As a film score and movie soundtrack purist, I am always skeptical about any CD with film scores that have been re-orchestrated, and re-recorded by a pops orchestra. More often than not, renditions of scores tend to lack the emotion and impact of the original and are vastly inferior. I can confidently say that this ...

"Some Enchanted Evening" with Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops
Erich Kunzel's Rodgers and Hammerstein anthology with the Cincinatti Pops Orchestra is one of the best and most ravishing instrumental Rodgers and Hammerstein albums of all time. With sumptuous arrangements and warm, natural Telarc recording, this glorious 77-minute CD presents sweeping, melodic arrangements of over 60 Rodgers and Hammerstein selections, spanning eight scores, and Kunzel allows ...

A Masterwork of the Art of Recording
Quite simply, this is a towering masterwork, first on a performance level; a great orchestra, a truly great conductor (I heard him conduct again recently here in Cincinnati---and he is still great--over 40 years after this recording was made), as well as several of the most magnificent voices of the 20th century---all at their respective peaks. In addition folks, it is ultimate realization of ...

Great narration and balance
This recording is the best I have found in regards to the balance of the orchestra volumes. Others to which I have listened needed the volume adjusted because either the music was too soft or too loud. David Bowie does a great job at narrating as well.

Herman's best!
I don't typically belong to the Jerry Herman fan base, but this score of his is awesome. I am familiar with Hello, Dolly, Mame, Mack And Mabel and La Cage Aux Folles, but this is the only Herman score I find enjoyable throughout. Having the glorious Angela Lansbury singing the bittersweet songs is also wonderful. As this show is one of the celebrated, legendary flops of Broadway history, I assume ...

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

My kids love it. So do I.
Great Narration. I don't know why people think Bernstein's voice is not 'kid-friendly'. I'm actually glad to have a male voice talking to the kids once in a while, and he tells the story of Peter and the Wolf well. My kids learned a lot about the various instruments of the orchestra from all three pieces. We combined this with the following game for a great intro to the orchestra! [...]

St. Paul's Cathedral ImpressiveCollection of Anglican Hymns
St. Paul's Cathdral is the second largest cathedral church in the basilican style, exceeded only by St. Peter's Rome. New York City's St. John the Divine is larger than St. Paul's, but with decidely gothic elements. All three cathedrals have fine choirs, but St. Paul's and St. John's continue the noble and unique sound of boys and men in the English tradition. St. Paul's great organ is one of ...

Having heard Kings College Choir twice, in the flesh, at Kings, this CD is a wonderful example of what you might hear. If you can't make it to Cambridge, buy this CD. It contains many of the old favorites and also some hymns that are not found on other English hymn CD's.

The title says it all.
I bought this CD set for my fiance who requested a "greatest hits" of classical music. He was able to recognize 90% of the pieces, and has listened to the CDs several times in the past month. I am a great fan of classical music, so I was able to recognize that many of the pieces were not performed by top-rate musicians or orchestras, but my fiance didn't notice. He simply wanted an ...

Everyone Should Whistle
After being privileged to attend this concert, I had to own the CD. Once a lyric coloratura and the original Cunegonde in Bernstein's Candide, Ms. Cook has become (in her 70s) a true diva, blessed with a velvety, warm sound. Every note has meaning. Her high B-flat on "Ice Cream" is still the envy of any soprano today. Everyone should whistle after hearing the superb performances on this CD. ...

Great Sampler!
This is a good sampler, since it covers what you would want in a classical music CD. Looking at the tracks, it has the classic hits, such as "Ride of the Valkyries," "Toccata and Fugue," "Fanfare for the Common Man," "'Jupiter' from `The Planets,'" "Eine Klein Nachtmusik," and "Hallelujah Chorus." There are also some new pieces that I have fallen in love with, such as "The Young Person's Guide ...
