Beautiful piano music!
This is simply an exquisite collection of beautiful piano pieces. I am very satisfied with this purchase. I can read while listening to this music-call it background music...maybe, but even when you're doing something else-the music is there...it does not intrude, but it doesn't get lost either. I am having a hard time explaining this. I wanted music to relax and enjoy. I got just that with this ...

I dearly love this album. There were places that nearly brought tears to my eyes. Lucia said in an interview, "I play violin!" and that is a complete understatement. She is the instrument when she plays. I love it and her.

Amazing and PERFECT for those who don't know classical music!
I don't know a lot about classical music, but I wanted a CD that would be relaxing and would highlight some of the more well known classical songs. Browsing on Amazon, I came across this CD and previewed the songs and loved it! Since it arrived in the mail, it is all I listen to! It is so very relaxing. I tend to have a little road rage at times, so I play it in the car and feel very relaxed. It ...

What a bargain!
To get 8 discs of music of this quality at around $30 is a steal. DG is usually notorious for over pricing their single CD's (usually around $18 a pop, so this is indeed a very pleasant surprise. Then when you consider that the discs contain the mercurial, hot tempered, fire breathing dragoness in her prime it is simply a must buy. Of course, Argerich falls into the same category as other artists ...

A New Kind of 'Cross-over'
Probably so, since the compilation in this CD includes quite a number of Chinese tracks. Unlike the 'Dragon Songs' or other albums of LL, this is a hybrid compilation of Western piano music and Chinese works. LL excels in the Chinese tracks. Some of the tracks are a debut release (by LL, if not universally). LL's musical upbringing starts from Chinese folk music, not 'Tom and Jerry', ...

"Mommy, Mommy, it's Tchaikovsky . . ."
This is a fantastic CD on so many levels -- Perlmutter has added witty, silly, yet often educational lyrics to some of the most recognizeable melodies in classical music. Most of the lyrics include some information about the composer, so that anyone who listens a few times will at least learn the composer's name, perhaps the popular name of the melody, and a few other facts. For example, ...

Rhapsody in blue
I first heard Leonard Bernstein's version of Rahpsody in Blue in the early 1960s, on a 7" vinyl record. It has remained my favourite ever since. This digital issue on a CD is excellent. Nothing has been lost in the transition from analogue to digital recording, and it is every bit as enjoyable now as it was when I first heard it forty-five years ago.

Great Entertainment
This is a fabulous recording of Ashkenazy performing with the London Symphony Orchestra, and his performance is enhanced by the formidable conducting of Andre Previn. It's particularly great entertainment if you are a Rachmaninoff fan!

CD: The Ten Tenors "Here's to the Heroes"
This CD is awesome. We first heard them perform on "Extreme Makeover" and were deligted to find their CD on Amazon. There voices blend so beautifully. On some songs, it's like you're listening to an angel choir. Have the CD in my van. Very soothing for city driving.

Great Gershwin
Great value for the price. Light classic and ragtime selections which tend to give you a 'good' feeling and yen to tap your feet. The arrangements are catchy and tend to stay with you.

A Must Have For All Trumpet Players
I purchased this recording as a reference recording for my trumpet studio. As I started to listen to it, I realized that it contains some of the absolute greatest classical trumpet recordings there are. Rafael Mendez is mind-blowing, Bud Herseth's rendition of the Haydn Concerto is stunningly flawless and Abblasen is a great way to open this 2-CD set. It contains a sample of almost all the ...

You can't go wrong with Janos Starker
This is a good collection that spans a wide variety of styles and eras. Many contain pieces most cellists should know, but I hadn't yet heard. Musically, I have no complaint, but the packaging looks like it was put together in a hurry. The back of mine said "Guitar Essentials". No worries, I won't be listening to the packaging. A good value.

The Finest Recordings of These Four Selections
George Gershwin (1898-1937) first made a name for himself as the composer of one memorable popular song after another--songs that have proven remarkably durable and have entered our collective consciousness to become "great standards" by which others are judged. In 1924 he began to leap the gulf between "popular" and "serious" music, and between 1924 and his untimely death in 1937 he created a ...

This box selection is enjoyable
Cheers to those with drive to attain "real" music student status. However, I just want to listen to music passages I have found enjoyable over the years. There is no pretense of this selection being a student workbook of classical music for the serious scholar - it is just an enjoyable alternative to that shared by those offensively loud vehicles near me at the stoplight.

It has given more pleasure than any recording I own...
I have owned 4 copies of this recording since the early 1980's-- the first on cassette (pre-CD) and three in CD format. One for the car, one for the house, and one just in case it ever went out of print-- though it never has. And I've given several as gifts. I enjoy classical music as an amateur, but I am neither an expert nor an audio wonk. Simply stated, this CD has given me more unalloyed ...

Dreaming Rachmaninov
Ordering coffee at 6:00 AM in an empty Java Jones, I heard some amazing piano and instantly fell in love with this music. I asked the coffee girl what song this was and she told me it was some dude named Rachmaninoff and spelled it onto a napkin (mispelled it, making it impossible to find later), and since then this album has been one of my favorites. I went on a Rachmaninoff binge for a ...

If you are a music buff like myself ( and I do like all kinds of music ), than what's not to like about The Boléro, by Ravel? And I don't buy into that hog-wash of a story that Ravel wrote this piece in the beginning of dementia...gimmie a break and give that man credit where credit is due.....The Boléro is a master piece! Ok...my review: It was a pleasure to shop for this Cd on Amazon ( ...
