Along with Voice of the Violin, this is the most beautiful collection of violin I have heard. In the car or in the home, just put it in the player and enjoy.

Chopin Complete Edition5 reviews
Various Artists

Deutsche Grammophon, 2010

This box is an incredible bargain
When I first saw this box, I didn't really have the intention to buy it, as I owned already some of the recordings in it - for example all Pollini recordings, and also Blechacz' preludes. But since the price was so ridiculously low (I paid 39 euros at www.amazon.fr), I purchased it anyway, and I must say that I am very, very happy with it. The overall quality of the performances is ...

The Most Soothing Lullabies In The Universe15 reviews
Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, ...

Denon Records, 2004

The Most Soothing Lullabies
great collection of classical music that most people would recognize. I was so happy to finally find this music played with real instruments and not midi/synthesized. I like to play this cd in the evening while we start to wind things down and helps my transition towards bed time. Could also be played softly while baby falls asleep.

Gershwin: Rhapsody In Blue/An American In Paris22 reviews
George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, ...

Sony, 1990

Rhapsody in blue
I first heard Leonard Bernstein's version of Rahpsody in Blue in the early 1960s, on a 7" vinyl record. It has remained my favourite ever since. This digital issue on a CD is excellent. Nothing has been lost in the transition from analogue to digital recording, and it is every bit as enjoyable now as it was when I first heard it forty-five years ago.

Various Artists

Buena Vista, 2006

Great Follow up to Lullabye Classics Vol 1
I knew we would want this after hearing Volume 1. I don't think my daughter has heard more than the first 4 songs, since she generally falls asleep by then. Glad it is so pleasant for us to listen to as well!

Spanish Guitar Music11 reviews
Isaac Albeniz, Gaspar Sanz, ...

Sony, 2002

pleasant, soothing, beatuiful
Gorgeous playing, excellent song selection... I listen to this while reading, or painting - it's great music for shutting down a "noisy" brain - very relaxing. Good quality sound, too. Lovely on rainy days, in winter with candles burning ... really adds to a contemplative (but not somber) ambience.

Cecilia Bartoli: Sacrificium16 reviews
Various, Giovanni Antonini, ...

Decca, 2009

New Opera Listener
I heard an interview with Cecilia Bartoli on NPR about two months ago and was fascinated by it. She spoke of the castrati singers who I knew a little about because of a course available on opera done by "The Teaching Company" by Robert Greenberg. (I'm new to opera but it's possible to learn much in little time between courses like this, inexpensive downloads and live HD opera at theaters. You ...

Antonio Vivaldi, Itzhak Perlman, ...

Awesome Compositions
As usual the compositions are awesome. Mr. Perlman has immortalized four seasons. The Royal Philharmonic is awesome as usual. In brief I loved each and every composition (esp the Spring Allegro)

New Year's Concert 20101 review
Georges Pretre, Various, ...

Decca, 2010

An elegant but rather tired event under the aged Pretre
I can see why the Vienna Phil. invited Georges Pretre back so soon after his 2008 appearance: he scored a hit then with a Napoleonic theme. It was refreshing to hear how linked to France the Strauss family -- and all of Europe -- was, and many delightful surprises emerged. But 2010 is a letdown. There's no consistent theme, the selections are conventional, and Pretre, now 85, has lost ...

A Turkic Homo Sapiens known as Cromagnon
This recording is an essential step in the re-building of the common cultural stock that unifies our European and Mediterranean world. Apart from the fact that the first homo sapiens occupants (Cromagnon) of Europe were of Turkic culture and language (as shown in the most recent archaeological linguistic and cultural approaches of Europe), apart from the fact that in the old Nordic saga Sigurd ...

Peter and the Wolf / Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra / Carnival of the Animals13 reviews
Benjamin Britten, Sergey Prokofiev, ...

RCA, 1994

The Best recording of Peter and the Wolf!
This is a fantastic disc! Peter and the Wolf sounds whimsical, fun, and great as narrated by David Bowie. Bowie proves to be the best narrator yet for Peter and the Wolf! Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra sounds excellent as performed by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra! To wrap up the disc we have a stellar performance of Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals by Arthur ...

Soothing music to dream by
With so much turmoil and upheaval in the world today this CD will carry you off gently to a special place of peace and calm. As a lifelong Debussy devotee I can't recommend this collection highly enough. Play this album before bedtime and you will float off to sleep, your mind at rest and the worries of your day forgotten. Heavenly Adagios4 reviews
Jascha Silberstein, Julian Lloyd Webber, ...

Decca, 2003

Two and a half hours of divine music...what more can I say?
Well, a lot! And since no one else has taken the trouble to review my favorite Adagios collection, I'm just gonna hafta go an' do it myself, won't I? Starting with the stunningly gorgeous 'Jesu, joy of man's desiring' by Bach, this tape reels you in instantly. I'm not much of a fan of 'slow' and 'peaceful' music; I like the beautiful, sublime type that just makes you tingle all over whenever ...

Mozart: Violin Concertos27 reviews
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Raymond Leppard, ...

Philips, 1993

Great Music at an Affordable Price
If you are looking for a music critics revoiew, this is not for you. I don't know a quarter note from a half, but I know what I like. This I like.Equally important my cat, who is mad about Mozart, prefers the violin concertos above all else. It is important to "soothe (her) savage breast." Not being an expert inm music you can rightly ask how I would know if this recording is any good. It ...

Music from a Farther Room70 reviews
Lucia Micarelli, Eric Holden, ...

Reprise Records, 2004

Loosh
I dearly love this album. There were places that nearly brought tears to my eyes. Lucia said in an interview, "I play violin!" and that is a complete understatement. She is the instrument when she plays. I love it and her.
