Good investment
The drive works perfectly, reading and writing all the advertised media at fast speeds. Fancy insertion of the cd/dvd (somehow accelerated). Silent while operating. The led is one color, meaning that won't light up differently when reading and writing, but who cares? :)

We bought a Gateway and Windows got hosed for some reason. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate toll number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't work, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to ...

Audio Output on 40 pin IDE cable !
There is no audio 4 pin connector on the back of the drive - this freaked me out, but Sony Tech Support informed me that this DVD-RW's audio is on the 40 pin IDE cable so no 4 pin cable is needed. The Sony DRXS70U is an excellent portable CD/DVD drive. It is slim and compact and, more importantly, speeds up copying discs considerably. Copying from one drive to a second is much faster than copying from a disc to the hard drive then back to a new disc. It is also a must-have accessory for mini-notebooks, e.g. ASUA Eee PC900, which don't have built-in optical drives. I recommend it.
