The Lord of the Rings335 reviews
Christopher Guard, William Squire

Warner Home Video, 2001

Fantasy Fantastic
I read the books in the early 70's and passed them on to friends. I still have a set in the house and recently bought all the movies. The movies are not quite up to the books but the last ones are close. I throughly enjoyed them.

Edward the King2 reviews
Timothy West, Annette Crosbie

Acorn Media, 2008

ANOTHER WINNER IN BRITISH DRAMA
You do not have to be British or even knowledgeable in British History to enjoy this 13-episode (each being about 51 minutes) story of the making of King Edward the 7th. It was originally broadcast on British TV (as Edward the Seventh) in the 70s but is so well done that it appears to be a 21th century release. Queen Victoria (Annette Crosbie) begins as a young lady who married Prince Albert ...

One Foot in the Grave - Season 47 reviews
Richard Wilson, Annette Crosbie

Bbc Video, 2008

Hilarious British comedy- don't be a Victor Meldrew, watch it!
I just love this show! I found it by accident when purchasing other British comedies on Amazon. It's a comedy along the lines of Fawlty Towers, The Thin Blue Line and Blackadder. Yet, One Foot in the Grave is distinctly unique. It covers an overlooked segment of the population (the recently retired & aging segment). If you have never saw One Foot in the Grave, start at season 1 and work your ...

Calendar Girls99 reviews
Helen Mirren, Julie Walters

Walt Disney Video, 2004

Calendar Girls
This is a feel-good movie which makes you laugh and cry, and the best part, no violence, no blood and no explicit sex. Helen Mirren shows once again that she is a great actress, regardless of the role she plays.

Summer's Lease13 reviews
Jeremy Kemp, Rosemary Leach

Acorn Media, 2005

Hoist the Jolly Roger!
Although I am still not certain who did what to whom and why, I nevertheless enjoyed a second watching of John Mortimer's mystery, "Summer's Lease," which I saw when it was first broadcast on PBS. "Summer's Lease" is John Gielgud's show. It does not matter how old he is; he still steals every scene as the outrageously libidinous old pirate of a father to Molly(coddle) Pargeter, a repressed ...

Richard Wilson, Annette Crosbie

Langrishe, Go Down3 reviews
Judi Dench, Jeremy Irons

Image Entertainment, 2004

An Irish Story
This is a fine example of earlier work by Judi Dench, Jeremy Irons and Annette Crosbie in a Harold Pinter BBC2 Play of the Week from 1977. The story is about two sisters who live in their ancestral Irish home in genteel poverty, bored and trapped. Enter the young student (Irons) and an opportunity for the sensual Imogen (Judi Dench) to express herself.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld Collection (Wyrd Sisters / Soul Music)7 reviews
Christopher Lee, Jane Horrocks

Acorn Media, 2008

Pleased the whole family
My husband and I are huge Pratchett fans. We had Wyrd Sisters on video tape before we learned that it was out on DVD. Soul Music just seemed icing on the cake, especially since our toddler loves it. She loves music and just fell in love with the guitar on the show :D. We can't wait to see if the BBC releases more of the books as cartoons or live action.

Edward the King10 reviews
Timothy West, Helen Ryan

Bonneville Ent., 2003

Good old-fashioned TV
This thirteen part series does something very rare in TV: it tracks the entire life history of a single individual, seven decades in all, patiently showing all its defining events. The choice of subject did not make things easy: the vapid, womanizing Edward VII is not a very sympathetic character, though the sharpest edges have been blunted a bit in the re-telling; his marriage to Alexandra, for ...

The Slipper and the Rose110 reviews
Richard Chamberlain, Gemma Craven

Image Entertainment, 2000

I love The Slipper and The Rose!
This is a truly enchanting musical version of the Cinderella story. I first watched this as a young girl and I've recently watched the DVD a number of times. I was amazed that even though over 10 years have passed I remembered most of the story, including song lyrics and dialogue...obviously it made a big impression on me the first time around! Watching the film as an adult is a real treat. There ...

Leon the Pig Farmer [Region 2]5 reviews
Mark Frankel, Janet Suzman

Leon The Pig Farmer
This was a strange movie, but I love it. It was very funny. And the reilgous jokes were not that bad. Mark Frankel did a great job. I love the whole part were he is at the bowling alley. When he got hit in the face by the ball, I never thought I was going to stop laughing. It was a great movie. Everyone should see it. I would buy it for a friend Thanks ...

Edward the Seventh1 review
Timothy West, Helen Ryan

Excellent!
This was truly a superb series that gave a good look at the life and times of Edward VII of England. The King who waited a lifetime to sit on the throne, and while he didn't get to rule for very long, became known as Edward "The Peacemaker", for his gift of diplomacy around the world. The series is well written, enlightening and entertaining as well. From Edward's birth, while his mother Queen ...

Terry Pratchett's Discworld - Wyrd Sisters58 reviews
Christopher Lee, Jane Horrocks

Acorn Media, 2001

Should have been MUCH better . . .
Somehow, I missed knowing about this until recently, even though I've read most of the Discworld books. The sisters in question are the somewhat austere Granny Weatherwax and her associates, the fun-loving Nanny Ogg, and the much younger Magrat Garlick, all of them witches. The king of Lancre has just been murdered by Duke Felmet and his Valkyrie-like Duchess and the infant prince has ...

The Six Wives of Henry VIII - Complete Set82 reviews
Keith Michell, Annette Crosbie

Bfs Entertainment, 2000

Engrossing History
From start to finish, the story of Henry VII is played out so well that you can't wait to see the next episode. Engrossing, historically accurate, and portrayed by the finest of English actors.I have rarely been so engrossed in a series.I am not going into each episode because most know the story. And for those who don't, you will enjoy this production even more while learning...HISTORY, Heaven ...

Oliver Twist
Another great Masterpiece Theatre production, along with a prequel not written by Dickens, but it could have been; it's that good!

A Question of Faith4 reviews
Rosemary Leach, Alan Dobie

First Look Pictures, 2001

The Title "Question of Faith" says it All
I originally saw this movie at the Sundance Film Festival when it was first released and the name was "Blessed Art Thou". Being a Catholic I was very open-minded to the contents of the movie and realize there is quite a bit of symbolism taking place. I enjoyed the move. But having the opportunity to speak with the producer and the cast of the film made it more enjoyable. The insight they gave ...
