Sony Pictures, 2007

Gandhi Review
At the beginning of the movie, Gandhi was in South Africa working as an attorney. He was well dressed, yet not very well-spoken. In one of the first scenes, he was thrown off a train because a "colored person" wasn't allowed to ride in the 1st class section, even though he had a ticket. In my opinion, that is what started Gandhi's quest to free his people, and decided to go back to India where he ...

GOOD MOVIE, GOOD GAME.
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot. Searching for Bobby Fischer is a movie based on the true story of Joshua Waitzkin [Max Pomeranc) A Seven year old boy. Anne Frank - The Whole Story146 reviews
Ben Kingsley, Brenda Blethyn

Walt Disney Video, 2001

By far the best Anne Frank drama so far.
As a Holocaust and Anne Frank buff (If buff is the correct word) I have seen every Anne Frank movie thus far. When I first heard that Anne Frank was going to be a "Wonderful World of Disney" 2 part mini series I was hesistant. Since Disney is so good at sugar coating and changing "bad" endings into "happy ever afters", I was afraid they would do the same with Anne Frank. I decided to ...

Joseph (The Bible Collection)116 reviews
Ben Kingsley, Paul Mercurio

Turner Home Ent, 2005

great movie about Joseph
I really loved this movie ,it describes the biblical account pretty accurate. it starts w/ Joseph being sold to Egypt and backtracks after Joseph is accused from Potiphars wife, when Joseph defends himself in front of Potiphar through telling him his life story.I was clued to the screen the whole time. Also the actor for Joseph is very likable and also Jacob(Martin Landau) did a great performance.

Twelfth Night134 reviews
Helena Bonham Carter, Richard E. Grant

Image Entertainment, 2005

In the Whirligig of Time
Trevor Nunn's impeccably cast Twelfth Night does a stunning job of revealing the symbolism that saturates this play. Nunn's masterly tightening and interweaving of Shakespeare's scenes accentuates the symbols in the text while his cinematography makes haunting use of visual images that are the staples of Celtic legend. That earlier world's own metaphysical investment in the mystical union of ...

"Mesmerizing"
One of the greatest Steven Speilberg films ever made, "Shindler's List" is widely regarded as the best movie to ever dramatize the horriffic trauma that Jewish people faced during Hitler's terrifying reign. Winner of an amazing seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, "Shindler's List" accounts how Oskar Shindler (played beautifully by Liam Neeson) saved the lives of over ...

House of Sand and Fog281 reviews
Jennifer Connelly, Ben Kingsley

Dreamworks Video, 2004

Heavy Mortgage...
My taste runs more toward the macabre. I am a horror nut. However, movies do come along that drag me out of my comfort zone, forcing me to try something different. HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG is this type of movie. The name Jennifer Connelly (Phenomena, The Labyrinth, Requiem For A Dream, Dark City) was what drew me to this tragic tale of stubborn indignation and desolating pride. She is a wonderful ...

Tuck Everlasting - near to novel in many ways
I purchased this DVD for my class to view after reading the novel. It is well-acted and was near the novel. The main character in the novel, however is 10 and Alexis is a young teen in the movie. I would recommend it as it provokes thought about eternal life on earth.

Without a Clue. really.
I love this movie, but I didn't stop to think about the formatting. I wanted it in widescreen, not 4:3. My fault entirely. Without a clue -- really.

Moses DVD with Ben Kingsley--the best yet.
While in places it is not exactly Biblical, this (in my opinion) is the best version I have yet seen of this ageless story--no offense to Charlton Hesston fans. I watch this over, and over, and over...

Sexy Beast166 reviews
Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley

20th Century Fox, 2002

Very Good in an Unexpected Way
I ordered this movie based on a friend's recommendation when I said I enjoyed another excellent UK crime thriller, Layer Cake. By comparison, Sexy Beast is a very different film from Layer Cake. It feels perfectly European (not American) in terms of its careful, methodical pacing and gradually building tension. I never knew what would happen next in this film, and I loved that. I was on the ...

First Flight
This is a review of the DVD Elegy, although I also comment on the reviews. I've been reading Amazon reviews for about a dozen years now for all types of products and for any collection of reviews of a story told in any medium, I think the reviews of this product, the DVD Elegy, are the most interesting. Read them. This Elegy DVD in sum, including the commentary, I rate at four stars. ...

Playing Shakespeare21 reviews
John Barton, David Suchet

Athena, 2009

Not just for actors only
I am certainly not an actor, but I do have more than a passing interest in Shakespeare (as a teacher, audience member, and reader), so although this series would seem to be of only specialist interest, I was pleased to find that I was engaged throughout, gleaning many excellent insights into Shakespeare from the performance tradition. Moreover, as a teacher, I found that a performance-based ...
