A Chilling Version Of A Shakespeare Classic
When it comes to updates of the Shakespeare plays , Richard III is probably the best of the lot. While it might seem like an unusual concept to take the classic play of deceit, betrayal, seduction, and cold-blooded murder out of the 1400's and into an alternate history 1930's version of England, the cast and production designs make that concept seem not only believable but so realistic you might ...

"Enchanted", delightful fantasy
I bought this originally in VHS. Loved it so that I bought it on DVD. What a great movie for ALL ages. I watch it with my two grandaughters and watch it even alone. Absolutely a must see to transport you to a place where witches really exist. Luke was adorable and so lucky to have a wonderful grandmother to take care of him. She had her own experience with a witch when she was a child. Anjelica ...

Entertaining!
There are three DVD's in this package and I wished that the story would have never ended. I would have loved to have had more to watch! (The one DVD is of the making of the series.) The directors and screen writers did an excellant job with this movie. It was made for TV, so there are breaks in the movie but this can be useful if you want to watch it over several days. Enjoy it.

Truly Madly Deeply in Love with this film
There are So many romantic comedies made, why can't they be as creative, as touching, realistic and human as this one. The gist of the story you may know, Nina the main character is incredibly heartbroken after the death of her beloved Jamie. She finds her life difficult to manage and her grief is palpable. One day without her knowledge Jamie returns as a ghost. At first she is overwhelmed and ...

Wonderful television
If you are looking for a quality set of movies that are truely worthwhile to watch, you have found it in this set! All of these movies are wonderful and very well acted. I can't say enough good about them. It bothers me to see people review these disks without even watching them all, it does no justice to anyone who might like to buy this set!

Miss Potter
My daughter invited me over for lunch and to view Miss Potter. It was a special time for us. The scenery was delightful as was the movie. Renee's special smile warmed my heart. Our time spent together was truly a travel back in time for us. Very relaxing. Great acting. Great experience. I came home went on Amazon and now, at my desire I can relive the experience. Yes, buy and enjoy Don't ...

The Best Thing You'll ever watch
Some have suggested that "The Singing Detective" is the greatest production ever done for television; I could not even suggest a close number two! I originally was inspired to look at The Singing Detective because I enjoyed the "Maigret" series so much. I thought that TSD was in somewhat the same jaundra. Well, I was plesently surprised. It's not a `Mystery' but a psychodrama of the highest ...

Clear transfer and great story....
Michael Palin of Monty Python and 'Fish Called Wanda' fame teams up with Maggie Smith ('Prime of Miss Jean Brodie', 'Room With a View', 'Gosford Park') to form one of the most eccentric married couples in English history. To top it off, the couple live with her mother played by the acctress who portrays the eccentric female vestry member (always knitting and creating strange kitchen concoctions) ...

New is not always bad.
I too prefer this version. But I am odd-man out because I never loved the original screen adaptation. Perhaps because although full of great talents, it failed to make me care about the characters. I did love the "making of" footage on the collector's edition I bought, but the film never impressed me. Like many of the other reviewers I have a great deal of respect for Julie Christie as an ...

Picked up from the Discount bin
I picked up this movie from a discount bin because it had a picture of Christina Richie on it. She has always intrigued me. I was stunned to find a movie of substance and deep emotional material. Late the other night, I was tired, but not enough to sleep, so I popped Prozac Nation into my DVD player and watched. I wondered, why didn't I know more about this movie which had such talented actors ...

No One Tells it Like Simon Schama
There is no one quite like Simon Schama. He makes the history of Britain coherent, understandable, and unique, and he has the ability to help the viewer comprehend the great achievements of Britain while being honest, humorous, informative, clear and articulate in the presentation. His stories and visuals are very well chosen. He is one of only a few presenters of history in video - Bronowski ...

Two great actresses playing two disturbed sisters...WOW!!!
HILARY AND JACKIE is still one of the most disturbing and unsettling pieces of film that I have ever seen! From the very beginning of the film there is a looming foreboding and an uncomfortable uneasiness that follows through every frame in this account of the lives of sisters Hilary and Jackie Du Pre. Rachel Griffiths and Emily Watson are each disturbingly terrific and I am always amazed at ...

Come on critics, lighten up. This movie is pure fun. I love it as much in my 40's as I did in my 20's. It may not be hip enough for later generations, but if you came of age in the 80's - it should remind you of yourself, and make you smile. Yes, Ione is stunningly beautiful, and the direction is awesomely tailored to capitalize on that fact. Highly stylish. There is a catchy ...

Delightful Romantic Comedy/Mystery
I shall be brief. I agree with the other reviewers here who have given this lighthearted series 5 stars. The main characters, Oliver, a redundant Professor of Comparative Religions, and Diane, a policewoman forced to take a leave of absence after asking sticky questions about her Superintendent's possible shady financial dealings (the late Alan Bates and Sinead Cusack play Oliver and Diane), are ...
