Bedazzled106 reviews
Peter Cook, Dudley Moore

20th Century Fox, 2007

Thank you!
Thank you for making the original Cook/Moore "Bedazzled" available in DVD. I watched this movie for the first time in a small town South Carolina drive-in when I was sixteen years old. I had never seen anything like it! This was filmed over forty years ago and I've still never seen anything like it. "Bedazzled" earns shelf-space with a handful of other keepers.

Absolutely Fabulous - Complete Series 1-342 reviews
Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley

BBC Warner, 2005

"Down Right FUNNY!"
This "Absolutely Fabulous" boxset contains the bulk of the episodes from the show's first three years on the air. The last two episodes entitled "The Last Shout" is not on this set and aired in late 1996. However, if you want to begin your "Ab Fab" collection this is where to start. Not only are these episodes funny and hilarious, they feature the best in the "Absolutely Fabulous" shows. The ...

My wife just turned 30 and had wanted some things from her youth. This was one of her favorite movies so I bought it for her. It came in quickly and was in excellent condition.

Two for the Road107 reviews
Audrey Hepburn, Albert Finney

20th Century Fox, 2005

Movie "Two for the Road"
This movie "Two for the Road" has been a favorite of mine since it came out. It is a little different to watch as it is filmed as they do often in France, going back and forth with sequences which can be a bit confusing. Neverless, it is really a wonderful, fun movie. Audrey Hepburn is delightful as always and Albert Finney is very good, too. Their love story when they first find each other is ...

Miramax, 2002

A Beautiful Mind at the end of the road
This is a beautiful movie though not especially enlightening regarding Murdoch's philosophy at all. Rather it is a romp through her life with John from their meeting and through flashbacks and returns a comparison of their lives together then and the present of the film. It would be a little too risqué to play for students in class though I suppose everything was meant to portray the character of ...

Terry Pratchett's Discworld Collection (Wyrd Sisters / Soul Music)14 reviews
Christopher Lee, Jane Horrocks

Acorn Media, 2008

Another great DiscWorld DVD story by Terry Pratchett
I love this series of DisWorld books by Terry Pratchett. And this English made DVD is a hoot to watch the character brought to life. I bought one book just to see what they were about and I love the story line so much I went out and bought all the DiscWorld series books and DVDs I could. DiscWorld is a make believe world of a giant sea turtle, with four elephants on it's back, with a large ...

The House of Mirth121 reviews
Eleanor Bron, Terry Kinney

Sony Pictures, 2001

A study in wrong choices
The film is represents the characters and concepts of the book fairly well. The protagonist, Lily, seems unable to make rational decisions, though she is reasonably intelligent. She's hampered by the conventions of her time as well as the shallow ideas inculcated by her mother. She's generally valued for her beauty and uses that as currency for entre into the level of society she's been taught to ...

Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of the Baskervilles14 reviews
Ian Richardson, Donald Churchill

Image Entertainment, 1999

Probably the best
With the exception of the cheesy merry-go-round dog attack at the beginning of this TV movie, this version of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" is superb. Ian Richardson plays Holmes with a flair that matches the great Jeremy Brett. It's a shame that Richardson's Holmes is only captured in one other occasion on film. ("The Sign of Four") In contrast, it's also a shame that "Hound" is probably the ...

Women in Love34 reviews
Alan Bates, Oliver Reed

MGM (Video & DVD), 2003

WOMEN IN LOVE
Very seldom has a movie been such a faithful adaptation from the book it was based on. That is the case of WOMEN IN LOVE,a wonderful and perfect movie with settings, performances, and plot that are worth seeing. As far as its plot is concerned, WOMEN IN LOVE is a philosophical experiment on what love actually is and on the role it plays in human life. Gudrun and Ursula Brangwen, marvelously played ...

The Wolf Speaks
What's it all about? For who, is the question. Caine plays the architypical tomcat who takes the yearning for sexual conquest and utter freedom from commitment to it's farthest yet most logical conclusion in this very entertaining drama/comedy that has the unique feature of having a main character often directly address the viewers even as other characters on the screen casually go about their ...

Terry Pratchett's Discworld - Wyrd Sisters56 reviews
Christopher Lee, Jane Horrocks

Acorn Media, 2001

Animated Discworld
A delightful visit to the Discworld, where Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and their young friend Magrat meet someone who would remind a real world person of Hamlet (if the Shakespeare type character had finished writing it) with a nod to Tale of Two Cities and other classics. Even the demon conjured in the laundry shed is funny. Beautiful animation, many famous voices. Highly recommended.

Sundance Channel Home Entertainment, 2005

Terribly English...spit-spot,chin up Period drama that the actors make excel
Honestly, I don't think that there is anything terrifically original or different about Lucinda Coxon's screenplay THE HEART OF ME. 1936,London.Rickie is married to Madeleine. It is socially a good match, but Rickie loves Madeleine's "Bohemian " sister,Dinah. An affair begins and no one wins...all get hurt.Chin up...press on,don't you know...ENGLISH!(I am UK descent, so I know!) BUT...the acting ...

Peter Cook, Dudley Moore

20th Century Fox, 2008

Desperation that leads to hilarity
This remake was made back in 2000, and I should have watched it in the theaters because it's very VERY hilarious! Brendan Fraser plays Elliot Richards, a man who doesn't have the nerve to ask a woman out but is desperate in doing so. That's when the Devil comes in. Played by Elizabeth Hurley, the Devil gives him seven wishes, but only if Elliot trades his soul in return. And as Elliot makes his ...
