History well told...
As other reviewers' have stated, this film about Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton and John Hanning Speke, and their explorations in search of the source of the Nile, their troubled relationship and their ultimate estrangement, ending tragically in Speke's controversial death, (suicide or a mere hunting accident) has been certainly underrated. As both men lived extraordinary lives, a film ...

a cause for respect learned a long time ago
It has been a long time since I have seen this. But I remember the effect it had on me. It made me respect my teachers even more. Folks seem to forget about teachers as heroes. This movie as others have written. is funny but still rings true today. A simpler time when teachers DIDNT have to carry concealed or wear body armor.

Dances with Wolves (Full Screen Theatrical Edition)247 reviews

Excellent - better than the original
Excellent DVD that fills in gaps left by the original movie. Why was the fort abandoned? Where did everyone go? Why was Stands With Fist mourning? A long movie, but well worth it.

Goofy
I heard that this remake was terrible, but finally caught it on TV and found myself laughing more than most comedies. I loved Kidman and Midler's neurotic characterizations. A lot of the jokes/cuts were cheap but still worked in the context of a low comedy that was just fun and seemed not to pretend to be much more. Okay, sure, what a risk to remake an iconic serious "horror" film and social ...

Brilliant
This was an amazing piece of cinema. Soundtrack, acting, and cinematography was wonderful. It is a bit dated now, but otherwise well done. It never tries to justify what these people do and how they live, but merely make us understand why they do it, and maybe have some sympathy as well. They treat life like ride and they have to face the consequences: it shows we eventually have to take ...

Detective Story (1951)21 reviews
Kirk Douglas, Eleanor Parker

Paramount, 2005

Detective Story
Before "Homicide" or "Hill Street Blues" came this gritty, hard-hitting cop drama based on Sidney Kingsley's play. Honed to tense perfection by Wyler, the film is a showcase for fine, colorful ensemble acting by William Bendix (as the no-nonsense lieutenant), Lee Grant (reprising her role as a mousy shoplifter), Bert Freed (as McLeod's sensitive partner), and Joseph Wiseman (as a hilariously ...

Lawyers Can Be Human
A very good comedy showing the Redford capacity to look silly, and to do it on purpose. he was wonderfully complemented by a subdued and understated Debra Winger who was warm and three diminsional, and often the straight man to the redford antics. We also discovered that darryl Hannah is not really very sexy, although that was her part. She was ouclassed even by the little girl. I highly ...

Crazy for Crazies
I've seen this DVD and I have no idea what these guys are talking about. Clearly, they haven't seen this movie. There is no 27 minute interview with Jay Bilas and I find it counterproductive to be debating the merits of Jay Bilas' basketball opinions. Instead, we should be talking about what a great and entertaining film this is. It seamlessly chronicles the history of a storied program with ...

With Power Comes Silly Hairstyles
Another of the Creature Feature movies that takes old movies and comes up with a new plot for the old title. This one concerns the primitive living conditions of the human survivors after civilization is destroyed by violent storms. Despite the harsh conditions and the struggle to survive, the teenagers seem to have plenty of leisure time to plan rebellion and break the rules. After one ...
