A little odd, but definitely worth peeking at!
I found this quirky little gem at a local video store that specializes in foreign, independent, and classic films. Having exhausted much of the anime and Far East categories, I decided to give this one a chance, even though I had looked over it dozens of times before. I'm a huge fan of animation in all its forms, so when this piece began, I was bombarded by awkward, bulky CGI images playing ...

He's a woman? mistake? No, it's not...
If you love Hong Kong movie pacing, you will enjoy this romantic comedy. Sam, a music producer and Rose, a popular singer, love each other and everybody knows it. Although they live in different flats in a same building, secretly their rooms are connected. Actually there is a secret door on the floor of Sam's room leading to Rose's room by a small staircase. Also in the story is, Wing, a ...

Don't expect an action movie and you're in for a treat
Throw Down is a real crowd-pleaser despite being more interested in the quirky characters than the judo bouts in the film. Johnnie To's tribute to Kurosawa and filled with references to Sugata Sanshiro (far more than the one that To admits to), it actually feels more like a Hong Kong version of Britcom Black Books, with Luis Koo's drunken former judo prodigy staggering his way from scam to scam ...

The other good entry in the WII Chan Series
WWII brought out many phobias including anti-semitism, distrust of those of Oriental descent (the infamous story of Japanese/Americans sent to concentration camps in California was a national disgrace). The Chan series during this period adhered to the sleuth working for the government to ease any qualms the movie public may have had. Fox had dropped the series in fear of losing money, low-budget ...

Fans of Peter Chung's animation, along with Greek and Alexander the Great history buffs will love this
Reign the Conqueror is an animation tour de force; as the graphic novel Watchmen proved comics were not just for children, this epic series does the same for animation. Reign the Conqueror is the story of Alexander the Great told in a unique manner with an extremely deep and layered plot presented in the most stylized and creative animation seen in ages. A myriad of elements from Greek history ...

Great Film & Story
I dont know why some people have low comment on this film. maybe bcoz they have watch Men In Black before this film. Well i tell you what, its way to different. But i would say that the story, casting & effects we're great (but not the fighting scenes and martial arts), but still this film for me deserves a 5 star rating for its exceptional story and the kung-fu flicts. Awwww!

Playing family values
A movie of China's new rich having made it to Thailand for fulfilling sex dreams of rather adultery than new expertise, is embedded from a notion that sexual freedom had not been exactly synonymous to happiness achievable but a process itself of exercising this freedom . As understood, boundaries of sexual gratification outside wedlock acceptable in some cultures sometimes differ from ...

I havn't seen any of the other Young and Dangerous movies, but Born to be King is successful as a standalone film (apparently this is the 6th, in addition to there being two prequels), though it probably would be more enjoyable to have greater familiarity with the background stories. **Plot Summary** Born to be King has a number of sub-plots, but is centered around a Taiwanese/Chinese/Hong Kong ...

Big Bullet Delivers with Big Thrills.
In Benny Chan's Big Bullet, Lau Ching Wan is a hard-boiled cop demoted to the emergency unit after punching a jackass superior. Lau ends up being in charge of four cops who eventually realize that he's an outstanding policeman. The group becomes an excellent team by following Lau's leads and they go to war with two psychotic drug-lords. This action packed film sports an awesome supporting ...

Here We Go Again.
Here we go again with another stick of Hong Kong dynamite. Undercover cop, Coke (Lau Ching Wan) and Triad Leader, Chiu (Francis Ng) are killed by good cop, Huang (Anthony Wong) in a bust gone bad. Years later, the sons of the dead men want revenge against Huang, who has become one of the best detectives on the force. Coke's son, 7-Up (Raymond Wong) is making a great name for himself as a ...

Entertaining flick, but DVD is so-so
A hip, modern Hong Kong flick inspired by Mission:Impossible (and more fun), that manages to be big, flashy, and entertaining. Fast-paced action, excellent editing, cool stunts, and energetic direction make it feel like a slick, animated Japanese cartoon. Particularly noteable is Jordan Chan in the film, who does much of the movie's cool fights, dodging, and running. Takeshi Kaneshiro, however, ...
