Tomorrow Never Dies (Special Edition)249 reviews
Pierce Brosnan, Jonathan Pryce

MGM (Video & DVD), 2002

Classic Bond
Traumatised by my ghasty experience of watching 'Casino Roayle', I decided to cheer myself up by watching a really good Bond movie. I never really cared that much for Pierce Brosnan by comparison with my favourite Bond, Roger Moore, but compared with the dreary nonentity in 'Casino Royale' Brosnan is a prince among men. This film has everything you want in a Bond movie. Among the many ...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon1030 reviews
Chang Chen, Chow Yun-Fat

Sony Pictures, 2001

Very accessible with a broad appeal, deeply influential in bringing asian style to western films. . .. . .
Now, I know a lot of people don't love this movie. But hear me out before you disagree. I acknowledge that this film was made with a western audience in mind. That means that as a typical wuxia film it is watered-down by comparison. It was also apparent that they tried to do a lot with the script, probably too much, so as to please the arthouse crowd. Because of those things I can't review it ...

Sunshine [Blu-ray]243 reviews
Cliff Curtis, Chipo Chung

20th Century Fox, 2008

Philosophical and visually arresting - great film for a small crowd
I think one of my friend's reaction best sums up the mainstream perspective: bubble-gum in mouth, she yawned several times throughout the movie, and ended with "that was kinda boring sorry" . Well, it was expected. This is no Star Wars, Alien, or Armageddon. Those were geared toward entertainment; this movie is brain food imo. It caters to the crowd that likes the immersive experience rather than ...

Memoirs of a Geisha (Single Disc Version)326 reviews
Ziyi Zhang, Suzuka Ohgo

Sony Pictures, 2007

Passionate reworking of the book
"Memoirs of a Geisha" both book and film, should be one of those films I should love to hate but don't. Instead, I found myself captivated by the lush world, especially that brought to the big screen. Despite the surpring little multi-culture event that went on with the movie, it is just as wondrous and passionate as the book, with more inclination toward the "fairy tale" side of things. Which, ...

Tomorrow Never Dies6 reviews
Joe Don Baker, Pierce Brosnan

MGM (Video & DVD), 2007

Tomorrow Never Dies
I have never been disappointed with a James Bond movie and this one is no different. I think Pierce Brosnan is great as James Bond and I loved this movie. One of the parts that I really thought was cool was his BMW. The car chase in the parking garage was awesome!! This is one of my favorite Bond movies.

Far North5 reviews
Sean Bean, Michelle Yeoh

IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT, 2008

A Concerto for Trio and Arctic Tundra
FAR NORTH is a bleak, disturbing story about isolation, relationships and revenge. Director Asif Kapadia adapted this minimal dialogue screenplay with Tim Miller based on the story 'True North' by Sara Maitland, and even with the strong trio of actors, have managed to maintain the main character as the vast, natural, incomprehensibly difficult ice seas of the northern cap of the globe. The film ...

The Weinstein Company, 2008

Is this the same movie as Tai Chi Master?
I enjoyed this move a lot, very entertaining. I tried to rent Tai Chi Master, and was told it had been re-released as Twin Warrior? Now I see that the reviews for the two movies are intermingled here on Amazon...so is are they the same movie?

The Soong Sisters10 reviews
Maggie Cheung, Michelle Yeoh

A History Lesson Nicely Packaged - Is it Simulacra?
Provocative and moving are few of the words that come to mind after having viewed this movie. As a short synopsis, The Soong sisters are a troika of daughters of Charlie Soong. Soong created and nurtured a political dynasty in China. The Dynasty, at least as far as the movie is concerned is nothing short of having reached the highest levels of power. As mentioned previously, this movie follows ...

Butterfly Sword (Special Edition)22 reviews
Michelle Yeoh, Jimmy Lin

Tai Seng, 2004

EQ-Michelle Fan
It is a great martial arts movie. The story line is a little weak but the choreography on swordsplay and martial arts is excellent. Michelle Yeoh is outstanding as always with her grace, acrobatic style and skill in martial arts. A worthwhile DVD collection if you are a martial arts fan.

Magnificent Warriors10 reviews
Michelle Yeoh, Richard Ng

20th Century Fox, 2003

Mrs. Indiana Jones
Possibly no female action heroine has come closer to achieving Bruce Lee status than Michelle Yeoh. And this is inronic, since she never had any martial arts training until she began her movie career. Almost nobody trained in martial arts specifically for one movie goes on to make more, much less achieve the status of martial arts star, but Michelle Yeoh is a pioneer in that respect. This 1987 ...

Silver Hawk13 reviews
Michelle Yeoh, Richie Ren

Universal Studios, 2005

KILLER FILM!
If you enjoy beautiful asian women, action, and as good as Hollywood filmmaking... this film is for you! A breath of fresh air. A ton of fun without going cheese. The acting was surprisingly right on the money. Get this movie if you like Seagal, Van Damme, Bruce Lee, etc., but without much of the sympathy, vengeance filled plots that are the same ol' same ol'. Chinawood is here to stay.

Supercop40 reviews
Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh

Dimension, 1998

Vintage Chan--and Chan's the Man
In this great action film, Jackie Chan plays an undercover Hong Kong cop with attitude. He's sent to Communist China on a joint operation to break a drug smuggling ring. The chief cop he's supposed to work with is a gorgeous young woman (Michelle Khan). She mistakes his breezy attitude for softness and he has to duke it out with the martial arts instructor of the Beijing police academy. The ...

The Heroic Trio43 reviews
Michelle Yeoh, Anita Mui

Miramax, 2002

Cheesy Fun!
Forget Batman, this is the way a super-hero movie should be done. Incredible imagery (some shots will take your breath away) prevails in a film genre that traditionally should not look as good as this does. There is also a plot (underground demon lord stealing babies to find an heir) and Anita Mui sings, too... what more could want? A warning the film is gritty violent, and contains a scene with ...

Royal Warriors8 reviews
Michelle Yeoh, Michael Wong

20th Century Fox, 2004

Amazing
ROYAL WARRIORS is simply one of the best action movies ever made. It features the bone-crunchingly brutal style of Hong Kong choreography that was perfected in the 80's following the renaissance initiated by Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan, and it has rarely looked better than it does in this movie. This is text book action cinema, and Michelle Yeoh is remarkable.
