Bulldog Drummond's Secret Police1 review
John Howard, Heather Angel

Alpha Video, 2003

Great "B" Series Fun!
Bulldog Drummond films date all the way back to the silent era. While the two films with Ronald Colman are considered to be the best by many critics, the most fun and entertaining films are surely the "B" films with John Howard in the role of Hugh Drummond. The "B" series had cute and lovely Heather Angel as Hugh's fun bride-to-be, Phyllis Clavering. E.E. Clive was great as Bulldog's valet, ...

WGBH BOSTON, 2003

Welcome to the Jazz Age
Dame Diana Rigg, best known as thoroughly independent Emma Peel of THE AVENGERS, stars here as Adela Bradley, a thoroughly idenpendent woman of the '20's. Adela has been married but has managed to 'correct the error', and now has embraced the new study of psychology applying it to solve the various crimes that seem to happen around her. Adela has been invited to her god-daughter, Eleanor's ...

Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking29 reviews
Rupert Everett, Nicholas Palliser

BBC Warner, 2005

hoping for some sort of series
i really enjoyed this movie. i do love the jeremy brett films, but they're still.... um... decent i guess is the word. i don't think i ever even heard the word RAPE in the brett series. this was darker, more outgoing with a few twists-but i did feel that since the beginning, the writer wanted you to be part of solving it, and gave the audience clues. i really hope for more movies spark from this ...

Sharpe's Eagle12 reviews
Sean Bean, Brian Cox

Bfs Entertainment, 2000

My Favorite TV Series
I own the entire Sharpe series on VHS but this is the only episode I have on DVD, and it is one of the best. (Incidentally, I don't understand all the complaining about the quality of the DVD and the lack of grandiose battle scenes--I have no complaints with either the quality of the DVD or the fact that the battles are on a relatively small scale. As to the last, this was a TV series, after ...

Diana Rigg is superb as Mrs. Bradley, the 1920's liberated society woman who solves crimes with the assistance of her chauffeur. Costumes are true to period.

Henry Fielding's Tom Jones31 reviews
Matt Bardock, David Baukham

A&E Home Video, 2002

I love it! This is the best Tom Jones.
I think that "Tom Jones" is my favorite movie. I must have seen the Albert Finney version (at least) a hundred times. I thought that it was impossible to improve on this wonderful movie. BUT I LIKE THIS VERSION EVEN MORE! Max Beesley is as good a Tom as Finney. I loved Susannah York, but Samantha Morton is even more endearing. The one character from the original movie who cannot be improved ...

Different For Girls40 reviews
Steven Mackintosh, Rupert Graves

Fox Lorber, 2000

Different for Girls is good for everyone
This is a film from 1996 but don't let that put you off. It is standing the test of time. It is about Kim, a post operative trans-sexual and Paul, his/her mate from school. Karl/Kim was bullied at school for being gay, in reality he was a she in a male body. Paul protected him. We see that in flashback. Then Paul sees Kim/Karl and the penny drops for Paul...they know each other, but ...

Domestic dispute: Bride vs. Frankenstein
Can a sequel outdo the original? Audiences, critics, and (more importantly) many of my friends seem to think so. And they all have a solid case. The Bride of Frankenstein is a remarkable continuation of the previous masterpiece. It opens with a haunting murder scene. The visual setup is completely electrifying. Karloff still has his commanding presence. The entire cast does an ...
