peaceful warrior
Good movie, dark at times, hard to follow at times, my students like it, bought it for a motivation movie for advisory students

Tropic Thunder (Unrated Director's Cut + BD Live) [Blu-ray]323 reviews

Dreamworks Video, 2008

Something to offend everyone
A movie that is tasteless, offensive, juvenile and howlingly funny. Actually quite daring in what it is trying to do - and often pulls off successfully. After renting the film somewhat reluctantly, due to the scathing press reviews, we immediately decided that this was a keeper and ordered it. Having now seen it a number of times, we have no regrets. Robery Downey, Jr. is amazing!

The Prince of Tides80 reviews
Barbra Streisand, Nick Nolte

Sony Pictures, 2001

Loved the book more, but...
I LOVED the book and bought this as VHS about 3 times (kept wearing it out) until I got it on DVD. It gets the basic gist of Conroy's book and is well done.

Paris, Je T'Aime (Paris, I Love You)105 reviews
Natalie Portman, Elijah Wood

First Look Pictures, 2007

C'est Magnifique
This review is dedicated to mon amie Elizabeth. This is a really good film (especially if you are studying French). It is an interesting series of short (5-10 minute) stories that all take place in Paris. Unfortunately, some (like the brutal beating at the subway) are on the stupid side. But others are sweet and romantic. (Such as where the ghost of Oscar Wilde helps save the love of a ...

Rich Man, Poor Man: The Complete Collection18 reviews
Peter Strauss, Nick Nolte

A&E HOME VIDEO, 2010

A key character in this series
I'm very happy to have found this DVD. Turns out I could have ordered it before as I'm in Japan (Region 2, like UK). This was a very 1970s-era show, a great time for TV and movies, still mostly pre-political correct and pre-formula. If you don't know the difference between then and now on those terms, then you're watching without thinking. I like everything others have said about this series, ...

Sweeping Tribute to the Human Spirit
Back in the mid-1990s, if you lived in the Western Hemisphere--or in Europe--there's a good chance you knew nothing of the genocide taking place in Rwanda on the African continent. (I'm guilty as charged, and pride myself on allegedly being "well informed.") Which is what makes the award-winning film HOTEL RWANDA all the more compelling, as it tells a heart-wrenching story about one man's ...

The Thin Red Line (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]3 reviews
James Caviezel, Sean Penn

IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT, 2010

I know it's not out yet, the five stars are for the film itself, heck, I'd give it TEN stars
The Thin Red Line released on blu-ray by Criterion is simply the most wonderful news I've recieved this week, one of my all-time favorite motion pictures, a true work of visual, poetic, and contemplative art, focusing like only Terrence Malick can on the human condition and our world's nature, in this film set against war and it's spirit-devastating consecuences, in a masterpiece that bursts with ...

Hulk (Widescreen 2-Disc Special Edition)752 reviews
Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly

Universal Studios, 2007

It's actually pretty great
I actually really like Ang Lee's "Hulk". I find it fun, fast paced, imaginative and generally well acted. I really enjoyed the editing and the comic book-like transitions, it added a visual layer to the film that most comic book adaptations are missing. While it's not totally perfect: the plot can be a bit aimless and very little of the original story is included; it's still an above average ...

The Deep41 reviews
Jacqueline Bisset, Nick Nolte

Sony Pictures, 1999

A classic for anyone that likes diving
"The Deep" was one of the reasons I started diving back in the 80's. Since then I have bought this movie in VHS, DVD and now Blu-Ray. The Dlu-Ray edition is worth the price, with an amazing image quality and nice extras. A must for anyone who loves diving, adventure or Jaqueline Bisset...

The Thin Red Line931 reviews
James Caviezel, Sean Penn

20th Century Fox, 2002

An amazing film
This is a fantastic film that many people have put down, and while I see where they're coming from, I really believe that they're missing the point of the movie. I remember one of my friends was lucky enough to see this film in theatres (I didn't get the oppertunity to) and he said he walked out half way through, however he did say that he loved Saving Private Ryan, which every one always seems ...

There's a Lesson For Us All
After seeing this movie I now appreciate my own high school days even though I hated the experience at the time. Like this movie alcohol & drug abuse were in abundance at Starmount High. We also had student pranks too. But never anything serious enough to call on the local police to handle. And no one ever brought guns to school that I knew of. It makes me glad to be raised in small town America ...

Cape Fear111 reviews
Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte

Universal Studios Home Entertainment, 2005

Martin Scorcese's Cape Fear is Force Majeure
I disagree with the editors that the remake, which is arguably superior in every way to the original, is not even worth a look. No disrespect intended to Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum who were both great actors who delivered solid performances in the original, but I prefer the 1991 version. For her role as Danielle Bowden, Lewis was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. ...

Lorenzo's Oil57 reviews
Nick Nolte, Susan Sarandon

Universal Studios

The Critics of This Movie Are Ignorant
Two of the people who gave this movie a bad review (one star) said that the movie was not factual, and even suggested that the oil doesn't work in most ALD patients. I did a web search of only .edu websites and found that the two reviewers are wrong. Lorenzo's oil only works in about 2/3 of ALD patients, that's true. And it only works if those patients start taking the oil *before* the onset of ...
