Reds (25th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]111 reviews
R.G. Armstrong, Roger Baldwin

Paramount, 2008

Magnificent achievement
While this is ostensibly about the Russian Revolution, it is really about unbounded youthful enthusiasm and the ultimate brick wall it hits when experience sets in. Ignorance, youth and over-confidence are a lethal combination. Made shortly after the similar youthful outburts of the 1960s, the movie could easily have used that backdrop for the same purpose. The revolution began with high ...

El Dorado83 reviews
John Wayne, Robert Mitchum

Paramount, 2000

"You tryin' to tell me I'm in the same boat as you were!?" --Wayne to Mitchum
"They laughed at him, Mississippi. That'll make the difference." -- Wayne to Caan regarding Mitchum Director Howard Hawks once again hooked up with John Wayne to revisit the moral codes and deep loyalty of good men to others who live by this code. As in nearly all films made by this great director, the theme of women being the downfall of good men who still cannot live without them remains ...

White Lightning30 reviews
Burt Reynolds, Jennifer Billingsley

MGM (Video & DVD), 2003

A very fun movie
Ya know,I get so sick and tired of every smart aleck fast talking yankee thinking its their mission in life to trash anything and everything that I happen, and have a God given right to enjoy. If you dont like this film, fine, thats your right. But dont get your nose bent out of shape just because I do! The terms hillbilly and redneck are just as racist as all the other words that I dont use (but ...

Where the Buffalo Roam83 reviews
Peter Boyle, Bill Murray

Universal Studios, 2005

Bill Murry is Hunter S Thompson
I've watched and own both Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Where the Buffalo Roam and both of them are excellent movies about the amazing gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson. However, Bill Murry definitely did a better job at portraying a more realistic Hunter S. Thompson, rather than a more entertaining version done by Mr. Depp. Either way both of the movies are a must buy!

Heaven Can Wait38 reviews
Warren Beatty, Julie Christie

Paramount Pictures, 1999

charmingly funny
"Heaven Can Wait" is a perfect film - it's funny, poignant, has a couple of unexpected plot twists, features Warren Beatty at his most sincere and beautiful - a wonderful investment of time and energy.

Purgatory81 reviews
Sam Shepard, Eric Roberts

Turner Home Ent, 2005

more than a western
purgatory is somewhat of a surprise. i am a fan of westerns, but you don't have to like cowboy pictures to appreciate this excellent made for t.v. movie. like most good westerns, purgatory is about far more than gun fights in the wild west. it is a love story, a tale of good vs evil, and a lesson on the thin line that often separates right from wrong. all of the actors give first rate ...

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (Two-Disc Special Edition)92 reviews
James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson

Warner Home Video, 2006

AN UNDERAPPRECIATED MASTERPIECE... BUT AN EDITING BLUNDER!
As a film teacher and Peckinpah scholar, I had put together my own cut of this film in the early 90's compiled from several video versions (and the TV version), and showed it in a special class devoted to the film. As someone who is probably somewhat an expert on this film, I'd like to make a few important points about the two versions included here in this set. First, the Turner cut ...

The Shadow Riders29 reviews
Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott

Sony Pictures, 2008

The way a western should be!
I loved westerns since I was a kid. John Wayne was king for me when it came to the western genre. I believe two new stars have risen on the frontier; Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott. They both have made several movies and everyone of them John Wayne would watch, if he could, and enjoy.

Race With the Devil86 reviews
R.G. Armstrong, Wes Bishop

Starz / Anchor Bay, 2005

Wonderful thriller of a movie!! The stuff nightmares are made of!!
I first saw this movie DECADES ago in the middle of the night on T.V and it scared the crap outta me!! I've loved it ever since!! The movie ending with a circle of flames surrounding the terrified family in their RV while the wicked and relentless Satan worshippers methodically position themselves to finally murder their elusive prey was a frighteningly nightmarish scene!!This movie is the ...

Children of the Corn112 reviews
Peter Horton, Linda Hamilton

Starz / Anchor Bay, 2001

Still Creepy After 24 Years
I'm 16 years old and I love Children of the Corn, it's creepy without being gory. The dvd quality is great and the special features are fun. It was really interesting seeing John Franklin and Courtney Gains in the documentary for the 20th anniversary... they both look just as they were and it's cool hearing about their experiences on set, which is continued in the commentary. Great dvd, it's a ...

Major Dundee (The Extended Version)65 reviews
Charlton Heston, Richard Harris

Sony Pictures, 2005

A personal revenge, miles away from home that has nothing to do with supposed ideals !
Amos Dundee (Charlton Heston) is an outlaw officer of the Army of the United States who - after the bloody massacre by Apache Indians - decides - against all the odds - to search and annihilate the Apache leader no matter how he has to spent, travel or sweat. So he breaks the rules and gathers a singular battalion, composed by drifters, drunks, renegades, Confederate prisoners and even a horse ...

Lone Wolf McQuade48 reviews
Chuck Norris, David Carradine

MGM (Video & DVD), 2001

Beware Of Midgets With Golden Guns!
Another fabulous film inspired by Sid the Elf. You must check them out if you haven't already! I've been a Norris Fan for quite some time, yet I haven't seen all of his movies since he's got over 500 in his library. So I've been catching up on my Chia-Chuck lately, hitting the good & the bad. This movie is quite good! First of all it has a midget in the movie. And it's not your usual ...

The Ballad of Cable Hogue36 reviews
Jason Robards, Stella Stevens

Warner Home Video, 2006

Thirsty for a good western? Here it is.
This is a great western. Nontraditional? Yes, but in a good way. The story is a quick tale of revenge and regret. A window into how a man's soul can be spoiled be hate and greed. All in all, not a bad example of the 60s western. I would suggest everyone see this one.

Ride the High Country42 reviews
John Anderson, R.G. Armstrong

Warner Home Video, 2006

On of the 5 Best Westerns (Color) ever made...
This is an essential film among the westerns. It deserves the reputation it has, among western film lovers, Peckinpah fans, Randolph Scott admirers, and cult film enthusiasts (it is considered a cult film because, while virtually ignored upon initial release, it's reputation has grown in stature immensely over the years). It is one of those rare films that gets even better the more you see it. ...

The Best of Times17 reviews
Robin Williams, Kurt Russell

Lions Gate, 1999

best of times is good times!
Best of Times is a overlooked classic from the 80"s! Kurt Russell is great as the old hero football star who winds up in a car repair shop and Robin Williams in his best role ever as the pathetic bank manager who's life is out of control and both team up to relive their youth by starting up a football game with the stronger rival team that whipped them years ago. Of course they win the ...
