Great Film, Actor Commentary So-So
While I've read the book and think it is much better than the film, I still love this film a lot for the great acting, music, and filmography. The DVD reproduction is much clearer than the VHS version. I was a little disappointed in the commentary with Russ Tamblyn and Terry Moore. Both rambled on about personal items not relevant to the movie and a lot of silent gaps. While part of the ...

The Long Ships
The Long Ships This was one of my favourite Saturday afternoon at the movies adventure movie that I was adicted to as a kid. It is very easy to enjoying this DVD for its high spirited adventure the pure nostalgic factor without having to lament that it is basically a B movie - a pretty good B movie. Besides it is a great popcorn with the kids movie and will likely be just as well received by ...

Just one thing......
The only thing I would add to the (In my opinion)'spot on' positive comments regarding this film, is that I wish that it had a Digital Surround audio track. Can you imagine how much it would add to the film to have those awesome audio effects coming at you from all directions in a dark room, on a dark stormy night?! I guess I will add one other thing (can't help myself). The fact that it was ...

MGM (Video & DVD), 2003

a masterpiece of music and dance!
Based on Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet and set in modern New York with rival gangs. This is a great musical! Bernstein's score is a masterpiece of vocal and instrumental arrangements! The sets are a masterpiece of colour and design! The dancing is glorious! The singing is passionate! And it has a raw yet romantic feel. The director has captured a unique and surreal world and has created what I ...

Republic Pictures, 2004

A Wonderful Movie
This is a very good movie. In fact, it is extremely well done all around. The acting was very effective and convincing. Russ Tamblyn is excellent. I particularly liked the cinematography. Also, the script worked on many levels making it appealing to a wide audience. I found this film to be both entertaining and thought provoking.

Age-ism Revealed
The central theme of this movie (enforced retirement or, more widely, the perennial injustice of age-ism) is one we need, more than ever, to consider. Today one is often "thrown on the scrap heap" long before one's 65th birthday. Many an experienced and/or highly intelligent worker then finds himself competing with high school dropouts, drug addicts, the psychosomatically and chronically ...

Sequel is okay, quality is bad...
First, I'll talk about the movie. We have the same cast here as was in "Father of the Bride". This sequel tells the story of the daughter's pregnancy and even the baby gets time up to the age of 6 months old. However, even though it was sweet and a bit funny, it isn't as good as the first movie, though it's still watchable. Now for the quality: this has yet to be remastered. The picture was ...
