Tristan without Iseult, Merlin without magic
I've seen this film countless times, and have yet to tire of it. Excellent cast -- I always like Ray Winstone, and it's a nice introduction to Mads Mikkelsen -- great action scenes (I like Clive Owen's one-handed sword flip from a galloping horse), good story. I think the aspect that appeals to me is seeing these characters in a different light; Tristan without Iseult, Merlin without magic. I ...

great movie
We thought this was a great movie. We are golfers, and it was fun to see how the game has progressed over the years. The commentary and live interviews from the early years in golf were really interesting.

A beautiful and unforgettable film
This movie unforgettable and each time I watch it I find something new that make me look at life and relationships and death. The cast is first-rate, from Steep, Moore and Kidman to the smallest of roles. The acting, the writing, the editing and the music are all excellent. The extra features are first-rate as well. This film is one of the top ten movies I have ever seen. I can watch it ...

Great insights into the effects of unearned wealth
The story (true) is great for anyone interested in getting rich. Illustrates the common reduction of humanity in those who are given wealth they have not earned (most inheritors). A prescient warning for all those wannabe free-market capitalists who are struggling along the road of greed to gain the baubles and bangles that billions and millions will allow them to consume. All hail the ...

Champagne for the eyes
After seeing Olivier's version of Hamlet, I was interested in seeing this version of Hamlet. Admittedly, Mel Gibson was one-hundred percent of my impulse to see this film. I don't usually follow actors when choosing movies; I trust directors more than I trust actors in choosing movies. But Mel Gibson is an exception to this rule: when was the last time the man made a bad movie?-- I can't even ...

Bonus: Excellent anamorphic transfer of "Charade"!
I purchased this DVD from Amazon (a real bargain, "used-like-new" for less than five dollars, including shipping cost) to get a reasonably priced version of the original movie "Charade", filmed in 1963. Many DVD editions of "Charade" have been released, and to judge by the numerous reviews on this site, most of these previous releases have very poor video transfers to DVD. The version of ...

This is a great spy film with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. You must watch every scene very closely because there is so much going on that you don't realize what's happening. Every time I watch the DVD I see something I didn't pick up on before. Excellent movie.

Allegory
Just as Klimt defined his work as allegory so too is the film Klimt. It is a representation of Klimt the man, the artist in allegorical, surrealistic terms. It is intended as anything but a literal biography or any other literal representation of plot, story, much less traditional notions of character development. The film maker has achieved near perfection in his presentation of Klimt, his work, ...

Beautifully photographed and acted!
This mini-series certainly helped to pass the long days of summer vacation for me! Usually anything from Masterpiece Theatre is excellent--but this one surpassed many other mini-series they've done. The intertwining stories of all the members of the Cazalet family are artfully put together in such a way that it keeps the viewer constantly interested. The costumes were very true to the era and the ...

Masterpiece Theater has done it again
This is an excellent adaptation of Anna Karenina. Brilliantly casted, with Helen McCrory as Anna and Kevin McKidd as Vronsky. McKidd has a sort of Russian look about him, though I can't exactly describe it. McCrory's animated deep-set eyes look more and more tired and hopeless by the end of the movie. A near perfect Anna in all her moods and actions. And her laugh is the kind that sticks in your ...

Brilliant thriller!
Occasionally I will buy a movie sight unseen, based on reviews. The Gathering is one of those films, and I loved every moment of it. This is a chillingly atmospheric film with a slow build-up to a startling conclusion, much like Sixth Sense. What is sad is that I never heard of this movie before I stumbled across it on Amazon.com. Fans of this genre should not miss The Gathering.

Surprisingly Powerful Look At A War That Went Unnoticed....
This movie makes me want to be a journalist. The movie follows the lives of foreign correspondants who become intwined with the Bosnian war occuring in Sarajevo- a war they don't understand. While dealing with the silent tragedies erupting around them . The journalists covering the story of the century feel- frustrated, angry and depressed at times at the world's lack of care to tragedy unfolding ...
