the life of debauchery
I can honestly, say that I loved this movie! Absolutely adore it! Now, I've been to movies that were bad. I walked out on Hustle & Flow, barely made it through the remake of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (but still loves Johnny Depp), fell asleep on Jerry Maguire but since have found an appreciation for it on cable television. I can't think of a single movie that I've ever booed, though. ...

Action - Comedy
Great action-comedy. Robert Downing, Jr. can not be recognized and does a great job with the character. Tom Cruise...who would have thought he could look so balding, or have some pretty good dance moves. First half is laugh out loud funny, second half kind of drags and I think could have been done better, but this is a funny "guy" movie.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are superb in this cracking little British comedy. Nick Angel (Pegg) is the London supercop who is so good he's making all his colleagues look fools, and so is shunted off to the 'sticks' and utter boredom - or so it seems. Danny (Frost) is his hapless partner and bane, short on experience but big in enthusiasm. Angel becomes suspicious as the accident mortality rate ...

good flick about a flick about a visonary book
this is a good movie. avoid it if you: 1. Have no real sense of humor, 2. haven't read the novel itself, 3. dont like movies and how they are shot, or 4. can't sit still. th movie is slow to develop and has no real ending, but that is point. it is a modern day vison of the novel, and how something so enjoyable will turn many off because it fails to meet some standardized norms about what a movie ...

Thinking is the best way to travel
Let's get the "down side" out of the way immediately: Video quality on budget-priced DVD sets is not always suitable for hi-def or big screen TVs. These discs work best on standard size tube sets. Audio levels from this manufacturer have in the past been somewhat low-- yet not unlistenable if you have a decent sound system. And now the "up side": A hundred unusual selections for 30 ...

Hilariously Loopy, Politically Incorrect Farce Boasts Enough Laughs to Overcome Its Uneven Structure
I kept flashing back to Christopher Guest's hilarious 1997 mockumentary, Waiting for Guffman, as I was watching this raucous 2008 comedy, and in this case, that turns out to be high praise. Directed and co-written in ramshackle fashion by Andrew Fleming (whose most prominent credits include the 2003 remake of The In-Laws and an episode of Arrested Development), this wacky concoction mixes broad ...

The Only Alice Movie that Really Gets It
No, this is not 100% true to the book. Obviously not, since it starts in the present and stars an adult Alice. But it is one of the few Alices that keeps to the events of the one book, instead of blending both, and it is the only one I have seen to successfully convey the absurdism, the surrealism, the silliness, and the disturbing qualities--as well as the occasional touching moments. The ...

Brilliant! Genius! Side-splitting! Really!
I wasn't familiar with the British character Alan Partridge until recently and I'm so glad I came across him. This DVD is nothing short of brilliant as Steve Coogan portrays a personality we all love to hate. Deluded and self-absorbed DJ Alan Partridge is recently separated from his wife and lives in a motor lodge, where Coogan displays his comedic genius to the hilt. My favorite parts were his ...

Knowing Me, Smash B, Knowing You, the Reader.... A ha
Watch Alan Partridge as the chat show host you'll love to hate as his "moribund" chat show spirals further and further downward. During each episode, Alan's guests of C-list celebrities become harder and harder to control. But funniest of all is Alan himself as the self-absorbed, arrogant host who can't help but speak his mind when he should not. For all of you who are tired of all the ...

Around the World Jackie Chan Style
I remember watching the original "Around the World in 80 Days" on television with my father in the 1970's. Dad and I both agreed the movie was a "yawner" and we were both asleep before it finished. While doing a library search for the Jules Verne book to tie in with the "Galloping the Globe" theme for school I was delighted when I discovered the Walden Media/Walt Disney version of the film. The ...

R.I.P. Tony Wilson
First off R.I.P. Tony Wilson (he died 8-11-07)... I just can not put into words how great this movie is. The dark portrayal of Ian Curtis (look out for 'Closer' a movie about him in the US Oct 10-07) to the goofy druggers Happy Mondays, this is like 2 movies for the price of one. My favorite scene maybe in cinema history is when the actor Wilson is narrating a scene that we are watching of Vini ...
