"When matched in strength, the one with the higher alter wins."
"Spooky Encounters" (aka Close Encounters of the Spooky Kind; 1981) is a seminal work in the hybrid genre of Hong Kong comedy/kung fu/horror films. While this had been done before by the Shaw Brother's "The Spiritual Boxer" (1975), "The Spiritual Boxer Part II" (1979) and Lo Wei's unsuccessful "Spiritual Kung Fu" (1978), "Spooky Encounters" is the film most causal in the formative kyonsi ...

Navarre Corporation, 2009
Tang Chia is considered one of the greatest kung-fu choreographers ever. He directed three movies on his own and his last, is not only his greatest, but one of the greatest ever. Ti Lung, in one of his finest performances, stars Tieh Chiao-san, head of the Ten Kwangtung Tigers, who falls victim to opium, the drug which crippled China. The tragedies and drama that ensue are as stunning as the kung-fu, created by a superlative team of six martial ...

5-star movie, best version for casual action fans. . .
I know it's sacrilege to suggest that a cut-down, dubbed DVD is superior in any way to the original. But in this case it does have its advantages. This film (originally titled Drunken Master 2) is JC's best Kung Fu choreography you'll find. This version is shorter than the Hong Kong version, has only dubbing, and replaces the original score. But being as this is such a fantastic fighting ...

The most influential Hong kong ganster film, and an Action-cinema masterpiece.
The best introduction i can think of for this 1986 all-time classic action thriller that started the true Hong Kong ganster genre, and its influence over the movie industry, is this: In Quentin Tarantino's own words, this film, along with Ringo Liam's "City on fire", was the true influence and reference behind his first masterpiece "Reservoir dogs", film that turned the independent ganster film ...

kumi-what?
Don't get this confused with Bloodsport folks. Instead of being a movie about a martial arts tournament feauturing a love story, this is a love story featuring a martial arts tournament. There is no indication of this from either the cover art of this dvd or the trailer itself. While the tournament is enjoyable and there is decent fight action, the love story is not strong enough to support ...

A MUST OWN
The Hong Kong Godfather. Without a doubt this movie proves that John Woo is the best action director of all time, the vision, style, and the sher genious that he (Woo) uses in the direction of this movie is what sets it apart from and american action movie ever made. The action in this movie plays out like a ballet, a dance with bullets and blood. So put down those typical american action ...

Swordplay at its finest.
Two swordsman agree to meet and have a second duel. During the duel they are attacked by two assassins. They later learn the attack is ordered by a man who fears the both of them plus a powerful weapon. The weapon is called the Peacock Darts and has sometype of unknown power. Fu Hung-hsueh played by Ti Lung is the main character and he carries a spinning sword. I have to say the battles he ...

One of the best martial arts films I've ever seen in my life
Man, oh man, this is one fantastic martial arts film. If Five Shaolin Masters doesn't have it all, it certainly does come close. Not only do you have numerous well-choreographed fight scenes involving groups as well as individuals, you've got a whole buffet of fighting styles served up for your viewing pleasure. Speaking of viewing pleasure, the print is fantastic. I can't speak for the DVD ...

one of the best kung-fu flicks ever!!!!!
this has some of the most amazing fight scenes ever, especially the last one in the prison area. the story is basic, about the shaolin temple being stopped by an emperor, in which one of the students from the temple is working for. he helps captures the students who are still alive and tortures them in the prisons for a reason (which i won't give away). definetally one of the best!!!

great cast, great waste of time.
Disappointing, to say the least. A wonderful cast that includes Ti Lung, Alexander Fu Sheng, all 6 Venoms, and a bunch more Shaw Brothers' performers that you aficionados will recognize. Then why is it not very good? The characters are annoying (especially Fu Sheng), the fights are slow (though plentiful, and they do eventually get better), and it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. ...

BLACK MAGIC DELIVERS SHOCKS AND SHIVERS
I was shocked and delighted at this incredibly entertaining and bizarre spectacle that goes way over the top but in some weird way also seems restrained. I'm not into blood and gore or the recent glut of Cinema de Sadism, but this retro classic does not flinch from the story it's telling. Not for all tastes. Actually, on second thought, it's probably not for most tastes. The print ...

Two 18-year-old Kung fu trainees, each of whom was raised apart from the other by different teachers, whose intent is to have the boys fight to determine which teachers were better. The Boys father had been sworn brothers, but an attack by Chin Troops, when the boys were infants had left one father dead and the other in hiding. This plot thread is dropped when one of the boys, Kuo Ching(Fu Sheng) meets a young girl, Yong(Tein Niu), whose father ...

Image Entertainment with a perfect release of a spectacular Shaw Brothers Wuxia movie from 1979
The movie opens with a duel between Ti Lung and Chan Wai Man. Ti Lung has a special technique where he pierces his opponent's shoulder blade and the tip of his sword is always left behind. Chan Wai Man manages to escape and goes to see a doctor played by Ku Feng. Ku Feng seems like a good doctor, but there is a lot more to him than meets the eye. He is changing Chan Wai Man into a different ...

Outlaws of the Marsh/ The Water Margin
This film is a brief out take from the Chinese classic Outlaws of the Marsh, reprotedly carried by Chairman Mao throughout his heroic stuggles against fascism. The original story was written in the 14th Century and has been an onging source of inspiration to Chinese literary creativity ever since. The Original story has so many sub plots and charaters that I think it might classify as the first ...

Excellent story with comprehensive plot
This is probably my best martial arts film of my collection. Nothing against "American Ninja", or "Enter the Dragon", but this movie has a decent plot that you can follow, not to mention how the brothers come together and understand what they must do! A must for any collection.
