I go for Live!
I read the reviews by Stax fans where they say the records are better. Maybe they are so used to the sound of the records that these versions don't sound like the 'real thing' to them. Personally I knew some of the songs and some I did not. I would buy this DVD if only these 2 songs were on it: the swaying and swamping version of Raise your hand by Eddie Floyd (aaahhhhhh....those guitars) and the ...

A little frayed around the cuff but
I loved it. In my opinion some of the footage should have been put in the trash rather than in the film but that is what the skip button is for. The footage from Guy Clark's kitchen table, Townes' kitchen, Steve Earle doing the Mercenary Song, Rodney doing Bluebird Wine, Steve Young doing Alabama Highway, everybody doing Silent Night, and Guy Clark at the Exit Inn was worth twice what I paid ...

CHICAGO MEMORIES
This is an outstanding release--the subject is Maxwell St. Chicago,a legendary marketplace and breeding ground for some of the finest blues music ever made--and as could be expected some fairly eccentric characters emerged. The DVD consists of two b/w films,And This Is Free and Maxwell Street;A Living Memory--both are excellent and include some fine music from the street, including Robert ...

This excellent documentary on the classic Stax Records label emerges as a fascinating social and cultural overview. From Booker T. and the MGs to the Staple Singers, the Stax icons are seen in all their glory. Filmmakers Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville have done a remarkable job chronicling the soulful triumphs and brutal realities of the Memphis hit factory. "Respect Yourself" packs a dynamic ...

Hands down, THE Best Beginner Drum DVD.
I don't normally write reviews, but this DVD inspired me to write one. After getting my drum set, I purchased quite a few drum DVDs looking for the best substitue for lessons. The two Tommy Igoe DVDs (Beginning Drums and Groove Essentials) are by far the best DVDs I've ever seen for that purpose. In fact, Tommy actually shows students learning the drums and talks to the audience as if he's in ...

I saw this on a German satellite channel 20 years ago, and I've always wished I'd recorded it. The excitement of everyone present came through loud and clear, and all the musicians gave outstanding performances. When I saw there was a DVD, it led me to make my first ever order to Amazon, and it has lived up to all my expectations. This is a buy that I will never regret.

A Great Bargin
When I decide on whether or not to buy a "Now" cd or any cd, I count the number of songs that I like on it. 1 song = No Purchase, 2 songs = Maybe, 3 or more = Buy; I hate buying cd's with only one good song on it. If you estimate the cost at $35.00, the cost per music video is only $.78 then compare that to other Music Video DVD's and you may end of agreeing with me. My wife and I both ...

Great dancing spoilt by "too many cameras" syndrome
From what little we could see, the tango dancing in this video is excellent. But that hardly matters... because they appear to have had about 45 cameras available -- and an idiot director who clearly hates dance himself and assumes everyone else does as well. Mr. Director evidently decided that he was hired to make all that (yawn, snore) dancing stuff interesting... and the only way he can ...

When I first watched this, I had no idea what to expect. After it's all said and done, this is one of my favorite movies. Hopefully you don't mind subtitles (or speak rasta). Great tunes backing a movie with an even greater message. It'll make you skin your teeth. Two thumbs up!

Great DVD
My 10 month old loves this DVD. Whenever she hears the DVD player come on she just sits there and waits for it to come on. When it comes on she will just rock back and forth and just watch the DVD. She just laughs & smiles whenever the children come on. I would really recommond this DVD. I just bought another one so I don't have to keep hearing the same one over and over.

My son loves this one too!
Having raised an autistic son who is on the low end of the spectrum for over 10 years, I can honestly say this product is very good. My son has not grown tired of watching and listening to the video. Like many autistic children, he does not partake in group activities, or think of other people as anything other than tools which are used to get what he wants (or objects which are impediments to ...
