True classic tv
This set is the 1st season of that true great tv show Hill Street Blues. We have waited a long while to get this classic tv program on dvd-and it was worth the wait. It is a mixture of the drama of a police station and it's variety of personalities and the comedy of those personalities and situations.

Deserves more credit................
This movie is reminiscent of the movie HOSTEL only without as much gore. As a serious horror fan, I thoroughly enjoyed Hostel but every once in a while you need an intense thriller that focuses more on the tension of the situation than just blood and guts. This movie is that more tense/ less gore "Hostel". The themes are similar-- American/European tourists going on vacation to a foreign exotic ...

A Buddy Picture That Reaches Far Deeper Into the Heart
When I visited South America on my own extended trip a few years ago, I was amazed how many times I saw pictures of Ché Guevara everywhere I went....cafes, outdoor bulletin boards, art galleries, even department stores. By now having read his diary several times, I can understand his impact, and the 2004 film surpasses my expectations on almost every level. It is perceptively directed, ...

Nature or nurture?
This movie has probably ended up playing the role of a "predictor" of events. When it was made, probably one could not have imagined that cloning or genetic sequencing would advance so rapidly. The evil Dr. Josef Mengele gathers all his Nazi cronies with a view to creating 94 "little Hitlers" and killing their fathers in order to recreate the actual environment surrounding Hitler's boyhood. As ...

One Of The Best Terry Gilliam Films
When this film was released in the theaters it went under the radar for the general public simply because Columbia Pictures didn't have faith in it. They spent a good amount of money for production but decided not to spend it in marketing (they also didn't know how to market it) and it was eventually released in a very limited run. That's unfortunate because I can't think of too many films that ...

Medicine Man
"Medicine Man" is, in my personal opinion, an entertaining, funny movie with a real life message about conserving our natural resources. This movie focuses on plants and animals and all of their posibiities for unknown uses, including medical cures that undiscovered and non-studied plants and animals possess. As an example, just recently the venom of the Gila Monster, Heloderma suspectum, has ...

The characters will stay with you
This is one of those movies that stays with you for a while. The story telling is impeccable and though there are a lot of characters, all of them are unique and well rounded. I would recommend to anyone who likes "gangster" type movies. Don't let the subtitles scare you! - you will greatly miss out.

A Classic!
If you are not a Tery Gilliam fan then you might not be able to appreciate this masterpiece. In the vein of 1984, the future is a world based on control and corruption, just Terry Gilliam style.

Love this dance class!
I first took Quenia's class when she showed up one day as a substitute teacher several years ago, and have been following her sporadically ever since. This DVD captures the essence of her class--the solid warm up and workout, and the sheer joyous energy of both Quenia and Samba. The price is less than a single class in NYC, so I recommend this DVD for cost, sweat, beauty, and FUN.

A fun workout
A fun, different sort of exercise video--it's real dancing instead of aerobics, but you will work up a sweat. Easy to learn steps and excellent cuing, a very nice change of pace from other aeorbics videos.

A VERY SPECIAL CLASSIC
I, like Barack Obama's mother(ref. TIME April 21, 2008 p.38), fell in love with this movie when I first saw it in 1960. A colorful cinematic feast for the eyes filmed in Rio at Carnival time, presents a well crafted classic myth that penetrates the deepest depths of your soul and gives you an experience you've never had before. This strange, beautiful tale of native life, love and death had ...

There is a way to live different than ours
This is the best way to show your kids that there is a different way to live besides the materialism that we are used to, and guess what, there is happiness there too, and lots of it. Here you will see how two best friends grow in one of Rio de Janeiro`s favelas, and get face to face with gangs and drug traffic, poverty, sexuality, and family problems and manage to come up being great persons, ...

a wonderful flick!
At first,I did not know what to expect from an imported film. The beginning starts with a lawyer arriving in Venezuela and a little kid escorts him to the doctor's house. The doctor then launches into the story of a young woman named Anglea Duvall, who is framed for murder and thrown into a womens prison for 18 years. After a while, however,Anglea discovers prison wont be as easy as she thinks. In the ...

One of My All-Time Favorites!
I have loved this movie since it came out. I have yet to order the DVD, but will soon. I have trouble with anyone not seeing the value in this film. Yes, you have to suspend disbelief in order to "get" it. But it is a spectacularly beautiful movie with great acting and many messages for the human soul, including that we are so much more than our technology. I have never tired of watching it ...

Excellent WIDESCREEN DVD
It's amazing how many people write a review for a DVD they've never even purchased. There are all these other people out there who give it 1 or 2 stars because "it's a great movie but it's full screen." If you were to actually watch this movie on this DVD you would see that, yes, it reads full screen on the back but it is WIDESCREEN. I watched this on a huge TV and I have surround sound, and ...

"1984" Meets "Brave New World"
Brazil is not a crowd-pleaser to rent on video night with your friends. It is not a date movie, an action flick to watch with the boys, or any other genre of film you'll see multiple copies of at the local Blockbuster. So, what is it? Brazil is vision of a chilling future, and many compare it with Orwell's classic "1984". Jackbooted security police, institutionalized systematic torture, and ...
