Beethoven Choral fantasy and Triple Concerto
A wonderful treat to see these three great musicians playing together! They are so intense and involved in the music, a true inspiration to us all! Outstanding work by Daniel Barenboim to be able to conduct and play - he is truly one of the greatest pianists of our time!

Masterpiece. (100 out of 100)
Amazing is all I can say. A true masterpiece of animation and art. The grandfather of all modern animation. It is beyond cool to have all the episodes available in one package (as a set of 6 dvd's). It's all here, uncut and unedited. Loved by generations of children and now my children too. On two of the dvd's (to introduce the character "Mammy Two Shoes") there is a dvd intro by Whoopi ...

Daniel Barenboim Shines as Conductor and Soloist
If Daniel Barenboim is not the world's greatest living classical musician he is certainly the most versatile. In a career spanning more than 50 years, his name is attached to many of the celebrated recordings of opera, symphony, small ensemble and piano solo. With the later half of his career marked by distinction at the podium, one may forget that he is still an accomplished concert pianist. ...

Exellent!
Add me to the people raving about this new 7.1 music titles. I have been searching for quite some time to find music on Blu-ray and I finally found it. The quality of the recordings is very high, as one would expect with DTS-HD Master Audio. I would buy this disc set first, listen to it for about three months, and then and only then move on to the other stuff. I must say that listening to this ...

Amadeus who?
This movie is superbly produced and acted. One is transported back to those days of Patrons of the Arts and fashionable Salons ruled over by the matriarchs of local society. Mozart doesn't come out of history with too much credit and for his sake, it might have been better had this film - and history generally - had skipped over his private life and character. His music, on the other hand, ...

What fun!
What a thoroughly enjoyable experience! This turns out to be one of Handel's most accessible scores with some of his most endearing arias as well as a few duets and concerted pieces. The fragile plot enfolds like a Shakespearean comedy with mistaken and supressed identities , cross dressing, twists of plot, pangs and pains of love and all turns out for the best in the end. The production itself ...

A wonderful memorial
Concertos 3, 4 and 5 were recorded in Vienna in 1989, the year before Leonard Bernstein's death. Krystian Zimerman in December 1991 completed the cycle, as a memorial to the late conductor. The pianist conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker from the keyboard in concertos 1 and 2. Zimerman is an outstanding Beethoven interpreter: technically perfect, forceful, but always sensitive and aware of the ...

Rubinstein in the indian summer of his career
Following their release of Artur Rubinstein's Grieg, Chopin and Saint-Saëns concertos, Deutsche Grammophon issues another fascinating programme about the great pianist, recorded two years earlier, in August 1973, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Rubinstein can be heard and seen in Beethoven's 3rd and Brahms's 1st, both accompanied by the Concertgebouw Orchestra under Bernard Haitink. ...

Terrific insights, nothing condescending
Curiously enough, I was moved to purchase this video by one of the less-than-stellar reviews on this page; I already knew Angela Hewitt to be a fine artist, and though I strongly doubted that there would be any basis for claims like "It's all about Angela" and so forth, this disparaging review added to the interest I already had about this DVD set. It is my pleasure to opine that such ...

Great performances!
Von Karajan obviously enjoys conducting the Prokoviev, and it shows in the vivacity of the performance. Sometimes the pp passages are ppp, but all else is fine. The Tchaikovsky is an unusual performance, with much slower tempos and more deliberation during transitions (even pauses) than are generally found in this work. Probably played five minutes longer than Horowitz or Gilels would have ...

Play back depends upon BR player
There have been some other reports about this particular BR disc not playing. The bottom line here is whether or not it will play. This particular disc would not play on a Panasonic BD60, yet plays on a Panasonic BD30 (a previous generation BR player). Panasonic seems to actively update their firmware - so they may do so for this disc. I have described my problem to Panasonic, so hopefully ...
