The Bad Seed139 reviews
Nancy Kelly, Patty McCormack

Warner Home Video, 2004

Nice Shoes
I don't know which is scarrier: folks so deeply analyzing this film that they lose sight of its simple brilliance; or that when I told my sister that I had purchased the bad seed on dvd she said, "Well, that movie pretty much sums up my childhood...". As the name of Mufasa when spoken to Shenzi, the bad seed is full of tingles. Frankly I was blown away by it. Before becoming a film, it had ...

Guys and Dolls107 reviews
Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons

MGM (Video & DVD), 2000

Guys and Dolls
This is a true classic. Greta actors, wonderful script, some of the best Broadway music in one show. Another must see for the "musical" enthusiast.

Stuart Goetz, Deborah White

Bci / Eclipse, 2007

Awsome film
Don't listen to the other reviews. Pom Pom Girls and The Van are not the worst, but bust thing about this collection. I only wish there were more movies this good from the 70s. This is teenspoitation at its best!

Ed Wood (Special Edition)246 reviews
Johnny Depp, Martin Landau

Touchstone / Disney, 2004

"Get Me Transvestites. I Need Transvestites"
Poor Ed Wood. Commonly acknowledged as the worst director ever, he is now immortalized forever in a biopic as...quite possibly the worst director ever. Yeah. And he liked to wear women's clothes. Even parachuted during WW2 wearing women's underwear. Pretty bad situation to be in if your bra begins to chafe. Think about it. Depp plays Wood with a wide-eyed desperate earnestness. A free ...

Lewis & Clark - The Journey of the Corps of Discovery53 reviews
Hal Holbrook, Adam Arkin

Pbs Paramount, 2004

Ken Burns is the best
As someone who's working on a novel about western 19th century America, this documentary is amazing. The questions it leaves us with are one's of wonder--how did they survive? They traipsed across the country in a boat, in horseback, and by foot. And back. They survived weather at -38 degrees; climbed mountains only to find more mountains, traversed deserts only to find more deserts. And through ...

Caroline in the City - The First Season4 reviews
Lea Thompson

Paramount, 2008

Fingers crossed the episodes are in order
I bought all 4 seasons from Amazon Uk. While I was happy to have them I was frustrating as none of the episodes were in order. Below is a list of the episodes for the first season in order for you to check against. 1. Pilot 2. Caroline and the Mugger 3. Caroline and the Gay Art Show 4. Caroline and the Bad Back 5. Caroline and the ATM 6. Caroline and the Folks 7. Caroline and the ...

Sunset Boulevard (Special Collector's Edition)249 reviews
William Holden, Gloria Swanson

Paramount, 2002

Hollywoodland
I just watched "Sunset Boulevard" for the first time. I absolutley loved it. I usually stay away from "black and white" movies, considering they are not from my generation. The only other old movies I've seen are "To Kill A Mockingbird", and parts of "It's a Wonderful Life". This one interested me because I work in the entertainment industry and I like movies about Hollywood. "Sunset ...

Where the Red Fern Grows52 reviews
Joseph Ashton, Dabney Coleman

Walt Disney Video, 2004

Family Favorite
This version of Where The Red Fern Grows is much more like the book than the older version. It shows more of the hard work and determined effort that went into getting the dogs. The whole family loves it, it was a tear jerker too, because we recently lost our Little Ann.

A Place in the Sun95 reviews
Robert Anderson, Gertrude Astor

Paramount, 2001

the American dream which dissolved into a nightmare
Originally filmed in 1931, Theodore Dreiser's landmark novel "An American Tragedy" came back to the screen in 1951, directed by George Stevens under the new title of A PLACE IN THE SUN, with an inspired cast. This moving romance captured the emotions of post-war audiences with it's unflinching, painful depiction of one man's struggle to achieve the American dream, and the fates which conspire ...

Little Miss Sunshine515 reviews
Abigail Breslin, Greg Kinnear

20th Century Fox, 2006

Brilliant and just about flawless
This movie is absolute perfection. There is nothing I don't like about it. I laughed, I cried. This is one of those movies that everyone needs to see. It is filled with characters that are brilliantly acted and quickly become people we know. It moves swiftly and powerfully from comedy to drama and back again. If this film doesn't touch your heart, you need to check to be sure you're still ...

Elmer Gantry49 reviews
Burt Lancaster, Jean Simmons

MGM (Video & DVD), 2001

Elmer "where are ya now, when we need you" Gantry
Ah yes, when men were men, and Burt Lancaster was the best of all possible men! He has always breathed a quality of three-dimensional life into the characters that he portrayed that made him almost mythical. But clearly this was one of Burt's best acting performances. The man embodied sheer brilliance. In one scene Elmer (Burt Lancaster) walks into an all black Church, takes a place in the ...

Volcano94 reviews
Tommy Lee Jones, Anne Heche

20th Century Fox, 1999

Volcano
In 1997 there were two eagerly anticipated volcano movies released. Dante's Peak was more of a blockbuster hit, but not very accurate from a geologist's standpoint. Volcano was more realistic and accurate. It was nice to see a disaster movie depicted as it would naturally happen. Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche were wonderful to watch!

Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp31 reviews
Dayton Allen, Mel Blanc

Image Entertainment, 2006

Proof of intelligent design in childrens' programming.
Wow, now here's a memory from my childhood that I thought I'd never get to relive! And the best thing is that it's got a satirical element that I never could appreciate when I saw this as a kid. Sure, I understood that it was "Get Smart" with apes instead of humans, and I could follow the story lines, but it was those little pop culture things that I missed out on and that I was pleasently ...

Boss of Bosses16 reviews
Chazz Palminteri, Angela Alvarado

Turner Home Ent, 2001

BOSS OF BOSSES IS BOSS
The restraint with which Chazz Palminteri plays his character, amidst all of the orchestrated insanity that accompanies violent crime, is incredible. Couple this with marvelous cinematography, and a terrific music score, and you have a winner of a film. The casting is flawless. See it. TONY HOROWITZ

The Caine Mutiny (Collector's Edition)84 reviews
Humphrey Bogart, José Ferrer

Sony Pictures, 2007

One Of The Most Powerful Movies Made
Less about war or even court martial, this film delves into the darkness in men's souls. The scene where Capt. Queeg psyche comes unraveled while he is on the stand during questioning, is one of the most powerful ever filmed. I too, felt the contempt that Jose Ferrer's character felt for the officers that he defended. A must see film.

Love at First Bite92 reviews
George Hamilton, Susan Saint James

MGM (Video & DVD), 2005

Fangs for the Memories
George Hamilton is the last of the great Draculas. I didn't care for the Frank Langela remake, or the Klaus Kinsky remake of Nosferatu Eine Symphone des Grauens as Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht. It's gotten steadily worse with Gary Oldman and Mark Warren as Dracula and William DaFoe as Max Schreck (a very real actor from the Max Reinhardt troupe that produced Conrad Veidt and Paul Weggener. ...
