Bob le Flambeur - Criterion Collection27 reviews
Gerard Buhr, Daniel Cauchy

Criterion, 2002

Ah, Monsieur Bob...
Just saw this movie again after probably two decades, and it's still one of the more gripping - and probably the pleasantest - of the great heist/noir movies I've ever seen. Reminded me that I once had a trilogy in my head of aging-courtly-criminals-we-root-for: Roger Duchesne's Bob Le Flambeur, Burt Lancaster's Lou Pasco in "Atlantic City", and Richard Farnsworth's Bill Miner is "The Grey ...

The Hustler (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)92 reviews
Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason

20th Century Fox, 2007

NOBODY'S RIGHT WHEN EVERYBODY'S WRONG
I first saw this film in 1961, and for my money it's probably the most realistic ever. Here's one; this reviewer can actually smell the grime as it passes through the screen. The indescribable stench of an old pool hall, the grit of a bus terminal, where your next cup of coffee may be your last, the sleazy bar that never seems to close, the self named bums who inhabit such places are all a part ...

20th Century Fox, 2006

K8
I have loved this movie for many years, and it is even better on Blu-ray. The chase scenes through the valleys and hills are absolutely beautiful. Even the bicycle scene is more enjoyable with a crisp picture. This movie is in my top 5. The best of the old west. Newman and Redford both give great performances, and their interaction on screne is unmatched. And certainly not to be ...

fun even if you're not a comedy-lover
this movie is hilarious. i am not an easy laugher and most movies that are supposed to be funny just make me roll my eyes. the situation is very easy to relate to--who hasn't dreamed of chucking the corporate life and living more simply? men and women will enjoy it equally. i even sent a dvd to my financial advisor.

The Color of Money41 reviews
Robert Agins, Alvin Anastasia

Walt Disney Video, 2002

A great sequel
A sequel of sorts of Newman's 1960 THE HUSTLER, and a great one. Newman, long out of the pool game now, but still unable to forget it, finds Tom Cruise shooting the daylights out of the game one night and talks the brash young kid into going on the road and becoming a hustler, with Newman as his mentor. Then halfway through the picture Newman gets the bug to play again. He and Cruise meet up in ...

Bad Lieutenant94 reviews
Harvey Keitel, Victor Argo

Lions Gate, 2001

BAD LIEUTENANT IS A HIT AND MISS BUT MOSTLY IT'S AMAZING!
I am reviewing this because I am a guy that likes Bad Cop/Good Cop movies. With this movie, "The Bad Lieutenant" it's from the same director that did, "King of New York" Which was one of my favorite movies of all time. Bad Lieutenant has a lot of things going for it. It was a very well pace movie, but also savage and sometimes strange. Yes there are some parts in this movie that is kind of a ...

TCM Archives - Forbidden Hollywood Collection, Vol. 1 (Waterloo Bridge [1931] / Baby Face / Red-Headed Woman)38 reviews
Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent

Warner Home Video, 2006

Crystal Clear
It's amazing that these movies have never hit dvd before!!! They have crystal clear sound and picture with a documentary by Robert Osbourne. The thing that caught my attention upon this product was the pre-release version of Baby Face. Those few minutes of film that were cut are sooo essential. If you like movies from the early 30's then you'll LOVE this collection. I reccomend it!

The Good Thief50 reviews
Nutsa Kukhianidze, Ouassini Embarek

20th Century Fox, 2003

One of Nolte's Best
This flick is really one of his best. Most of the other actors are virtually unknown in the U.S., which is too bad because they really do a great job. Ralph Finnes has a tiny, but intense part in this that helps make it a really tense and sexy heist movie. It's kind of in the same vein as Ronin. It's also a lot of fun.

Owning Mahowny35 reviews
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Minnie Driver

Sony Pictures, 2003

Amazing Performance in a great movie
This movie really makes you think about the dangers of gambling. After watching it, I don't even want to play penny poker! Hoffman's performance is tremendous, you can see his anguish after every defeat. His compulsion is frightening and makes me want to sue casinos out of business. He pushes away family, friends, and his career, all in the hopes of what? I like the fact that the town bookie ...

A Big Hand for the Little Lady17 reviews
Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward

Warner Home Video, 2007

Totally Underrated
Without a doubt one of the most unsung and unknown great movies. The cast alone should say something, Henry (Never made a bad movie) Fonda, Joanne Woodward, Jason Robards, Burgess Meredith, Charles Bickford, and of course Paul Ford in a most memoriable role as Ballinger. If you liked My Cousin Vinny you'll savor Big Hand for the Little Lady, it trumps MCV and that ain't no easy task. ...

Los Chicos Gordos
If you like laughing, smiling, or smirking out loud...this is definitely the motion picture for you. And if you don't like any of the above, why then you should take a good hard look at the "Man in a Mirror" as Michael Jackson pointed out, and think about both changing your ways and--let me be clear--if you want to make the world a better place, I recommend taking a look at yourself and making a ...

Kino Video, 2006

A German silent cinema masterpiece in restored form
Fritz Lang's brilliantly directed and designed DR. MABUSE: THE GAMBLER (1922, Germany) is one of the crowning achievements of the German silent cinema from the decade following World War One. And Kino Video in Manhattan has given it a magnificent restoration that runs a full four-and-a-half hours. The print is beautiful, way longer than previous versions on home video, and with an evocatively ...
