Garden State459 reviews
Zach Braff, Natalie Portman

20th Century Fox, 2004

If I could, I'd give it 10 stars...
I absolutely LOVE this movie. If I were asked to named my current favorite movie, it has to be this film. The music, the mood of the entire movie, the humor, it all works beautifully. Zach Braff did a wonderful job with this picture. He wrote, directed, and starred in this and that is an amazing accomplishment, especially when the outcome is a film as beautiful as this is. I love it. LOVE IT.

Grey Gardens / The Beales of Grey Gardens - Criterion Collection (2-disc set)96 reviews
Edith Bouvier Beale, Edith 'Little Edie' Bouvier Beale

Criterion, 2006

Hard to watch, hard not to watch ...
Grey Gardens was initialy intended to be a documentary film on the Bouvier family, the ancestors of Jackie Kennedy Onassis and her sister Lee Radziwill. However, after being introduced to Edith Bouvier Beale (Jackie's father "Black Jack's" sister) and her daughter (Jackie's first cousin), the focus changed ... to a story that would have been all-but-impossible for a documentary filmmaker to walk ...

Gardens of Stone29 reviews
James Caan, Anjelica Huston

Sony Pictures, 2002

Spot On...
The story line was a bit of surprise for Hollywood. A "war" movie w/out blood or combat. Doing a movie about the Old Guard and Arlington during the Vietnam War was pretty brave considering the sympathy displayed for the men involved...You have a PSG (platoon dad)James Caan, torn by demands of duty and a family lost to him because of that duty. (This should reasonate with all of us vets who lost ...

The Secret Garden110 reviews
Kate Maberly, Maggie Smith

Warner Home Video, 1997

Simply enchanting
This was one of those titles I recognized but never read or watched the movies. We meet Mary Lenox a neglected child born and raised in India. Her neglectful parents die in a massive earth quake and she has to go to England to live with her uncle. Her arrival in less then eventful as the other orphans make fun of her and nobody meets her on the docks. She travels to the middle of ...

The Beales of Grey Gardens - Criterion Collection20 reviews
Edith Bouvier Beale, Edith 'Little Edie' Bouvier Beale

Criterion, 2006

More of "Big" and "Little" Edie at Thier Best....
If you have had the unique experience of viewing the original "Grey Gardens", and getting to know the story of the Beales of East Hampton, then you will delight in this DVD. We do get to see "Little Edie" Beale in more of a "normal" angle. She does a lot of talking, and it makes a lot of sense.

Elton John: Elton 60 - Live At Madison Square Garden [Blu-ray]77 reviews
Elton John, Kate Thornton

Island / Mercury, 2007

Classy and satisfying for every Elton fan...
As an Elton John fan of many years, I looked forward to this Blu-ray rendition of the Garden concert. It doesn't disappoint although the audio mix is a bit off with balance favoring the accompaniment. Nevertheless, it's a great way to enjoy an evening. One criticism --- where is GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD? Well, I guess you can't have it all.

Whos Here2 reviews
In the Night Garden

Great DVD, but NOT NTSC
This is a great DVD for the kids to watch, our 1-year-old son is glued to it for a whole episode. Unfortunately, contrary to the statement, it is not NTSC (which implies USA region 1) but PAL (region 2). It's okay if you have a multi-region dvd player, but completely useless otherwise :(

The Secret Garden73 reviews
Gennie James, Barret Oliver

Hallmark, 2002

Classic!
I love this movie! I grew up watching this version and plan on showing it to my own children. The newer version didn't have the same "magic". This is definitely a classic and worth purchasing. Also, notice a VERY young Colin Firth at the end!

Garden Party2 reviews
Christopher Allport, Erik Scott Smith

Lions Gate, 2008

A Good Film
This is a good film. It is not perfect but I really enjoyed it. The charecters and situations are realistic. Its well written, directed and acted. If you like movies that realistically depict the life of teenagers and young adults in today's society you will enjoy this movie.

FIRST RUN FEATURES, 1999

A Meditation
April 28, 2004 I first came upon this charming short in the Children's Room of the Donnell Library, part of the NYPL. I was intrigued by a film for children explaining Monet, one of the harder artists to explain in art appreciation terms for young people. I was not disappointed. This short from Sweden with English-language dubbing has a number of subtle qualities: a mediation on a well-known ...

Back to the Secret Garden15 reviews
Joan Plowright, George Baker

Lions Gate, 2002

Secret Garden DVD
throughly enjoyed this movie. Sarah Hollis Andrews played the part well of Mary she is a wonderful actress. The actors played all their parts well I thought Dickon was the perfect actor for this part and was how I imagined him to be in the book as were all the actors Colin, Martha etc. I would rate this an excellent movie as I thought the story followed the book more.

Hello Igglepiggle3 reviews
In the Night Garden

Wonderful Children's Program
Our daughter is 13 months old, and she absolutely lit up the first time she saw the program on British television. She loves Uppsy Daisy most of all. We bought the DVD's while on vacation and hoped to get a DVD player that would be able to play them; now, we'll just get the US versions. From an adult perspective, by the way, this is probably the most surreal video I have ever seen. Hearing ...
