Schoolgirl Report 2: What Keeps Parents Awake at2 reviews
Friedrich von Thun, Eric Wedekind

Ryko Distribution - Video, 2007

School Girls Report II...... Interesting Concept
I rented this film years ago on VHS. It was on the TZ Video label. The one thing about TZ video, was that they tended to edit their stuff. I had seen "Emmanuel In Bangkok" on cable TV and then ran into a copy sometime later on TZ Video. It had been cut to some degree. When I watched School Girls Report II, I had the nagging feeling that it had been cut. It still was a pretty good film with some ...

The Panzers
German War Files

Arts Magic, 2007

This "War Archive" set of exclusive programs brings the most comprehensive collection of the Wehrmacht's mobile fighting armor probably ever compiled as a definitive series. The Panzer and Tiger tanks in their various configurations swept all before them throughout Europe, Russia and the Middle East in the "Blitzkreig" campaigns, The series deal with the evolution of each tank, many of which were judged to be the best designed tanks of the war. ...

World War II The German Front (DVD)4 reviews

Digiview

Excellent Value for Riveting Archival Footage
Though these films may not satisfy every WWII film expert with an extensive library of documentaries, for the modest collector and history buff, they are an amazing value. For less than a cup of coffee you get over 3 hours of extraordinary wartime footage, with history coming alive in your living room, the way no book can ever reveal it. The first 2 films are propaganda made by the War ...

German Sniper: The Invisible Enemy1 review

International Historic Films, Inc., 2003

German Snipers
This is 2 training films put together to show how German snipers operated during World War 2. It is a little tedious and at times can feel like it drags on, but overall I beleive this is a good documentary. It was made during the war so all of the information is accurate and up to date from when it was made.

Brahms: A German Requiem1 review
J. Brahms, Herbert von Karajan

Deutsche Grammophon, 2008

A solace deeper than tears
Following her stroke in January 1865, Brahms hurriedly traveled to see his mother but she died, aged 75, before he arrived. In April of that year he began work on the Requiem. Although Brahms never spoke of the matter, the death of his mother was the impetus for writing his single largest composition. It bears little resemblance to the Requiem Mass of Catholic liturgy. It is, rather, an offer of ...

KOCH LORBER FILMS, 2004

A "star" among road trip movies
Of the "road trip" style of movies this is probably the best I've seen. It is the story of a hapless science professor, Daniel (Moritz Bleibtreu), receives mystical advice from a street vendor that he will find his true love wearing a star. In a mix-up he has a fantastic one night stand with someone wearing a star, and decides to find her in Turkey. Thus begin his travels and the discovery ...

Europa Europa90 reviews
Marco Hofschneider, Julie Delpy

MGM (Video & DVD), 2003

A gem!
Agniezka Holland retakes one of so many stories lived through the bloody WW2. But this time she presents us an epic, courageous and epic (if I may) stoy, about a German-Jewish teenager who could survive in the WW2 concealing his own identity and living as a Nazi citizen during seven long years through three countries. A valorous and worthy to mention anecdote that shows us even in the most horrid ...

GERMAN SHEPHERD DVD: + Dog & Puppy Training Bonus3 reviews

Pet Video Library, 2007

Loved it!!! German Shepherds Rule!
This is the 2nd DVD we got from this series. The first was the interactive puppy training and helped us potty-train our new German Shepherd. Over all they are interesting and informative and gives good detailed information on the breed. Plan on getting the Dog Tricks next as I see it is a top seller. The basic obedience worked good with our puppy too.

German 101 (Learn to Speak German with The Travel Linguist)2 reviews

The Travel Linguist, 2005

Recommended for Beginning German Speakers
I teach high school German (but I'm American) so I bought this for my class to listen to real authentic German accents. I'm pretty sure these are southern accents from the Munich area. If you know Germany, you'll know the southern accent is much different from the northern accent. But if you are just starting to speak German, you won't be able to tell the difference. This DVD was a nice ...

MGM (Video & DVD), 2005

Your days of plenty are numbered.
Great movie, weird but great. I do not want to spoil the movie, so watch it if you like independent movies. Kind of like the dreamers but with out the dream. They hate capitalism but they have a point.

From Refugee to Enemy Alien
Some Jews in order to escape from Hitler's persecution and genocide in the late 1930's fled to parched Kenya in Africa where they found the life primitive and faced new kinds of hostility. This movie zeroes in on a family from Breslau. A mother and her daughter take flight to Kenya to join the husband who is a tenant farmer struggling to eke out a living. Regina, the daughter, accepts the blacks ...

Good Bye, Lenin!101 reviews
Daniel Brühl, Katrin Saß

Sony Pictures, 2004

German Gem
"Goodbye Lenin" is an excellent film. Director Wolfgang Becher keeps the action fluid as one scene sparks the next. The French Academy of Cinema named it the Best Film from the European Union. Daniel Bruhl is the star who plays the son Alex. He first came to my attention in Love in Thoughts and was in The Edukators. He has also played in "Ladies in Lavender" with Maggie Smith & Judy ...

The Grey Wolves
German War Files

Arts Magic, 2007

This "War Archive" set of exclusive programs brings the most comprehensive collection of Germany's U-Boat warfare strategies probably ever compiled as a definitive series. The U-Boat success in the North Atlantic almost brought Britain to it's knees with it's Merchant Navy shipping losses bringing essential raw materials and commodities to continue the war and bring succour to its people! New footage helps us understand the on-going battle ...

The Good German68 reviews
Jack Thompson, John Roeder

Warner Home Video, 2007

A fundamental War Noir!
Since the days of Hitchcock's Topaz we had not had the chance to enjoy an original proposal around those unsaid and minuscule sins of war that are absent of the great headlines of the History. "The good German" is a splendid and potent Noir film that focuses exactly the day before the Potsdam conference. An American General (Clooney) is sent to Germany in 1945 after having performing as ...

German Horror Classics

Kino Video, 2002

German silent horror masterpieces in definitive prints
When it comes to horror films, I am far off the beaten path and in another world. I like my horror subtle and moody and intelligent, not the modern slasher and splatter variety. Four of my all-time favorite horror films are the German Horror Classics silents in an elegant (and expensive--$70) boxed set from Kino Video-THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI (1919), THE GOLEM (1920), NOSFERATU (1922), and ...
