Airplane! (Don't Call Me Shirley! Edition)276 reviews
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Frank Ashmore

Paramount, 2005

Airplane! DVD
Such a classic! If you like slapstick, physical humor that makes fun of a whole genre, you can't be without this film. It redefined Leslie Nielsen's career and essential birthed the genre of mockery film-making. It's rather adult but once my son was 17 I just had to share it. It's a bit dated (it helps to have lived through the 70's to get some of th jokes) but it's still a riot.

The Crucible157 reviews
Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder

20th Century Fox, 2004

"Because it's my name and I cannot have another . . ."
If you can watch this film and not go through every emotion you own, then you need to check yourself for a pulse. Of course, I'm being a bit silly with my opening to this review, but the reality is that this is a film that will touch you on every imaginable level if you can get past the era in which the story takes place and the hysteria of that time period. Rehashing the plot is a waste at ...

The Lost Boys241 reviews
Jason Patric, Corey Haim

Warner Home Video, 1998

Lost Boys hi-def is outstanding
Being a huge fan of the original (DVD), I couldn't wait to get my hands on the blu-ray release... and I wasn't disappointed. Some of the close up or darker scenes show a little graininess, but overall the movie is gorgeous looking. And the audio soundtrack (which fans of the movie will appreciate) has received the sounds tweak that blu-ray movies are becoming accustomed to - it sounds ...

Mission Impossible - The Fourth TV Season22 reviews
Peter Graves, Leonard Nimoy

CBS Paramount Domestic Television, 2008

Mission Imp Seas IV
As with the other 3 seasons, this DVD set arrived in perfect condition and played every episode with out a glitch. One thing I wish -- a commentary on a few of the episodes, I realize it has been nearly 40 years, but most of the crew is still alive. Unlike Hogan's Heroes, where only Helga and LeBeau are able to discuss their memories of making the show. Even without, it is a great series to watch ...

The Winds of War96 reviews
Robert Mitchum, Ali MacGraw

A tremendous mini-series
This is a wonderfully engrossing mini-series. I know there are some complaints about the ages of the actors but the romance is very captivating. Great performances all around. Highly recommended.

The Closer - The Complete Third Season41 reviews
Kyra Sedgwick

Warner Home Video, 2008

EXCELLENT
This show grows on you and will instantly become one of your favorites. This season is the best by far. The cast is amazing but of course the show is carried by the excellent performance of Kyra Sedgwick. Wow. To see Brenda lee Johnson working over a suspect to get a confession using her skill, creativity and intelligence is television at its best. This is the glue that holds the show ...

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall35 reviews
Tara Fitzgerald, Cathy Murphy

BBC Warner, 2008

Addictive and Delightful
I thoroughly enjoyed and can highly recommend this film to anyone who likes BBC period films. Let me preface by saying that this is not Jane Austen but Anne Bronte so it does not contain the usual whimsical characters bantering back and forth with witty repartee. This film is dark and somber and very chilling, however, the stellar cast and the storyline will draw you in and keep you enthralled ...

I Spit On Your Grave (Millennium Edition)242 reviews
Camille Keaton, Eron Tabor

ELITE ENTERTAINMENT, 2004

I Spit on Your Grave
It's difficult to compliment or be positive in any way about Meir Zarchi's controversial film, because even though it does come down on the side of the female victim, her ordeal is so distressing and brutal that one feels unclean for choosing to sit down and be a willing observer to it. Most people will be aware that this film is a rape/revenge scenario and probably will be aware that it has ...

Stalag 17 (Special Collector's Edition)93 reviews
William Holden, Don Taylor

Paramount, 2006

Stalag 17 (Special Collector's Edition)
"Did they beat you?" asked the Red Cross Man. "I was playing Pinochle," Sefton replied. "It's a rough game." ESSENTIAL MOVIE!!! Stalag 17 stars William Holden & is directed by the great Billy Wilder (nominated for Best Director), who also produced & co-wrote the script. Nominated for three Academy Awards & winner of one, Stalag 17 tells the gripping story of a P.O.W. camp during late WWII. ...

Robert Graves (II), Josef von Sternberg

Image Entertainment, 2000

The best historical mini-series I have ever seen
Without a doubt, for an in-depth fictional portrait of another era, this mini-series more or less sets the standard. The acting is uniformly excellent, but the depth of character, placed in context without cheap TV-style simplification, has not yet been equalled in my viewing. I will certainly watch it with my kids and discuss the details for hours and hours. As with all historical fiction, ...

Mark Miller, Donovan Scott

Starz / Anchor Bay, 2006

Great for families!
This is a movie that is quality in its moral and values. Quality in the recording is not there, but it was an 80's movie. Definately worth showing your family. Funny and adventurous.

Alfie40 reviews
Michael Caine, Shelley Winters

Paramount, 2001

Charming Misanthrope
It took me a number of years to finally catch up with "Alfie" and, boy, did I have a misconception about the film. I thought Alfie was a free-spirited dandy who loves and leaves the ladies. Little did I know that he's a self-loathing misogynist. It's a brilliant device to have Alfie address the audience. Alfie may think he's pleading his case but instead he digs a deeper hole for himself. ...

The Skull22 reviews

Legend Films, 2008

A great Amicus film
* Dr terror's house of horror, I monster, And now the screaming starts, The House that dripped blood, etc. All this films and many more from Amicus are little gems from the british golden age of horror. It's such a pleasure now to have The Skull with, for Hammer fans, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Nigel Green (Countess Dracula), Patrick Magee (Demons of the mind), Michael Gough (Dracula), ...

A Room with a View (Two-Disc Special Edition)179 reviews
Maggie Smith, Helena Bonham Carter

BBC Warner, 2004

Bonham-Carter is a Show Stopper!
A Room with a View was only Bonham-Carter's second film, made when she was nineteen. To watch her in it, one would imagine her to be a much more experienced actress. Her performance strikes just the right balance of humor and drama and combined with clever dialogue, a dramatic, passionate plot, gorgeous scenery, and a Puccini-driven score, makes for an award-worthy film. Don't think for a ...
