Glory of the Bolshoi / Vladimir Vasiliev, Galina Ulanova, Irek Mukhamedov, more1 review
Bolshoi Ballet

Kultur Video, 2005

Bravo Bolshoi! Russian Genius at its Most Powerful
This DVD has a number of precious moments that make it a great bargain of memorable treasures. I only paid about $7 for it brand new - just look under the 'used' listings and you'll find new, budget copies. There are some selections that are so superb I've been compelled to watch them over and over. Among these are Moszkowski Waltz, Ribbon Dance, and Shuraleh. While the selections aren't in ...

The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky, Peter Wright, Irek Mukhamedov1 review
Irek Mukhamedov, Miyako Yoshida

Kultur Video, 2008

Well done.
I enjoyed this version of 'The Nutcracker' very much. The costumes and scenery and stage mechanics were very well thought out and a joy to see. The choreography was also a little different from most of the other Nutcracker DVD's I own. I particularly liked the battle between the toy soldiers and the mice. Also the 'Waltz of the Flowers' was more varied and interesting than most other versions ...

Khatchaturian - Spartacus / Irek Mukhamedov, Natalya Bessmertnova, Maria Bylova, Yuri Grigorovich, Bolshoi ...5 reviews
Natalya Bessmertnova, The Bolshoi Ballet

Spartacus Marches On -- Again!
Well, Irek Mukhamedov has, with this, two Spartacus dvds out. They are both marvelously done. Here, his leading lady is Natalya Bessmertnova as Phrygia(in the other it was Semenyaka). Here, Crassus is played by Mikhail Gobovich(Vetrov in the other), and Aegina is played by the awesome Maria Bylova in both versions. Irek dances with enormous energy and mastery of technique. He has a unique ...

Ballet
Beautiful dancing, superb artists. BUT for those of us who love ballet but do not know it as professionals, subtitles describing, explaining the action could enhance our appreciation just as subtitles in opera have opened the world of opera to the multitudes.

Russian Ballet Highlights / Bolshoi, Kirov, Mukhamedov, Besmertnova, Mezentseva1 review
Irek Mukhamedov

Kultur Video, 2007

russian ballet
Excellent historical footage. Excellent camera work allowing ballet afficianados the chance to see 1980s stars at close range. Also interesting for Western audiences unfamiliar with Russian repertoire not normally seen in the West such as "Spring Waters" - although the performance here is not as good as these dancers normally produced. On the other hand - an excellent example of Michaelchenko's ...

Gala Tribute to Tchaikovsky / Kiri Te Kanawa, Placido Domingo, Irek Mukhamedov, Darcey Bussell, Royal Opera ...1 review
Darcey Bussell, Placido Domingo

KULTUR VIDEO, 2008

Entertaining concert with some odd program choices-
Since this 1993 concert recording is only now being released in the US & Canada, there must have been copyright/contract problems for one or more of the artists involved. To mark the disparity in length of career, singers Te Kanawa, Domingo, Hvorostovsky & others are still performing (infrequently for the semi-retired Te Kanawa), while the Royal Ballet dancers featured have either retired and/or ...

Prokofiev - Ivan the Terrible / Mukhamedov, Bessmertnova, Taranda, Zhuraitis, Bolshoi Ballet3 reviews
Irek Mukhamedov, Natalya Bessmertnova

Arthaus Musik, 2005

Not terrible - great!
A really powerful production. If you don't care for Prokofiev's music in general you might still like this. A powerful story of a powerful ruler and his descent into cruelty and madness, reflected in the music becoming disjointed towards the end. Superb choreography and dancing. Unlike the video tape of the Bolshoi production of this ballet, well photographed.

Awesome Choreography and Dancing
I took my grand-daughter to see the San Jose Ballet do The Nutcracker, and was reminded of how much I liked it. I used to have the old Kirov version on tape, and I loved it, but it's gone, so I bought this Bolshoi version. I love it! I also bought the Baryshnikov version, and have to say that he's a great dancer, but definitely an inferior choreographer. This version is vastly superior (I gave ...

Kultur Video, 2002

A dramatic Victorian art
Other reviewers know much more about ballet than I do, but want to say how much I enjoy this work. First of all the faces of the dancers are incredibly suitable, sensual, decadent, nobility decayed. Especially Rudolf's younger and older mistresses, whose sultry looks and broad painted mouths are perfect. Irek Mukhamedov is a brilliant Prince Rudolf, brooding, superior, forceful, fatally flawed. ...

Bolshoi Ballet in the Park - Divertissements / Irek Mukhamedov, Nina Ananiashvili, Ludmila Semenyaka1 review
Nina Ananiashvili, Natalya Bessmertnova

Kultur Video, 2005

Bolshoi Ballet
Historical footage of 1980s stars appearing in a Gala in London. Well worth having as an example of classical bolshoi at its best. People rave about today's technique but seeing these dancers 20 years on, today's dancers can only envy the ability of these dancers to marry art AND technique!

To the Limit - WMVHD disk
I wanted to test my 1080p HDTV. Unless you have a Blue-ray, the only way to view a full HD on a 1080p TV is with a computer. This WMVHD disk plays great eventhough I only used a VGA connection (my laptop does not have a DVI connection). Resolutions and details are so life like, you have to run it to believe it. I would like to get commercial movies in this format.

Arthaus Musik, 2004

Romeo & Juliet
Of a half-dozen Bolshoi performances from the 1980's that I've seen on DVD so far, I give this one the most points in all categories. You can't get better than Bessmertnova & Mukhamedov working as a team, with Mikhail Sharkov and Aleskandr Vetrov in large supporting roles. The chemistry across the entire cast, as well as the artistry, is superb. It also has some wonderfully inventive ...

Tdk DVD Video, 2006

Makarova's 1980 version of La Bayadere as staged for the Royal Ballet in 1989
This masterpiece of 19th century ballet was originally staged for the Tsar's Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia by the great Balletmaster and choreographer Marius Petipa, premiering on January 23, 1877, having been created for the benefit of the great Prima Ballerina Ekaterina Vazem. Petipa presented his last definitive revival of the work in 1900 (which was notated in the Stepanov method ...
