fine exposé---even if the company in the film is fictional
Fast Food Nation is an excellent film about the very real and highly disturbing flaws that exist in a meat packing plant that provides the beef for Mickey's, a fictional fast food chain that doesn't exactly have its act together. Not only do we see how American lives are affected by this mess, we also see how desperate and sometimes frustrated, angry young people and illegal immigrants are drawn ...

excellent documentary
This is an excellent documentary. Kevin Cosner is great and the history of the Native American people is well presented. I loved the CG images of what they think the villages and ruins looked like when they were in use. A must see documentary if you love Native Americans.

BUY THIS MOVIE
This is not a goofball subject. Air guitar is one of the unspoken truths associated with American culture since the early stages of rock. Most of the people you see at one point in time indulged themselves in the apparitional past time. This movie comes at a time when wielding the symbolic guitar is now approaching reality. I was struck early on by the feeling of magical metal tempo ...

Alien Nation still rocks!
Alien Nation was an awesome movie and an even better television show. I couldn't believe it when they cancelled it for no apparent reason at all other than Fox never wants people watching the channel think too much. It's the only explanation I can come up with for why they continually cancel great shows like Alien Nation, Firefly, Brimstone, Vengence Unlimited, and on and on. This tv movie ...

Picked up from the Discount bin
I picked up this movie from a discount bin because it had a picture of Christina Richie on it. She has always intrigued me. I was stunned to find a movie of substance and deep emotional material. Late the other night, I was tired, but not enough to sleep, so I popped Prozac Nation into my DVD player and watched. I wondered, why didn't I know more about this movie which had such talented actors ...

Great History...not for very young children
I enjoyed the Gospel focused presentation of the history of our nation, but one section regarding the trial of a soldier for homosexuality is inappropriate for younger children. Also, later in the movie there are some clips of violence against a church by homosexual activists covered by news reports that would be too strong from young children. Lastly, open displays of affection by homosexuals ...

Birth of a Nation-the birth of cinema
This film will be of great use in teaching the evolution and development of cinema in my Media Studies classes. D.W.Griffith's pioneering techniques were used in Peter Jackson's "Forgotten Silver" mockmentary on the birth of film in New Zealand. The two films will be useful as examples of film history.

Forget what know about the VNV Nation studio albums
If you know the studio albums of VNV Nation, never saw them live and have not seen the DVD yet... you will be in for a big surprise. The VNV Nation you knew are dead, long live VNV Nation, the very different VNV Nation. The sound is rougher and yes, the beats are harder (what excited me as an old school raver from the early 90's) and Ronan's voice does also not sound that pretty anymore. What ...

Small Town Michigan
Several years ago ESPN ran of commercials touting the most unusual sports mascot names. The Nimrods of Watersmeet Michigan came in third. This series is an offshoot of the quirky commercial, and showcases the high school basketball team primarily, and the townspeople secondarily. It deals with anytown topics such as discrimination and teenage pregnancy, as well as local topics like hunting and ...

Eye Opening expose on Reparative Therapy
This documentary interviews the former ex-gays that started one of the "repartive therapy" movements to cure gays of being homosexual. It includes interviews with those who believe in being able to cure gays as well as Rev. Mel White (founder of Soulforce). Rev. White's testimony is intriguing as he experienced efforts to become an ex-gay. As a PFLAG chapter president, and a member of the GLBT ...

This move was an excellent surprise!
Since I'm hooked on the Harry Potter movie stream, getting a chance to see another magical world was too hard to resist. The movie contains a bit of spoofing, double edged humor, and some very catchy moments. Watching, I got the vibe of watching the first BATMAN movie. Hogfather is not what you expect, and it is a bit dark. If you liked the "The Lord of the Rings" movies, you will definitely get ...

I can watch this one over and over again.. Its really well made and Dennis Quaid is a little Hottie in it, I think its prob his best movie.. Its a movie you can watch anytime.

Birth of A Nation: a devastating commentary on the KKK
Birth of a Nation is director D.W. Griffith's powerful but violently controversial masterwork depicting the post-U.S. Civil War experiences of two families, the Stonehams of Pennsylvania and the Camerons of Virginia. The Stonehams (fictional replacements for the very real Radical Republican Congressman Thaddeus Stephens and his family) revel in the North's victory and the imposition of ...

An astonishing film
This is one of the most important films ever made about tribal nomadic life, and the rigors of the filmmaking process make it all the more astonishing. The film does practice a bit of romanticism that was completely unnecessary. It pretends that the Bakhtiari tribe are making their migration as a one-time desperate bid for survival. In fact the Bakhtiari make this 250 km. journey twice every ...
