AD Vision, 2008

The female version of the Bourne Identity
The female version of the Bourne Identity. I was ready to give this DVD release 1 star. The whole point of anime DVD box set re-releases is to make it more affordable. Instead its the same price as the original release. What point or purpose does that serve? Anyways overall this is a great series & the best part is the musicical score. If you have the original box set theres no reason 2 ge ...

Classic Film Noir, Vol. 3 - 10 Movie Pack5 reviews
Joan Fontaine, Fred MacMurray

St. Clair Vision, 2007

Great Bargain
I previously bought Volume 1 and 2, and was pleased with both. While there are some duds in all three, there is 13+ hours of content. A great cross-section of film noir for a great price.

GREAT collection of FILM NOIR for AWESOME PRICE
I saw this DVD set in a Best Buy a few months ago. It was only six or seven dollars, so I bought it. I sat down and watched a couple of the films and they were awesome. I haven't finished watching the whole set but of the 4-5 films I have watched, it was totally worth every penny. D.O.A. and Detour are my favorites so far... the only one I really didn't like was The Scar. I guess I just couldn't ...

"You're not a detective, you're a slot machine. You'd slit your own throat for six bits plus tax."
From Warner Home Video comes the Film Noir Classic Collection, Volume 1, featuring, in no particular order, the following films... The Asphalt Jungle (1950), directed by John Huston and starring Sterling Hayden as a streetwise hooligan hired on as muscle for a big-time heist, caught in the middle when things go seriously sour. The picture, presented in fullscreen (1.33:1), looks very good, ...

Commentaries are great to have.
I love the picture quality of this great DVD set and also the commentaries on all of the movies. These are movies I can watch over and over again and never get tired of. Along with the commentaries they are a pretty good education in film noir.

Astounding anime
I must say I was quite impressed with this anime. Everything from music to story to characters, this is a definite masterpiece series. I learned about this anime after watching some previews from my Full Metal Panic DVDs. I figured this one looked good and I decided to give it a try. Since it's only Vol.1, it's difficult to put the whole thing in words. Mystery is the theme of this anime. So ...

Lesser known, but still a good set
Genre is often hard to define. Even something as simple as the Western has its difficulties. Sure, The Searchers or Once Upon a Time in the West are Westerns, but what about Brokeback Mountain, which has the right setting, or Little House on the Prairie, which has both the setting and the standard time period? If the Western is hard to really set in stone, how much harder is it to define Film ...

Anime does not get any better. . . .
As other reviewers have indicated, "Noir" is the fascinating tale of two star-crossed female assassins linked by a tragic past and struggling to make sense of that history along with present-day surroundings. What gives "Noir" its pungency is the core of feeling that develops between the two nihilists, who slowly discover that they are but pawns in a game controlled by a ruthless syndicate. It ...

Simply The Best
I would consider this a must have for any serious anime fan. The storytelling rivals, and actually surpasses, most other anime I've seen. The soundtrack is outstanding and character and plot development, combined with the other elements, is handled with an expert touch. This volume confronts some of the deeper issues only hinted at earlier in the series. Here we learn some of the deepest secrets ...

A great collection of noir films with commentary
Nobody else has actually run through each of the films and given a brief description. I do that plus I provide a rating as given by a popular movie database. Call Northside 777, (1948) 7.4/10 - Stars James Stewart as a reporter investigating a 10 year old murder conviction. Laura, (1944) 8/10 - Dana Andrews is a cop in love with the portrait of a murdered woman. Panic in the Streets, (1950) ...

Noir is quite an unusual anime series
Kill or be Killed. Assassination is not an easy job even if it can be done with a single shot. In Episode 6 - Lost Kitten, to Mireille, killing an old man is an easy job. Indeed, later in this episode, Mireille found out that the job could be done even without a single shot. However, Kirika who is more skillful than Mireille, this job hurts, and Lost Kitten is the only episode without any gun ...

Almost as good as Volume 1
The first set of the Film Noir Classic Collection was chock full of great movies, so I was naturally looking forward to the second set. Volume 2, happily, is also a good collection, not quite at the par of the first set but still with five decent-to-great movies. And if they play a little faster and looser with the definition of film noir in this set, that doesn't deprive the collection of its ...

ADV Films, 2003

Up, up, and away
If you thought Noir's pace in the first two volumes was slow (and let's face it, even fans of the series acknowledge this), you DON'T want to miss this volume, because it's where the series really takes off. The 'assassination case of the week' pattern set up in the first episodes takes an unexpected turn when Kirika and Mireille try to do a job only to find someone else has beaten them to it. ...

Noir

Adv Films, 2003

"The two rails don't always end together"
Four the previous four volimes (thru episode 16) the story has revolved around the waif-like Kirika and Mirielle a professional assassin of unquestioned skill and beauty. Mirielle's story was definitely the real focus, if for no other reason than Kirika's past was a blank slate. As their adventures progressed, they ran afoul of Les Soldats - an ancient criminal organization. Apparently this ...

Excellent Package of Obscure Film Noir
Since I wasn't around when any of these films were current and because they are derided by many as "B" films and thus sank into obscurity, I had neither seen nor heard of any of these films when I bought the Forgotten Noir Collector's Set. As luck would have it, this set turned out to be money well spent. Though most of these films will never be considered classics, each of them is enjoyable in ...
