The Muppet Movie - Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition126 reviews
Edgar Bergen, Milton Berle

Walt Disney Home Entertainment, 2005

Still Funny after all these years
I first saw this movie in the theaters as a teenager, I took my little brothers and sister to see it and it was so good we stayed in the theater for a second showing. My friends and I that watched it when it arrived were all laughing and enjoyed the movie immensly. Something this good never goes out of style.

20th Century Fox, 2004

NOT SINCE I HAD A ROOT CANAL. . .
Not since I had to have a root canal a few years ago have I been filled with such a sense of DREAD while watching this very fine film! Though it is fictionalized - it is based on the famous Salem Witch Trials - The acting, costumes, and settings transport you back in time, (and believe me - no one in their right mind would want to stay there.) You know what is going to happen because of ...

Driving Miss Daisy (Special Edition)104 reviews
Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy

Warner Home Video, 2003

Wonderful DVD
This is a wonderful movie. Mr. Morgan Freeman is wonderful in nearly every movie I've ever seen him in. He's a great actor. Ms Jessica Tandy is the same. Together Mr. Freeman and Ms Tandy are superb in Driving Miss Daisy. I love the charming southern accents and the lovely backgrounds. The house used in this movie is beautiful. I enjoyed this movie and am wearing it out from watching it so ...

A Man for All Seasons (Special Edition)200 reviews
Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller

Sony Pictures, 2007

Do not rent this movie, OWN it.
This Academy Award winning movie is a miracle. Fred Zinnemann's cinematic treatment of the play by Robert Bolt has a quality of luminous economy. The casting is amazing. Every member of the cast is just right, from Paul Scofield as Sir Thomas More and Dame Wendy Hiller as Lady Alice all the way down to those cast as the Thames river boatmen, the messengers, the jailers at the Tower and the big ...

High School Musical (Encore Edition)529 reviews
Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens

Buena Vista Home Entertainment / Disney, 2006

The extras in the Remix version are worth paying more
High School Musical is one of the Disney productions you don't have high expectations for. How good can something made for cable be? But it surprises in a big way. This is a movie about teens trying to find their own identities while feeling the pressure to conform to their own social groups. There's clean romance, humor, and the songs are surprisingly good. It does what every good musical ...

Amazing.
There are not nearly enough video recorded broadway shows. This is one of the best available. Entertaining but not without some depth.

Glengarry Glen Ross273 reviews
Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon

Lions Gate, 2002

predators in twilight
It's a David Mamet movie: ENOUGH SAID. Ok, I'll say a couple more things as if you didn't already know them. But if you don't know about this movie -- just see it is the point. GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS is an adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by the brilliant playwright-screenwriter David Mamet. Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey are all in it. They ...

Child's Play (Chucky's 20th Birthday Edition)183 reviews
Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon

MGM (Video & DVD), 2008

It's Chucky's 20th Birthday, and it's CHILD'S PLAY
In the annals of horror cinema and television, there aren't many creatures that are scarier than a doll or puppet with a mind of its own. The evil ventriloquist's dummy in DEAD OF NIGHT (1945), the malevolent Talky Tina in the classic TWILIGHT ZONE episode "Living Doll" (1963), the demonic Zuni fetish doll in the classic made-for-TV movie TRILOGY OF TERROR (1975), and the vengeful creations of ...

MGM (Video & DVD), 2001

Smartly Played Star Turns and Agatha Christie's Plot Twists Elevate Wilder's Witty Courtroom Drama
A labyrinth of deception is expected in an Agatha Christie mystery, and those unfamiliar with Billy Wilder's 1957 adaptation of the venerable writer's classic courtroom drama are in for a treat. Even if you already know how it all ends, there are still joys to be had from the star-studded cast and the master filmmaker's craftsmanship. Along with fellow screenwriters Larry Marcus and Harry ...

The Lion in Winter192 reviews
Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn

MGM (Video & DVD), 2001

The Lion in Winter
This is one of the best movies made! As close to Shakespeare as you can get in modern times. The dialogue is incredible, especially in the interaction of Hepburn and O'Toole. They also seem to be having such a good time with it.The whole cast couldn't have been chosen more perfectly. The tension between the brothers as they back stab at the machinations of their parents is palatable. For lovers of ...

I am a huge Hepburn fan, she has such a way when you are watching her you forget....everything else around you! the films I do own breakfast at tiffany's roman holiday, sabrina, funny face, One that is vastly different is The nun's story... she is quite deglamorized in that one! she truly was a talented beauty of her time AND YES, my fair lady made me laugh!!!

To Catch a Thief (Special Collector's Edition)158 reviews
John Alderson, Georgette Anys

Paramount, 2007

Really Great Alfred Hitchcock!
This is a light Hitchcock movie, probably not one of his greatest, but pretty close! The film does not focus on murder or mayhem or even tragedy. It is all about stealing jewels! If you thought that jewel thieves were interesting, this is your movie. If not, here the movie grows on you and you won't care about it being about jewel thieves. The acting is superlative and funny. It is not made ...

The Importance of Being Earnest153 reviews
Rupert Everett, Colin Firth

Miramax, 2002

Hilarious Fun
This video arrived in mint condition and far sooner than I had expected. As far as the story goes - it is simply very funny and very well acted. Colin Firth and the rest of the cast are the best! There are nuances that one would miss on the first viewing of this film. On a second and third viewing, I am still finding more things to laugh at. For instance, after Jack and Algy have ...

Henry V157 reviews
Brian Blessed, Richard Briers

MGM (Video & DVD), 2000

An enduring Masterpiece by a genius director and actor
It is difficult to sum up the power of a genius such as Kenneth Branagh. One thing that he accomplishes is that he speaks the immortal lines of Shakespeare with such gentleness and clarity that we Americans can understand him, and even young people, or people not accustomed to Shakespeare can respond wonderfully to his films. In addition, he is an actor of limitless talent and unforgettable ...

Unforgiven [HD DVD]269 reviews
Beverley Elliott, Frances Fisher

Warner Home Video, 2006

Bleak, unsparing, jarring, and brilliant...
When I first saw this film, I have to admit I thought it was good, but not great. Further viewings (including a recent one) have made me changed my mind and hang my head in shame. This is one of the greatest Westerns ever made, and one of Eastwood's crowning achievements as a filmmaker and as an actor. The film is uncommonly dark, even for an Eastwood film. It starts off with a brutal ...
