Brutal as Brooklyn Winter
"The French Connection," (1971) opens: we quickly see Brooklyn, New York, a few days before Christmas. It's brutal: we see a sidewalk Santa shivering at his Salvation Army bucket; a man freezing his touchas off as he works a hot dog cart. Suddenly we realize they're cops surveilling a dive of a bar, as they tear their costumes off and rush inside. So begins a nonstop action thriller, one of ...

The Last of the Great Frontier Lawmen
Bill Tilghman was the last of the old frontier lawmen still working as a peace officer in the 1920's. At a time when Bat Masterson was a sportswriter for a New York newspaper and Wyatt Earp was a movie consultant in Hollywood, Tilghman was working as a special agent for the Governor of Oklahoma. This story picks up as he is talked into leaving that post to tackle the taming of Cromwell, ...

So Awesome, I'd Like Another Please
This movie delivers everything you would expect from the Rambo series, a full out guys movie. The story is surprisingly edge-of-your-seat storyline with great special effects with Stallone looking as great as the character as he ever has. Believe me, he is awesome! If you are a fan of the Rambo series, then there is no disappoinment to be found in this movie. It has some very detailed scenes that ...

5 stars for Robert Downey, Jr.
Really, if RDJ wasn't in this, I wouldn't at all be interested in seeing again, in spite of the beautiful scenery. After all, there are other movies with beautiful scenery. I saw this years ago and slightly remembered it being cute and enjoyable but it didn't make a strong enough impression on me to try to own it or see it again. However, this is post-Iron Man. I really didn't have a clue who ...

Very brave, how a wife riske her life, to save her, and her daughter's Sally Field, once again plays a great part. I reccomend this movie to any Sally Field fan.

Brilliant
Very nice interpretation of the story of Christ's life. The blue eyes of actor Robert Powell is bright, dense and expresses both compassion and suffering borne by the Passion that contributes to the brightness of this beautiful film. "Jesus of Nazareth" has converted one of my fellow class mate. I recommend it with that of "The Passion of Christ" by Mel Gibson.

Blast from the Past!
I bought this for sheer fun, not looking for an Oscar winner and thats what I got. With one exception (late 60's) these all take place in the 70's and with that you get the great music, outfits and jargon that was popular in these "Grindhouse" flics. What also is great is seeing household names like Jay North & John Savage before his "Deer Hunter" fame. Being a teen in the 70's, It was a great ...

A great sequel. Even funnier than the 1st one. I'm hoping to see a Bad Boys 3 in the future with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as the main focus.

A VIBRANT FILM VERSION OF '60's BROADWAY HIPPIE HIT
My first introduction to "Hair" was the classic 1968 Broadway Cast Recording. Much later, I saw the 1979 film version on Showtime and loved it!! Years rolled by, and I saw an excellent stage production at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre (twice) and added "Hair: The London Cast Recording" to my collection. I felt the time was right to view the film version again. With eleven years between the ...

After more than sixty years Gilda is still scorching her way across Buenos Aires....
In discussions about classic cinema "Gilda" is a movie that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Casablanca (Two-Disc Special Edition). "Gilda" has a darker plot and the characters are not as noble, but story, cast, costumes, and music combine to create screen magic. Think of "Gilda" as a riveting Anti-Casablanca. Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford) is an American drifter who has somehow ...

Simply the best...
This is a true story of a 55 year old Spanish man who is a bedridden quadriplegic. Ramon Sampedro, the former ship mechanic, was paralyzed from the neck down after a swimming mishap. After being bedridden for more than 30 years, he is determined to end his life and "die with dignity." His brother, sister-in-law, nephew and father care for him. Ramon struggles in being a burden and being ...

Strong enough to stand on its own.
Is Deep Blue Sea a Jaws rip off? I would have to say no. I think it puts an interesting enough spin on things to make it fresh. Granted the acting is kind of corny, but folks, seriously. If you're looking for drama go somewhere else. One of the best popcorn movies out there, yes the sharks look phony but who cares. I watched this again a few weeks ago and I wasn't expecting to like it again ...

All the bibical movies from the 50's are fun. This one is worth viewing just to see Yul Brynner with hair. Also, George Sanders is always a great presence on the big screen. Pop the popcorn and enjoy!

a heartbreaking and haunting look at Argentina's dark legacy.....
I first saw THE OFFICIAL STORY in one of the Spanish courses I took at the University of Washington. My teacher was from Argentina and the film definitely spoke to her in a distinctive way, since she was a product of that nation and knew, firsthand, the goings on of the government with "Los Desaparecidos" (The Disappeared Ones). It was a fleet of intellectuals, old people, young people, men and ...

Singing in the Rainforest
Care for the environment, the ozone hole, illegal immigration, safe sex, drunk driving, a villain from Texas with a drawl..."The Forbidden Dance" is a cheesy movie that's surprisingly relevant. Of course,in the spirit of "Xanadu","The Forbidden Dance" is one of those "so bad it's great" movies, and makes one wonder why it hasn't been adapted for Broadway. Yet. I was laughing within the movie's ...

Wonderful Classic
This movie is in the best tradition of the romantic adventure. Heston and Parker sparkle together, and are a perfect team. Their very clashes have a wonderful chemistry, and with both stars in their prime, you couldn't ask for a more pleasing image to watch. The plot itself is classic, with enough twists to keep it interesting. I've loved this movie since I was a little girl- I've probably ...

in this viewer's eyes, ali is the greatest sports figure of our time. as i watched this powerful documentary, other sports heroes of mine -- michael jordan, lance armstrong -- faded away in comparison to the athletic skill, courage, wisdom, presence and sheer humanity of ali. focused on ali's fight against foreman in zaire, this documentary is about that and much more. it captures ali at his ...
