En la Puta Vida (Tricky Life)4 reviews
Mariana Santángelo, Silvestre

Venevision, 2004

Excellent Film About A Little Known Crime Syndicate
EN LA PUTA VIDA is a very well made, polished, intelligent film from Uruguay that begins as what seems to be a comedy and develops into a provocative drama - much the way events in life mimic such changes. Director and co-writer Beatriz Flores Silva knows her way around tough subject matter and is able to bring out sterling performances by a very fine cast. Elisa (the very beautiful and ...

Clash of the Titans166 reviews
Ursula Andress, Claire Bloom

Warner Home Video, 2004

I'd love to see a remake of this movie.
I saw this the first time when I was a kid. Amazing still after all these years. The special effects were pretty good for the time. The story kicks butt. A must see for those into action/adventure/fantasy. Medussa should get her own movie. She rocks. Recommended!

44 Minutes20 reviews
Michael Madsen, Ron Livingston

20th Century Fox, 2003

Fantastic Film
Being a Deputy Sheriff and in our SWAT Team, I appreciate this film a lot. The way the actors portray Police Officers is authentic enough to make this a fantastic film. This was a made for TV film, but if you have the means to purchase this film, you should. It certainly is not a Lifetime Movie of the week!

The Night Porter (Criterion Collection Spine #59)52 reviews
Dirk Bogarde, Charlotte Rampling

Criterion, 2000

Examing evil, embracing cruelty
Examining the very essence of evil, grappling with the demons attached to memory. The Night Porter is a sordid tale of a concentration camp survivor coming face to face with her devastating past--her ex-torturer/lover. The lurid, graphic images simmer and boil over in her mind, scalding the fragments of her sexual psyche. This story locks you in, you become trapped and pressurized with such ...

Mi Vida Loca
Interesting story. I enjoyed seeing this story from the young women's point of view; seeing what they had to go through. Great film.

Hysterical
The first time I saw this movie was the day I came home from the hospital after having my oldest child. I laughed so hard I was afraid I was going to bust my stitches. LOL I love it, every time I watch I still find it hysterical. This is the third copy we have bought...toddlers can destroy a DVD no matter how "indestructible" the industry says they are. I plan to keep this one under lock and ...

National Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2: College @ Sea9 reviews
Gable Carr, Patrick Cavanaugh

Lions Gate, 2006

Better than I was expecting
I did not expect much out of this movie when I saw it. I was not a big fan of Dorm Daze 1 but I decided to give this a try. Just like many other small budget films it had a cheasy story line but they made the best out of it. The movie had great comedic scenes and plenty of awkward moments. The movie is similar to other college movies in that there are sexy women, screw ups and stoners. The main ...

Gia (Unrated Edition)289 reviews
Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Mitchell

Hbo Home Video, 2004

Realistic portrayal of America's first Supermodel
This movie is not for the faint-hearted. No happy endings here. Just alot of edgy, powerful acting. It is the story of a young girl from Philadelphia who makes it big as a model in NYC and the viewer gets to see her evey step of teh way. Angelina Joile is fabulous in her portrayal of Gia Carangi-a supermodel from the late 1970s-early 1980s era-whose rise to the top of the modeling world is ...

Velocity / Thinkfilm, 2006

Powerful!
A riveting, beautifully filmed and scored-musically (by Ennio Morricone), Hungarian movie about survival and death in German concentration camps during World War II. It is from a novel and screenplay by Imre Kertész, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2002 "for writing that upholds the fragile experience of the individual against the barbaric arbitrariness of history." It depicts in ...

The Man in the White Suit24 reviews
Alec Guinness, Joan Greenwood

Starz / Anchor Bay, 2002

What if "saving the environment" meant losing your job?
Civilization should thrive on progress! But when a scientist in a textile mill produces a white suit made from a fabric that will never wear out and never get dirty, society is suddenly not so sure that one particular progress is of benefit. Actually, it's more of a threat to both labor and management. What is most interesting about The Man in the White Suit is that characters on both sides ...

La Vida Sigue Igual3 reviews
Jean Harrington, Julio Iglesias

Grupo Nuevo Imagen, 2007

Based on Julio Iglesias' youth real life
Great movie because of the music that made Julio famous. After being a socket player and a terrible accident that put him on a wheel chair with no hope on recovery, we can see in the movie his gradual recuperation, his life changing from an sportman to a singer, a love story, the music from "Yo canto" CD that includes songs like "La vida sigue igual", "Chiquilla", "Tenia una guitarra", "Yo ...

La Vida Que Te Espera2 reviews
Juan Diego, Luis Tosar

Lions Gate, 2005

'What is unsaid is undone': A Country Story
Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón co-authored with Ángeles González Sinde and directed this little tale of life isolated in the Valle de Paz of the Northern Spanish province of Cantabria. The people who live here, herding cattle, farming, and selling milk, are set apart from the outside world - sort of a modern day throw back in time. Families ('pasiegos') carry the farm tradition through generations, ...

Nostalghia36 reviews
Oleg Yankovsky, Erland Josephson

Fox Lorber, 1998

One of the most beautiful films ever committed to celluloid...
This is Tarkovsky's most underrated film. It is also his most beautiful, with some of the greatest cinemtography ever committed to celluloid (Giuesppe Lanci was the cinematographer). The film concerns itself with a Russian coming to Italy to research on a Russian composer who died there. As others have pointed out, the word "Nostalghia" is the Italian pronuciation, and the film is about ...

Vidas Secas1 review
Átila Iório, Maria Ribeiro

New Yorker Video, 2006

Vidas Secas
Even after all this time, this is a harrowing film of suffering brought on by greed. The north-east of Brazil hasn't changed much. Buy this film and find out about Brazil's arid and poor interior. Graciliano Ramos's book is brought to life.

Sony Pictures, 2001

Salma at her best! I want to marry Salma Hayek, por favor.

A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe3 reviews
Rik Battaglia, Mario Brega

Televista, 2007

Seen it
I liked this as much as My Name is Nobody even though its way less arty. Especially funny was the part near the beginning when Hill gets to town and is dumped out of the coach into the dust with his saddle, but he just lays there in the street with the carts and horses going by until he finishes his nap.
