Itzhak Perlman: Beethoven/Brahms Violin Concertos11 reviews
Beethoven, Brahms

EMI Classics, 2005

maybe the best "modern" video of these works
It's hard to beat this DVD - Two of the best pieces of music ever written (Beethoven and Brahms violin concertos) One of the great soloists alive today, and the Berlin Philharmonic with a talented conductor with great insight into the music (Barenboim). Excellent production, sound and video - A few strange intonation problems in the Brahms still don't prevent me from giving this one 5 stars.

Disc plays fine, the review below is misleading.
I bought several titles by this company and wanted to add this recording to my collection. After reading review below I contacted the label owner via Blu ray forum about compatibility. Just buy this titles directly from Amazon to be sure you got updated version. But even if you got an older copy they will replace it free of charge. this is the e-mail address in my comment below.

Just what I was looking for
I wanted something to add mood to my home and this DVD does just that. The visuals are very soothing. If you like kaleidoscopes, you'll like this. I have a Phillips Ambilight TV so the colors glow onto the wall. Sometimes I have the music on low but usually I turn the TV volume all the way down.

The ABCs of Violin for the Absolute Beginner - DVD34 reviews
Janice Tucker Rhoda

Carl Fischer/Eko Productions, 2006

Yey, for the violin
great to see a beginning violin video. If you are interested in violin this is a great introduction. Makes all the difference to see the examples. Of course eventually you should get with a live teacher but this is a great introduction.

The Red Violin290 reviews
Carlo Cecchi, Jean-Luc Bideau

Lions Gate, 2003

The Red Violin - DVD
It's an intriguing story about the journey of a violin starting with the master artisan who crafted it and why it is red in color. The story takes you along on the paths taken and the people who come to play this extraordinary instrument and culminates in modern times where the violin is being auctioned off in New York. Samuel Jackson plays the role of an expert on identifying the authenticity ...

Beethoven Choral fantasy and Triple Concerto
A wonderful treat to see these three great musicians playing together! They are so intense and involved in the music, a true inspiration to us all! Outstanding work by Daniel Barenboim to be able to conduct and play - he is truly one of the greatest pianists of our time!

2008 Meridian Collection DVD
This review is for those who have already seen The Red Violin, loved it, and are now wondering whether the 2008 Meridian Collection DVD is worth the extra cost over the bare bones 2003 Lions Gate DVD. My short answer is a resounding yes. The commentary track with co-writer/director François Girard and co-writer Don McKellar is informative and entertaining. The give and take between the two ...

New York City Ballet, George Balanchine

Nonesuch, 2004

a dream come true
PBS: Great Performances > Dance In America > Choreography by Balanchine >: Parts 1 and 2 of 4 (1977) I saw some of this series on TV back in 1978. I was awe-striken. I was a twenty-year fan of Stravinsky's music already and impressed by the composer's high opinion of this dance master (Mr. B). Seeing it for myself (being unable to go to NYC and actually attend) was totally thrilling and ...

The Violin9 reviews
Angel Tavira Maldonado, Gerardo Taracena

Film Movement, 2008

Not a movie but a true film.
[Originally a comment to a previous review.] What this film portrays is the ruthlessness of profit-driven policy, and the struggle to maintain some semblance of dignity and cultural history. This is well summarized by the tale about Gods of creation, told by the grandfather to his inquisitive grandchild. Done in black and white, relatively little dialogue and masterful cinematography, the film ...

Violin Lessons - AMP - Beginner Violin Lessons on DVD, 100% Satisfaction Guarantee4 reviews, 2008

WOW!!! The PERFECT way the learn violin!
Trust me, if you want to learn violin, get this DVD series! To be honest, I had my doubts, because I spent time and money on useless books and DVDs (like ABC's of violin) and learned nothing. But after I researched Mrs. Seidel violin teaching methods and visited her website, videoviolinlessons.com (check it out, it's great!), I felt comfortable enough to try her DVD series. I noticed the ...

Herbert Von Karajan - His Legacy for Home Video: Ludwig Van Beethoven - Violin Concerto13 reviews
Beethoven, Karajan

Sony, 1999

I thought Heaven was open.
I played my new DVD-copy in as soon as I got it. After a few minutes of listening, I though Heaven was open and the flood-gate had been demolished. I have never heard anything like that and it moved me so deep. I feel that my whole being has been transformed to the next unknown dimension. Even though I have listened Beethoven's Violin Concerto since 1981; that was 24 years ago. It is averaged ...

Juilliard Review
I have taught many of the Worlds finest Violinists, of whom personally knows Mrs. Seidel, and for that reason I decided to learn about Mrs. Seidel's DVD lessons and book. Beethoven - Complete Violin Sonatas (Anne-Sophie Mutter)9 reviews
Anne-Sophie Mutter, Lambert Orkis

Deutsche Grammophon, 2002

Appealing Enough, But Could be Better Though
All things considered these DVDs not bad at all. The sound is excellent, so is the picture. Mutter's sound is mellow and beautiful and her technique is marvelous. The photography is good, whether it is angle of view or the violinist's dresses. But the effect of the many lines on her face is quite something-- at least giving us an impression that as though she was in great agony. To be fair, the ...

Mozart Violin Sonatas - Gil Shaham, Orli Shaham [Region 0]6 reviews
W. A. Mozart, Palais Daun-Kinsky

Euroarts, 2006

Transparent Mozart sound
The violin sound is very transparent and clean. The piano and violin are played by a sibling pair and it is very well matched. The piano key touch timing is nice. Pianist is very cute. This gave me very fresh inpression compared with Clara Haskil and Arther Grumiaux. The sound is very nice.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - God Is in the House19 reviews
Nick Cave

Mute U.S., 2003

Someday he'll come out ... God Is In the House
Perhaps the greatest example of a true showman. Nick Cave stomps around stage pointing and screaming at the audience one minute, then gently caressing the mic the next. He's a charismatic cross between an early 1950's crooner and a mid-1970's minister - somehow he makes it all accessible and brilliant. For those into masochistic entertainment, please apply here. It's lyrically brutal music, but ...

Introduction to Violin DVD4 reviews
Jim Tolles

Cassette and Video Learning Systems, 2003

Truly Great Beginner Material
This is the perfect DVD for someone who has never played the Violin or fiddle before. It teaches everything from holding the violin, to using the bow, to learning how to play your first songs. I found that after a month I was ready to move on to classical songs. It truly was a great and cheap way to learn.

Carl Fischer/Blink Music, 2008

Outstanding tool for violin practice
This new intermediate level is very useful in helping my students to be motivated to practice violin. I've been teaching violin to students for many years but more recently have been using the ABCs of Violin beginner DVD with my students as reinforcement with excellent results. This new ABCs intermediate DVD is showing my students how to change a string as well as do bow hold strengthening ...

Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto & Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition / Ormandy, Perlman, Philadelphia Orchestra ...2 reviews
Tchaikovsky, Itzhak Perlman

Euroarts, 2006

It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
I came close to writing a one-word review: Wow! But considering how verbose I can be, I wasn't able to hold myself to that. In his latter years it was fashionable in some circles to deride the talents of Eugene Ormandy. And in recent years it has been equally fashionable to gloss over the abilities of Itzhak Perlman. Neither view is tenable, but let's face it, that's how fashion goes: sniping ...
