Farewell to Alabasta!
The war in Alabasta has reached its climax in the capital city of Alubarna as five separate factions clash (the Royal Guards led by King Cobra, the Rebel Army led by Kohza, the Marines led by Tashigi, the Baroque Works led by Crocodile, and, of course, the Straw Hat Pirates). Three of Crocodile's Officer Agents have been defeated by the Straw Hats but two of the most powerful Agents are ready to ...

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Season 4
This was very entertaining, although I preferred the grittier Cold War type of story lines in the earlier shows, particularly Season 1. What I would like to know, is when Season 4 Volume 2 is going to be released? Hopefully before my lifetime is over, are you listening to us 20th Century Fox???

Very enjoyable
This must have been a two part mini series. We started the movie, got a long ways in, and it said to be continued. The second part is also on this DVD. I think it is about 3 hour long total on the 1 DVD disk. The story is fine, and the filming is good. Over all an excelent choice to sit back an enjoy a long pleasent relaxing evening.

five stars, with two warnings.
I really enjoyed the first season of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and will be purchasing the rest of the seasons soon. I like the acting, the action, the plots, and especially the whole cold war take on science used to advance the good guys and stop the bad guys. I didn't watch this show much as a kid, maybe a few episodes, which I don't really remember too well. Watching this show now ...

My Favorite Season of Voyage
Usually the first season of any show is its best. Although I enjoyed season 1, season 2 was my favorite season of Voyage. There are several reasons for this. Season 1 was fairly serious and filmed in black and white. Season 2 was the first season filmed in color and like so many other series that had their 1st seasons in black and white, (Voyage, Lost in Space, Wild Wild West, U.N.C.L.E., ...

special effects masterpiece
What a treat to have this fabulous example of pre-computerized special effects on DVD. Our grainy taped-off-the-air VHS version was much loved. This DVD sparkles. With apologies to the fine cast, the effects are the stars here. (Plus, it's a great sneaky way to teach anatomy to visual learners.)

Many Mini-Adventures
After their hard fight to win back the kingdom of Alabasta from Crocodile and the Baroque Works, the Straw Hat Pirates have earned a well deserved rest. Apparently Eichiro Oda, the creator of the One Piece manga, needed a rest after drawing the Alabasta arc as what we have here is 13 episodes of anime-only filler. Not that these are terrible episodes, but those who were looking for the earth ...

Great True Story Movie
This movie has stuck with me since I first saw it on HBO back in '96 and I am so happy to now own it on dvd. This is one I'll be sharing with everyone I know. Such a sad story but one that needed to be told. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you rooting for Omar Epp's character to somehow escape his brother and the other seven stowaway's fate. Very tragic but it culminates to ...

So bad it's good.
I really enjoyed Kenneth Sohl's three star review of season three, titled "The Downhill Slide". However, I think that, while Mr. Sohl did an excellent job of pointing out some of the awful episodes and recycled plots, he missed out on a couple of things that actually put season three over the top, and which transformed it from just plain bad, to so bad it's good. For example, the recurrence ...

You are missing the point!
Chris, you are missing the point. These movies were never cinematic masterpieces. But for their time, they were more fun than a barrel of monkeys on any Saturday afternoon at the local movie theater matinee'. Ray Harryhausen brought a unique talent to the art of monster movie making and any kid growing up in this era were facinated with all of his efforts. I loved them then and still get a kick ...

De Sica, Rosselini, Visconti, Fellini and Antonioni get the Scorsese treatment
There has never been any doubt about Martin Scorsese's power and skill as a filmmaker, so it is essential to acknowledge too that he was a film lover first and always. His documentary My Voyage to Italy is a four hour (or so) master class (I surely reiterate what has been written before) and love letter to the Italian cinema that shaped him and probably every filmmaker aware enough to enjoy and ...
