"Life without struggle is meaningless"
Nicolas Cage takes a break from all the awful big blockbuster action movies he does and chooses a role that reminds us why he won an Oscar in the first place (Remember his Oscar? It sure wasn't for "Next" or "Ghost Rider"!) In this smallish, low key movie, directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), Cage plays David Spritz, the titular Weatherman. David wears well tailored clothes, ...

One of the Best Dance Scene of all Times
I love this movie mostly for Cab Calloway and The Nicholas Brothers. The Nicholas Brothers created (what I think) is the best dance scene of all times. They make tap seem very easy, but most people do not realize the level of athleticism involved in getting those moves so fluid. Cab Calloway was always VERY entertaining with his band; you can't help but to tap your foot to the beat of his band ...

Fascinating Look At Some Serious A**holes
The Weather Underground is a well done documentary about the movement of the same name. It produces a somewhat sympathetic portrait of some really screwed up people who thought that terrorism was the way to justice. Probably a little too sympathetic; some other posters have noted the absence of several quotes by members of the group praising the Manson murders, for example. What is really ...

Gene Kelly proves he's the best, once again.
This movie features a roller skating dance number by Gene Kelly that is outstanding, and is one of my favorite numbers by Mr. Kelly! Costarring Cyd Charisse, Dan Daily, and Michael Kidd, the movie includes wonderful dance numbers by all four. Entertaining plot. If you are a dance/musical fan, you'll defintely want to add this to your collection.

Video Learning System 4: Water and Weather
I teach 6th grade science in a private Christian school and have found these videos quite useful. They are full of short 10-15 minute clips that are just long enough to get all the information out, but not so long that the kids are bored by the end. This company is also good at including various vocabulary words in the video and defining those words clearly. I highly recommend these videos.

not informative enough
this would be perfect for kindergarden or 1st graders. it doesn't give enough background and has too much unrelated info injected about AD history. the only plus is that it was cheap.

Rumba Mama Revelation
No need to repeat what others have said, but perhaps my personal anecdote will resonate with some WR fans. I was always crazy for the "Rumba Mama" Acuna / Badrena track on the "Heavy Weather" album, and its genuine audience ambience. On vinyl, it was an outstanding opener for side 2. On CD and vinyl, the segue from "Rumba Mama" into "Palladium" has always been, for me, one of modern music's ...

Interesting but I'd want the Pardey's Storm Tactics DVD too
I found the information on sailing a boat in heavier winds worth seeing. Info on sail construction and choice was good. But when it came to actual handling of the boat when winds were over gale force it seems this video was a bit wishy washy. I think the Storm Tactics DVD the Pardeys put together is much more confidence building. I may be prejudiced because I attended some of their seminars and ...

Satire without cynicism
This is a great little film with lots of interesting (and hilarious and erotic) twists and turns. I'm always a little put off when I hear "satire", but this is satire that never desends into cynicism . The film makers obviously enjoyed making this. I also highly recommend the sequel, "Weather Woman Returns", which is just as good.

This movie has heart.
This movie has heart: it has the look and feel of inner-city or working class Philadelphia. The characters are rich in texture. As I watched the movie, I felt for all of them. They are the kind of people that I grew up with: uneducated, loud-mouthed, prone to emotional outbursts-but each has a secret tragedy underneath their blaring exterior. The acting is, in that regard, brilliant; from the ...

What a deal
Although this has been called a mixed bag by some, for the price, you just can't go wrong. Judy & Gene doing the "Portland Fancy" and Judy singing "Get Happy" from "Summer Stock"; Lena Horne singing numbers from "Show Boat," the musical she should have been in; Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire doing their only real on-screen duet in "Ziegfeld Follies" (they pretty much just walked through "That's ...

A superb, well-rounded and balanced coverage of a serious hot-button environmental issue.
Global Warming: What's Up With The Weather? is a DVD presentation of the television special by NOVA and Frontline dealing with questions raised about modern climate change. In an era when demand for fossil fuels is increasing daily, more man-made carbon dioxide emissions have been added to the atmosphere than ever before.
